Charged $475 for 30 minutes
I called them to replace a rusty hose between the wall and a toilet in my house. They told me on the phone that the charge will be $95 for a service fee plus whatever the job will cost. The tech came and it took him about 20 minutes to replace the hose and he also had to change the fosset (both in 20 minutes). Once he was done, he handed me a $475 bill. He said that the job (20 minutes) is $380 and there is the additional $95 service fee. I was outraged for both the price and for also not stating that to me upfront. It's not like he was surprised or ran into any issues. It was a simple 20 minute job!! After arguing on the phone with "his boss", they reduced it to $280. Still, the wanted to charge in excessof $1000 per hour and ended up charging me $280 for for a 20 minute job... If this is not a ripoff I don't know what is!

Scam
Called A1 Plumbing as my heater wasn't blowing warm air. Tech didn't show at all first day, waited over a cold weekend for the next guy on Monday, who was 3 hours late. After he got here, he ran the furnace through its paces and concluded it may be the thermostat. We went to the thermostat in the house. He looked at it and said something negative about the brand (digital, programmable). He 'wiggled' it a bit and went back out to the furnace. He again tested the furnace, this time bypassing the thermometer. It worked great. I sais, so it's the thermometer not working. He said yes and said he just happened to have a regular thermometer on his truck and would put it on for Five seventy five. I said five dollars and sevety five cents. He said, NO, FIVE HUNDRED SEVENTY FIVE DOLLARS. I said that was crazy for a thermometer, then he remembered some 'discounts' and it was down to three hundredsome odd dollars. PLEASE! I said that I can put on a new thermometer. He gave me dire warnings. BYE! After he left, I went to the thermometer, pulled it off of the wall and saw tha there were two AA batteries in the back. Why don't we try...How about that! Two fresh batteries (about $1.50) and my heat works great! Calls to the office were futile. Staff was rude, mean, and dared me to report them. Glad to oblige!
