Won't rebuild if unforseeable damage occurs
I was a customer of "Onnik's" in July 2006, was pleased with his work and gave referrals to others but when a water pipe broke and damaged only some cabinetry, I saw a different side of him. He came out for the estimate but when the time came to perform the work, he had excuses galore. The management of my condo, who was paying for the repairs called him with a question and Onnik fired off at him and slammed the phone down. At first, I could not believe it until he did the same to me. He agreed to work with the contractor doing the drywall repairs but complained that he didn't want to make trips to my home to pick up/deliver cabinet parts. In each case I offered to have someone else be the delivery person on his behalf. He complained that he "wasn't making any money off this job!" Ah, here's the real problem, he got greedy and didn't want to do the work for the amount he agreed to. So, how does he handle this? He abandons his commitment, keeping the other contracted work on hold while the main contractor tries to reach him for an explanation of why he didn't show. He avoids all calls and a week later when I called and he answered, he became indignant with me, his loyal customer! I gave him one more chance, as this was not the man who put my beautiful cabinets in only a few years ago. I wrote an email to him addressing the situation and asking for his response and defense in the slight chance some information regarding his attitude that was given to me was wrong. He chose not to respond. It was an unforeseen accident that damaged my cabinetry and I thought I could rely on him to come back and make it all better. Onnik decided that he wanted more money to do the job and felt that he could be manipulative in that case. I'm so disappointed in him and will no longer give him a good reference. No one expects that their cabinet remodel or any remodel will meet an ill fate early on. We all expect them to last maybe 20 years. It's sad to think that after only 3 years, with the contractor still in business, that he'd get dirty with his client because they were in need. There's no long term loyalty or trust with this business!
