2008 Suzuki XL-7 Reviews

False repair information
Beginning in the beginning of December, I began to have odd noises coming from under the car whenever I made left hand turns, as well as hesitation coming from the engine between apx. 25-40 MPH. On 12/15/10, I brought the car to Gator Chrysler Suzuki to have it looked at, as it was still under factory warranty. I received a phone call from them later in the day asking for my maintenance records, which I did not have, as I have had a personal friend change my oil in an attempt to save money. I was told that because the engine may be malfunctioning due to a lack of oil, that I would need to authorize up to $400 in repairs out of my pocket to inspect the engine, because I didn't have any maintenance records to prove that I had the oil changed. I do understand that because my car maintenance wasn't performed by a licensed mechanic, that the warranty may be void. However, after waiting a few more days, I received a call saying that the dealership had tried to start my car, and when they did, it ran for approximately 3-4 seconds, and then the engine knocked and shut off, and would not restart. They told me they would inspect further. On 12/22/10, I was contacted by the dealership, and told that my engine had completely failed due to a lack of oil, and that the ONLY way to repair my car was to replace the engine, that Suzuki would NOT cover the repair, and that I would have to pay $8900 for the installation of the new engine. I told them to immediately stop all repairs, and that I would send a tow truck to have the vehicle towed to another mechanic for a second opinion. I asked if I could leave it at the dealership over the holiday weekend, and have a tow truck there the following week to move it to another mechanic. On 1/3/11, I paid apx. $265.00 to the dealership for them to take the top off of my engine to inspect it, as that is all that was done to my car when it was further inspected by the second mechanic. It was towed out of the dealership on 1/4/11, and taken to Classic Auto Salvage that same day. On 1/5/11, I was called by the Owner of Classic and told that he believes that someone was trying to scam me, because he didn't find any major engine damage, and that when he put the engine back together, it started right up. After replacing the removed engine parts, changing the oil, and cleaning the throttle body, my car runs as good as it did on the day I bought it. Those repairs cost me $370. I have now had it back for 5 days, and haven't had a single noise or issue, after being told by Gator Chrysler Suzuki that the ONLY way to fix my car was to replace the engine for $8900.
