Was billed $9.99 for something called infotextalert.com that was somehow subscribed.
Verizon Wireless says to text the word STOP to 38146 to unsubscribe. Am giving it a try.

Received unsolicited text messages very late in evening from 38146. Upon reading them I immediately realized it was a very bad scam and clearly criminal. First of all, I don't care what Brittany Spears does - giveaway number 1. Second, I don't pay for any texting service - giveaway 2. The instructions to remove or confirm service are gibberish - giveaway 3. Combined, I knew this was a very bad scam that hits people where they can least afford it, their wallets. You cannot successfully unsubscribe. If you get the message you are charged 9.99 per month. You must immediately call your carrier and report this as soon as you realize they have found your cellular number. The carrier should have the ability to unsubscribe you permanently. They can remove the pending charge but it may sneak back through so keep checking on it. Pray that these alleged criminals are somehow put out of business permanently. It is beyond upsetting that one may have to shut off all texting services because a few rotten apples spoiled the entire barrel. Make no mistake though, I will block all text messages if I see that the bad guys are 'winning'.
