Awful experience
A Solid Gold Sound DJ/Video Services is a nationwide Internet DJ/Video company ran by John Kruer with home offices in Kentucky.
I contacted this company back in June to contract their services. At that time I PREPAID IN FULL the total due for the services I was to receive on my wedding day. The first incident that took me back was when I had called to inquire about their services and got a disconnected signal for the # listed for the Kansas City # on the Website.
I then called the 1-800 # and told the representative about this which he replied "I will have to look into that". They later took this # off the website. I also found out later that this company contracts local DJ's and had no local office. I then called a few weeks later to inquire about the free gifts offered on the website. I told the phone representative that I had never received the "Free Gifts"(money saving reports & countdown to wedding date clock)that was advertised on the website, at that time the representative laughed at me and told me he would look into it. I never heard anything else on that. Once I had my song list complete around 75 songs from the companies list and around 30 that I added. I faxed and emailed the list to their office. I then waited until 6 days prior to my wedding to call their office to ask when my DJ would be contacting me. I was told 7-10 days prior to my event. When I told the representative it was 6 days out she said "OH, well let me give
you his # so you can get ahold of him". I thought ok I will contact him instead of him calling me? I then called and spoke to the DJ who then told me he never received any info on my event from A Solid Gold Sound and he would have to call in and then get back to me. He did return the call later in the evening stating he had spoke with their office and after discussing it he was going to "pull me out of the fire" by doing my event, at that time I asked why was I "in the fire" to begin with? I was told that he was already booked for the day of my event but was going to cancel it, to do mine. I thought this strange considering I had PREPAID IN FULL MONTHS AGO. The DJ then asked me to send him my song list. I told him I had already sent it to their office twice and thought he could get it from them. He then went on to tell me how "unreliable" their office is and would prefer if I sent it direct. I told him I would, and arranged for a follow up call the next day. I called the Solid Gold Sound office the next morning to discuss how unhappy I was with the service so far and just wanted to get this done. I was told by their office that the DJ was a good DJ but was rather "full of himself" and he DID have the song list I had sent. I then called the DJ and he told me "no" he had not yet received it, and asked again if I would send it to him direct. I sent him the list and everything seemed to finally be headed in the right direction. I spoke with the DJ again the next day(3 days before the wedding) and arranged to bring the 8 or so songs he could not get, and told him if he needed anything else to let me know. This brings us to the wedding day. The DJ showed up on time to the event and the first thing we went over was where he would set up. After we got that cleared up he then asked about power, the owner of the establishment showed him where the power was located(about 30ft from the set up location). He then asked the owner for an extension cord! Even the owner was laughing and said "well the professional DJ's usually have an extension cord". Well the DJ had some sort of excuse for that. But the owner was nice enough to loan him one and he began to set up. Prior to the ceremony I asked the DJ if he had the ceremony music ready? He looked at me and said well no. I had discussed this with their office weeks earlier about him doing the ceremony music. And was told that's fine he would do it. That's why I paid for him to be there a half hour prior to my ceremony. Well regardless the DJ finished setting up, played a little easy listening music prior to my ceremony then got to relax playing no music for about 30 to 45 min during the ceremony. Once the ceremony was over and we came back to reception area the DJ then began to play some music. After about 20 min or so my new wife asked why he had yet to play one of our songs from the music we had selected. When I approached him and asked about this he told me "Well someone last week spilled a drink on my laptop so I'm using this backup laptop" I asked what this had to do with my songs and he said nothing, he would get some on for me. After the Wedding Toast and Bouquet & Garter tosses, we danced to our song (that I had to bring, that is available on I tunes). This was about 45 minutes of what I actually paid for. But soon after my wife again approached me and said she had heard this same song 3 times and had yet to hear a song from our play list! This was over half way through our event. When I went to the DJ to ask him why he was playing the same song he had played 3 times now he also had an excuse. He told me that someone from the event he had done prior had walked off with one of his patch cords and he was having to mix everything by hand? I asked again to just play some of our songs. After about another 20 min or so we finally got into our song list. Considering our event had been going on for hours I thought this to be completely unprofessional. Our song list finally made it into the play list with only about an hour remaining of music. After that I was more focused on attending to my guests and my new Bride. The DJ packed up and left exactly at his scheduled time. The next day when my wife and I discussed the entire day she said the only thing that she would have changed was the DJ. When I spoke with many friends and family they all said the same thing "Your wedding was beautiful but that DJ was awful" I agree with them.
I paid this company IN FULL AND IN ADVANCE for a what I was expecting to be a good job. It was most certainly not a good job.
Since my event I have contacted their office to ask for a some sort of refund all I have got back are rude defensive emails. The customer service was horrible from the beginning and the DJ was awful. The entire staff was unprofessional and rude.
I hope that anyone who is looking for a quality DJ stays clear of this company, after searching for complaints on this company(something I wish I would have done prior) I found many many complaints on them. The national BBB office gives this company an F rating which is the lowest possible.

Horrible Service, not what I paid for
Back in September 2008 I was shopping for a dj service for my wedding 4/4/09. I called this place and they were really nice and helpful and sent out a dvd to show how"great" their services were. They told me as well as on the contract 100% refund at anytime that I wanted to cancel no questions asked. I told them off the bat that I needed a bilingual dj and said no problem. The only time they called is when they would see if the balance was going to be paid. Everytime we spoke, I asked them again bilingual dj is coming, yes dont worry about it everything will be perfect. Well dj is contracted out throught their company and calls me the day before, guess what he is not bilingual! Called the company to complain and they did not care told them I will cancel and they said that was fine but that I would not recieve my money until 10 weeks later! they were not concerned whatso ever. to top that off at my wedding on Saturday, it went horrible, not dj's fault, the company gave him the wrong song list! nobody was dancing, , people were leaving because it sucked. Dj was trying so hard but it was too late, please do not go through this service for anything. Right now I am trying to see what I can do to get my money back.

Don't use them
John Kruer, owner of A Solid Gold Sound calls DJ's and Videographers in your area at the very last minute and tells them that the person who was supposed to DJ or shoot the video has cancelled last minute and they need help. They do this because they have no DJ's and Videographers of their own. They tell them they are in a jam and the wedding will be ruined if they don't find someone. They get these people to work the wedding last minute. In the end they don't pay the people they subcontracted unless they are taken to court and forced to do so. They will keep making excuse after excuse until they get court papers.
The DJ's are often unqualified and very unprepared for what they need to do at your wedding and the product you'll most likely get is extremely poor if a DJ shows up at all. If you are lucky enough to have a competent Videographer, he will not get paid and you'll not get your videos John Kruer will try to sound sincere and make on excuse and one promise after another as month after month passes. It's been six months and my wife and I have finally started the legal process in order to get our video. We have found literally hundreds of complaints and several television news stories about John Kruer and A Solid Gold Sound. All the complaints are the same and John uses the same MO with everyone. He sometimes forgets the lie he's told you last and uses it over and over. Don't believe anything he says. Everything is a lie. I PROMISE you you will go through hell if you use this company. You'll regret the day you ever dealt with them.

Bad service
I contracted "A Solid Gold Sound's" services to videotape my wedding on July 12, 2008. Everything went well on that day and the videographer was wonderful. Immediately after my honeymoon, I called the company and they told me that it would be ready in four to five weeks. Approximately 6 weeks after my wedding, I called "A Solid Gold Sound" and asked when my wedding video would be ready. They told me that the national average is 12 weeks but it usually never takes that long. Also, they told me that the computer system showed that my video was currently being edited. I felt that the 12 week time frame was extremely long but decided to be patient. At 10 weeks I still had not received a call from them so I called and they stated that my video was still being edited and it should only take them a couple more weeks (which would have been the 12 week mark). At 12 weeks I received a call from the contracted videographer that taped my wedding stating that he still had my video because "A Solid Gold Sound" had never paid him. I couldn't believe it since I had been told for 6 weeks that my tape was currently being edited. When I called the company to confront them about this matter, John, the President of the company, stated that the video was being edited until I brought it to his attention that they didn't even have my tape to edit. John then apologized and told me that my tape would immediately be edited and assured me that it would not take another month to get it to me. Also, John told me that he doesn't give out his last name. Now on October 8, 2008, the month mark that I was assured would never come, is a couple of days away. I talked to John today and my video still isn't ready. Today, October 28, marks the beginning of a patient customer standing up and saying enough is enough. This company is not professional at all which is evident through their consistent lies, inability to pay their contracted videographers, and nonchalant attitude about this situation.
I finally received the edited DVD of my wedding ceremony and reception 19 weeks after my event date and it was very disheartening to view the video in such poor quality. There were numerous errors throughout the video including sound echoing, screen jumping, etc. I contacted the company for the now countless time and requested that the errors be resubmitted to the editor, corrected, and returned to me expeditiously. After two weeks with no response, my lawyer contacted him. John told the lawyer his last name and promised to either fix the problem in 10-14 days or refund the money. Today, 12-18-08, John left a message on my phone and stated that he would not do either. John said that the video tape was beautiful and he was flabbergasted that I would want to sue him. I regret ever using this company and hope that this review will help you make a decision about which video company to use.

Bad service
This company does not pay it's contracted vendor's in a timely manner, if at all.
Vendor's beware! You will spend more time trying to collect your contracted fee than the actual time you will spend doing the event.
This company waits until the last moment (1 or 2 days before event) to hire a vendor (ie. DJ/Videographer) in the city/town close to the event without vetting them or checking references, asking any questions about light or sound equipment, or knowing if they even qualify to do the work, usually telling the vendor that someone backed out at the last minute or has personal issues to attend to and can't do the job, when in truth, the company uses this last minute technique to pressure vendor's into taking the job for low pay, hoping the vendor will feel sorry for the customer and not want to ruin their event, so they are basically scammed into taking the job for less than half of the money the company charges for the services.
Bride's Beware!! This company does not have quality DJ's or Videographers on the payroll! They look them up online or in the telephone directory just like you would do. Don't be fooled by the CHEAP price, remember you get what you pay for.
There are over 50 complaints to be found on the Better Business Bureau website regarding this company, use this URL to do a search to see for yourself: http://search.bbb.org/searchForm.aspx. Go to: www.ripoffreports.com and do a search for "A Solid Gold Sound" and you will find 49 unique complaints, there are also at least 10 complaints under their alternate business name "A Sensory Sound System".
This company wants you to believe that they have offices nationwide and are local to your area, when in fact, they are in Edgewood, KY where they possibly share an office with an Insurance Agent. They have several 800 numbers they use to do all of their business, which all link back to Kentucky, but mainly use email as a means to do their business.
There may be 5 to 6 employee's tops, mainly office help. No DJ's or Videographers.
This company has been reported to be taking months to deliver wedding video's to their customers/brides, if at all and have been the topic on several television news stations regarding this as well as poor quality video's. These brides have LOST their chance to have their special day recorded because of the VERY poor business practices of "A Solid Gold Sound" aka "A Sensory Sound System.

Videography
PLEASE DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND RUN FROM THIS COMPANY. THEY WILL OFFER YOU A GREAT DEAL, TAKE YOUR MONEY AND YOU WILL NOT REVEIVE THE SERVICES YOU PAID FOR. YOU WILL NEVER SEE YOUR WEDDING VIDEO IF THE VIDEOGRAPHER EVEN SHOWS UP. JOHN KRUER SHOULD BE IN JAIL. A SOLID GOLD SOUND IS A COMPLETRE SCAM. DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I MADE. DO YOUR RESEARCH ON THEM.
