Subj: Elderly lady being treated badly by A 1 Medical Supply
I am an elderly female who has lived in my split level home for 25 years. I have become physically unable to use my stairs but do not want to leave my home. I decided to look into the possibility of using chair lifts. Seemed like an answer to my problem so I ordered two units from A 1 Medical Supply in Raleigh, NC. The company took care of the measuring and installing of these units. I have a door at the bottom of my lower level which everyone was aware of. The bottom lift is completely useless. There is no way I can get to the floor even with two people helping. The stairway is so narrow now, that my caregiver must crawl over the chair to get upstairs. The fire Dept. said they would have to AXE it down if I ever needed to vacate in case of emergency. I contacted A 1 Medical Supply several times by phone and email. I also contacted the manufacture in Missouri. I sent them several pictures showing them how the chair lift was not any help whatsoever, and how dangerous it was. Finally I got a response saying I had signed a release and they were sorry but they would not take the unit back. I did sign a release but only to allow the installer to get paid. I wrote on the release that I was not happy with these units.
The last email from A 1 Medical Supply informed me that I should stop calling and stop emailing and they will not take the unit back. I spent $6, 000 on these chairs. They were a medical necessity if I wanted to stay in my home. Please help me with this matter. Thank you kindly Dorothy C. Borden
