Fifth Third Bank
17751 GUNN HWY
Tampa, Florida
United States
I went to this Fifth Third on the Friday before Mother's Day of this year. I asked the person I talked to, to open a new checking account for me. I explained that I currently keep my school funds in my savings account, but I would rather have them in a checking account so that I do not have to transfer funds if I have to pay for something for school. The associate I spoke to was in a big hurry to leave and see his mom, and passed the work on to the branch manager. The branch manager misunderstood and closed ALL of my accounts! I only found this out after I told him I wanted to make a deposit into my primary account. He was confused because at this point I only had one account (a combined account of my normal bank account and my money for school).
Because he screwed up, he had to open me a whole new checking account. My checks were no longer good, and I could no longer use my debit card. I withdrew some money to get me through the weekend.
A few days later I found that the account he had closed had over drafted because there were still items that were pending. I have over draft protection, so my credit card kicked in and put $50 into the account to cover the over draft. The branch manager noticed this, but didn't call me. Instead, he removed what was left of the $50 and closed the account again. So...the account over drafted again and another $50 was taken from my credit card. The manager did the same thing once again, and did not call me. I signed in online and discovered all of this for myself.
I went to the bank and complained and one of the guys that worked there told me he would get it all straightened out. He said he would get the fees and the charges to my credit card fixed, because it was their fault since I didn't want that account closed in the first place. He told me it would take a week.
4 weeks later, the problem still wasn't fixed. I called the bank and one of the tellers took down my name and phone number. She told me I would be called right back by the associate I spoke to before. He never called me back.
A few days after that, I called again and the teller remembered me. She couldn't understand why the associate didn't call me back because she relayed the message to him. She put him on the phone and he said that he contacted some department to fix it. I told him it still hadn't been fixed and I had expected a phone call back from him when I originally called. He did not say anything to that, instead, he told me to hold while he contacted someone else. When he came back on the line he told me it would take about a week to fix. At this point I was so unbelievably annoyed! I told him I would believe it when I see it.
Yesterday, I went to the bank to deposit my paycheck. The associate was servicing people in the drive thru. He asked me if I had seen my refund online. I told him I had not. "They opened your old checking account and put the $100 we owe you in there to put towards your credit card. Would you like me to transfer it to your credit card?" I told him yes.
I am so fed up with this company! Why did this take so long? If they could open up my original checking account, why didn't the manager just reopen it after he made the mistake? Why couldn't they apply the funds directly to my card? Why open up the old account to refund me? None of it makes any sense to me. If I didn't just buy new checks, I would leave this company.

I will try to keep this reasonably short but in so doing I will have to omit the numerous times they have stolen my own money that I earned in order to perform trivial little activities such as buying groceries, putting gas in the car, sending my college kids a small pittance whenever I can, and of course the standard bills that are perpetually due & also paying down credit cards as I will NEVER use one of those wretched demons sent strait from hell. I cannot bring myself to add up how much money they have stolen (& that is the nicest word I can use) from me since they swallowed up my beloved First Charter Bank it has to be a couple of thousand dollars. I never had the first problem with them & they were so nice and I still miss them terribly & wonder where 5th3rd has hidden their no doubt mutilated & tortured body & defiled body, as I cannot believe they treated First Charter any better than they treat all of special customers, whether we were unwittingly sucked into the portal which sent us from Eden of First Charter strait into the bowels of hell, or were lured into voluntarily descended into hell under the guise of having found a bank which cares so dearly for its customers...oh what 5th3rd does for our dreams...we have all learned the hard way that what they really do with our dreams is rip them up & squash them, while no dount their CEO, VP's, & board of directors smoke their cuban cigars as they sit at the oval table in the penthouse office curiously resembling Jaba the Hut.
Briefly (I promise), what they have regularly & so predictably done over these last 3 or 4 years is of course perform tricks of illusion that would send this new crop of young magicians back home in shame to practice their feats to the level as what 5th3rd can do. Every Friday am, sometime between just after midnight and 3:00am, I would double check my checking account online to be SURE my direct deposit paycheck had indeed been credited, and even though it was technically in the "pending" status, the amount stated in "available balance" would already have been credited. Finally!, Payday! My car is on fumes and the cats & dogs are on the last couple of morsels so on my way home from work I fill up the car and make my nominal purchase of food for my empty nest egg replacement babies. I also stop at the local garden/nursery and buy a couple of perennials and a cool black fountain grass for about $20 bucks. When I get home I go strait to the computer to make SURE those debits cleared after my auto deposit and everything's cool and it's Friday afternoon. All weekend the placement of banking transaction activity remains the same. Monday morning, which is so pleasant anyway, the order of activity on my account has mysteriously contorted & rearranged itself so that now the DEBITS on Friday are applied to my account BEFORE my autodeposit, always in order of largest to smallest in order to sooner kick in my old pal, OD Fee, $38 bucks a pop as many times as they can slap it on, and all I can do is smile and concede to the supreme cleverness of 5th3rd once again. My goodness, they surely have some imaginative leaders of the rape & pillage team, albeit they did have to sacrifice their souls for the privilege of experiencing what 5th3rd does for there OWN dreams.
And as I am sure all of my fellow lowly peasants already know, it matters not to the Stepford Staff at the branch that you have every shred of evidence printed out in order to point out to them how you were misled into believing your debits would not send you into the red & you were entertaining such silly little thoughts of paying your mortgage on time this month cause this week you finally didn't get screwed by 5th3rd...hurrayy!!
Not only are the branch drones clueless, brainwashed, and stripped bare of any critical thinking or logic skills, but also in order to better serve we very important customers they have also been awarded the gift of no decision-making power or ability, and like a parrot will regurgitate the line which they have been ordered to use at all times for all circumstances & customer "concerns"...c'mon, everybody together now, you know the words..."we have no control in what order the deposits & debits are posted to your account", always stated in such a way to ensure you will believe you have 3 heads on your shoulders as they sneer at you in the manner that Marie Antoinette surely stated her famous "then let them eat cake". Then they tell you what is truly the icing on said cake..."you'll have to go to the branch where you first opened your account"!! This inane closing remark to you, also translated as "we don't care what the truth is & there's nothing we can or will do for you so we're sending you off on the wild goose chase "where all us valued customers know there won't be any goose of any sort except the one they pop you in the rearend with on your way out" after you have parrotted your standard response of " I never signed up for your bank, I signed up with First Charter whom I miss very much because they really DID care", and "what if I had opened my account with you before I moved here from Savannah, would I need to just "run over to that branch" and talk to somebody there?" They don't like any of this, the nerve of the lowling to speak to us with such sarcasm that we don't even get, no less.
Needless to say as y'all already know, no one at the former First Charter branch has been annointed with decision making powers either, but at least the liquor store is nearby so it's not a total bust.
But I digress, sorry. My latest SNAFU with 5th3rd is truly the most bizarre yet. I had an unethical leach attach itself to my checking acct via the internet and they began autodrafting every 2 weeks from my account, sending me even further into financial dire straits though I did not think that possible. So when this happens twice I go into the branch (stop laughing y'all, I'm sure as heck not going to CALL them) for the purpose of closing my account as my last two paychecks have essentially been split between the chameleon autodraft creature and the 5th3rd sloth creature, at which time I also have them debit out (there's still a tiny pittance left for me) the fee (they are tireless with those fees) to stop payment on the autodraft just in case they try again. So the female humanoid behind the counter says "we can close your account but if any autodraft comes it wil reopen your account". So I say "but I'm paying you a stop payment on the possible autodraft attempt so that shouldn't even be an issue". I know, foolish, foolish thing to say, as her response back to me is EXACTLY what she has just said. So I say "how in the world do I close this account then?". She responds "well we can close this account and open another one for you". When I stopped laughing & realized how closely this situation is at best looking like eternal pergatory I say "so what you're saying is I have to keep this account with 5th3rd for the rest of my life!!??, that is crazy. I've closed plenty of checking accounts over the years;please just close my account", And yes, she responds for the 3rd time with the pre-programmed response. So I leave not knowing if I'm more angry than I am exasperated, and also am aware of the intense hatred I have for this bank and their attempts to take all my money for the rest of my life no matter where I live or what I do. So I enter the appropriate debits into what was briefly a decent paycheck, and write a check to myself for evey penney which remains in my account, then go through the drivethrough, obtain the cash amount on the check (with the same stepford cashier waiting on me at the drivethrough, though she was bizarrely cheery and greets me with "how are you today?". I think she could probably see that I was also quite cheery as well. So I leave thinking "okay, y'all won't close the m-effer, I'll do it myself, " praying with all my might that 5th3rd is out of my life forever, but NO, they have a tactic they havn't used on me before, and I have to admit it's quite brilliant. The autodraft sure enough returns to the scene of the crime. When its bumps in to the stop payment, it reverts to cell division and knocks on the door now in two different numerical forms, and just like saying the correct password @ the speakeasy door, is in like Flynn into my account once again. Of course this spawns the ressurection from the dead of my checking account, sends it to the red, thus freeing 5th3rd to slap the OD Fees. This happened 4 times!! Of course I no longer have direct deposit to 5th3rd for my paycheck, but the latest "care letter' from 5th3rd now states I owe them over $900! But I haven't gotten a letter from them in a week now, which is totally outside their character. So either I'm a writeoff(I wish) or the cops will be here any minute to arrest me. I know I am NOT going to pay any more money to them, as they surely wouldn't have allowed me to use my debit card if I had no money in my account, but they allow a blocksucking internet leach in without any qualms at all. Does this make ssense to anybody?
Yes I want to be part of a class-action suit & I also want 5th3rd to reap all the karma they've been blasting out at everyone. Let's takem down, or at least enjoy trying...Now THAT would certainly qualify as one of our collective "dreams" that we (and they!) so richly deserve.
And what kind of name is 5th3rd anyway?...wow, what an innovative, imaginative name they came up with when they were 5th bank eating up 3rd bank in Cincinnati, os was it 3rd bank consuming 5th bank? Evil little stoopies.

"Fifth Third" - sounds like an oxymoron.
