Uninstallable Computer Game
I am a 62-yr-old disabled person; long-time computer user (started in the '60s). I saved my hard-earned cash to purchase the Borderlands game thru Best Buy (no problems with them). I received the game in the mail and tried to install it on my computer. My computer is a purpose-built high speed gaming computer, and as such, perfect for this type of game. The problem was (and still is) that the game locks up during installation. Normally this would not be a problem, as I am "computer-savvy" enough to fix most problems that arise. I installed, uninstalled, wiped out the directory, cleaned the registry, and re-installed ... all to no avail. I went to the web-site for the game to find help, and (as seems to be the new trend) their was no actual "help", only a forum where you ask your questions, and take your chances that some OTHER USER might have the answer. There were 3 or 4 "possible fixes" that were available from the game producers on the site, but the opening paragraph usually stated that "here is a work-around that works on some systems and may help you". One of the suggestions was to HIRE A COMPUTER PROFESSIONAL TO HELP RESOLVE THE PROBLEM! I scrolled thru the 32 PAGES of people having the same installation problems, tried everything they suggested, and finally tried their "Contact Us" button. Sent an email that pretty-much said what I said here and A WEEK LATER got a reply that was a CARBON COPY OF THE SUGGESTIONS IN THE FORUM. Tried everything AGAIN, and emailed them that there was no change, and it still hung-up early in the process. Now, I have sent over a dozen emails back and forth (some to Gearbox, and some to 2K Games) and STILL HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO PLAY THE GAME THAT I SAVED MY MONEY FOR. Last week-end I resent all the system diagnostics, log reports, Dx Diagnostics that they requested ... and now I'm still waiting!!! Whatever happened to professional integrity? I would be embarrassed to sell a product that I wouldn't stand behind. I'll never go out and spend $100 an hour or more to have someone else install my games ... especially since I've NEVER had another game that I couldn't install!
