Non supply service
I ordered multiple domains with 1&1 . Each domain was supposed to come with a web site builder. They promptly informed me that I could only have that facility for 1 web site, not the 7 I bought and that I would have to pay if I wanted to build more web sites. I wrote to them about this. They eventually admitted that I was right but refused to rectify the problem.
I would strongly suggest against using them

scam business
I tried purchasing a number of domains from 1&1/1and1.com . They took my credit card information and the site said the transaction went through and then nothing-- no response from this company. I called them a little later and the stupid, stupid girl on the other end of the line couldn't understand letters or spelling for anything. After about 15 minutes of spelling out one of the domain names, she finally got it right. She said that there's a 12-24 hour delay in getting domains registered. I've registered tons of domains with other companies, and it's always basically instant. I'll be going back to these other companies, but I wanted to try 1&1 after hearing about them and seeing ads all the time in Maximum PC magazine. So much for that.
Well, after about 20 hours I called them again and the people MUST be out of the country since they can't understand the English alphabet. They said my order was on hold by their security team, and I'd have to check with them after the weekend to get more information.
Overall so far, I've talked to 3 different people there and I get the feeling this company is 99% scam. I've talked with hosting and domain companies a lot, and I could tell almost right off that these people were shady and using canned, nonsensical answers that were having us go in circles. I was able to register my domains elsewhere before they got their paws on them thankfully, but people should know that this company is bad, bad news!!!

Cancellation maze - collections agency
So I bought two websites, one for me and one for my wife. After a year’s time I found I had no time to even create them let alone maintain them so I wanted to cancel. In good faith I went to the website and searched for the cancellation area, well hidden of course! As a matter of fact they have an entire website dedicated just to cancellations, which tips you off as to how complex this becomes... I submitted the cancellation, saw a cancellation email come into my inbox and moved on. Then I started getting these emails about unable to bill my card, so I think great because I don't want you to I cancelled! Next thing I know I get a letter from a collections agency! Yes, for a measly $29 they submit me to a collections agency for a package I thought I had cancelled!!! So of course I call them and explain my utter desertification with this and they just tell me "sorry, we sent you an email...". So come to find out there is this elaborate process of cancelling different portions of your package and if you don't get it right... well they will charge you, charge you late fees and submit you to a collections agency until you get it right! So ended up paying even more money now to the collections agency, which I had to do of course, then I have to go back to 1&1 to "properly" cancel my package, then being the generous and gracious company that they are, they will refund the un-used portion of my package. All that to say, SHOP SOMEWHERE ELSE! There are plenty of good companies out there who don't want to screw you over $29! Happy trails!

auto re-enrolls, then sends out bill to collection
1&1 internet- enrolled for two years. Then in 2010, they sent a bill to a collector for an automatice re-enroll, charging me for a domain renewal, and 1 year hosting, and elevated the rate from the first agreed upon charge.
I did not approve the auto enrollment, and they would not waive it.
After trying to pay the non desired charges, their collector charged us an additional $8.00 - because theyre collectors.

Account not cancelled
I had a domain with 1&1 which I cancelled with them. They did not cancell it and continued to charge me. Emailing the domain which I assumed had been cancelled and was no longer using, to advise me of the bills. They have now passed it on to a debt collection agency for £11. I have advised them I will not be paying this and expect to have the debt written off, also requesting it to be passed on to their Director of Customer Services / Compalints.
This is the most recent reply from them:
I know the previous response might not have been the response that you
were looking for. However, this is the response we need to give. This
is a situation where the account was left delinquent for some time and
that caused our automated system to pass this account to collections.
Despite these actions not grasping your attention, these were honest
efforts to contact you. As an internet company, email is our preferred
use of contact. Furthermore, when the account is further delinquent, we
suspend the service. We have give ample time and notice for this
account. There is nothing we can do at this point. I am sorry.
If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

This is the reply Ihave sent:
You still have not even tried to resolve this complaint. this is a
complaint with yourself which you need to deal with and judging by the
following web sites I am not alone with this problem.

This list goes on and on.
This seems to be a reoccuring issue you have with many which needs to
be resolved. The account was closed with you and not used. You then
continued to charge me, and as I was no longer using it, assuming it
had been closed, was not aware.
This is not acceptable by any means.
I have requested for this to be passed on to the Director of Customer
Services/Complaints (I assume this is the same in your company) and I
expect it to be.
I will start loggin this on the above websites, maybe then you will
take some appropriate action.

Rip Off of Fees
When our account expired they continue to charge. Then they charged a late fee and a collection fee when I informed them numerous times that I did want the accounts. I had them for a client for the previous year and they no longer wanted the account. THey only let you reserve account for a year in the first place. This is rediculous. $153.80 in charges re

Awful company
December of 2006 I created my first domain/Email address with 1and1 for myself and was advised by a 1and1 rep that I would have to create a first account/domain before I could create a second for my wife and would pay same price for the second domain/Email. I created the first domain/Email with the 1and1 rep and then waited a few days to set the second domain/Email.
About 1-2 days after creating the second domain/Email I saw that I was unable to use the Email feature that I had already paid for. I called 1and1 and was told that I would have to pay a now monthly charge to use the Email on the second domain/Email package that I purchased. At that point I advised the 1and1 rep to cancel the second domain/Email and filled out a special form to confirm the cancellation.
1 year later 1and1 charges my credit card for 2 domain/Email packages. I called 1and 1 and let them know they should only charge for 1 domain/Email because the 2nd was canceled. 1and 1 would not credit my credit card for their error so I put the charge in dispute with my credit card company. The credit card company reversed the charge after finding the charge an error. One year later I get an Email from 1and1 stating I now owe them for for a charge back on my credit card and that they were going to turn of my domain/Email if I dont pay them their fees because they wrongfully charged my credit card.
Just recently in 2009 I get an Email stating 1and1 is sending the balance to a collection agency on their behalf. I have called and Emailed in response but that has gone no where. I sent a letter to the 1and1 headquarters in the USA advising them I will be taking them to small claims court because they have not fixed their billing errors and sending this incident to a collection agency and potentially damaging my credit.

Treacherous Fine Print
1&1's billing policy is to hold credit card information on file. When payment is not made (for example, if the credit card on file expires), 1&1 will not stop service like most service companies but will continue service and contract a collection agency for collections. Customers must officially close their accounts to stop service. This is not the standard billing policy consumers expect. While their policies are disclosed in their Terms & Conditions, 1&1 is clearly using their "fine print" to extract extra fees from customers wishing to close their accounts.

Bad service
I have been with 1and1.com for a couple of years. I have purchased many domain names. They recently contacted me to advise their rates have gone up.
I told them I will be transferring to GoDaddy any domains I want to keep and letting any I no longer want, expire.
I also advised numerous times to STOP automatically renewing domain names and that I do not want my credit card charged not one more dime.
The day AFTER I transferred a domain name to GoDaddy, 1and1.com sent me an invoice for another year for that same domain.
I contacted them and talked to Damien Christopher, a supervisor in the Billing Dept. He was extremely rude, and he hung up on me.
I want to warn anyone thinking about doing business with 1 and 1 Internet to think twice before giving your credit card information over to them. They bill me monthly for charges I never authorized and I cannot get any cooperation in removing my credit card info.
