AAMCO Transmission Reviews

overcharged
I went in for a main seal replacement which cost $600 + and when I drove the car home it was makin loud sounds when the auto transmission shifted gears. I was leaving town for two months so I called aamco and they said I could take it to a miami aamco and I did. they told me it would cost $4-500 to fix the broken motor mounts (which weren't broken until Iwas leaving aamco in new port richey). So i called Mel in NPR aamco and he said to bring it in and he would take care of it since the motor mounts weren't broken until they initially worked on the seal. Bottom line, Mel charged me $524 and scoffed at a discouint even though he knew that they had caused the problem to begin with. So aamco has me for $1100 and the car still isn't right. These people need to be looked at by Chris Hansen of MSNBC.

Bait and Switch
Called and was told that a repair of my transmission would be between 1500 - 1800 which included the 900.00 diagnostics. The price depended on if we wanted a 12, 24 or 36 month warranty. Made appointment for 8am Saturday. Was told that the diagnostics and repair would take 3 days. Contacted them on Tuesday morning and was told that they just started working on it. Called them in the afternoon and was told that the repair would cost 2100.00 and that was only the 12 month warranty. They know that once you have to pay them 900.00 you won't take it somewhere else and have to pay an additional 1500-1800 to do the repair. I feel this is a bait and switch deal. The only reason I went with them was because they are a nationwide company. You expect this type of shady deal from a back yard mechanic not a national company. I am just sick because the truck isn't worth 2100.00 and now I can't afford to take it somewhere else and I can't pay my mortgage because I have to pay them an additional 300.00 I had not budgeted for.

Beware of Quotes
On 10/4/2010 my 2003 Honda Odyssey was in the shop at a Honda dealership. I was told that it needed a new transmission and quoted a price of $4, 500. The van was not worth spending that amount of money so I called the Aamco located at 1904 East FM 1960 Bypass in Humble, TX. I spoke with Jay. He was friendly, courteous, and seemed to be familiar with the Odyssey transmissions. I told Jay the problem I was having and the diagnosis I had received from the Honda Dealership. I asked him what I was looking at in a worse case scenario for a complete rebuild and was told it would be around $2000.

On 10/5/2010 I picked my van up from the Honda dealership and drove it to Aamco. Jay was not there so I spoke with George when I dropped it off. George said that Jay had told him that I was coming in. George called me later in the day and said he needed to remove the transmission. It would cost $475 for diagnosis if I decided not to fix it. Since Jay had told me it would be around $2000 I gave George the authorization to disassemble the transmission. George called me back at about 4:30 and told me it would cost $3600 to rebuild my transmission. I asked George why it was so much more than Jay had told me and he said that it had a different transmission. Jay did not disclose to me that the Odyssey could have more than one transmission and that the price would be different. I told George to hold off and I would call him the next day.

On 10/6/2010 I called George and informed him that I was not happy and felt that I had been dealt with dishonestly. I stated that had I been told the correct cost I would not have allowed them to remove the transmission. George told me that if I picked the van up I owed $475 and the transmission would be disassembled in a box. He said he could do the rebuild for $3242 but could not go any lower than that. George stated that he couldn't discount the labor ($1543.82) and had to make at least 29% profit on the parts.

After doing some research I felt trapped. If I picked the van up I would have to pay $475, have it towed, and pay someone else to rebuild a transmission that they did not disassemble. I also investigated selling the van as-is but discovered that it was worth more with a bad transmission than with the transmission removed. I called George back and told him to go ahead and repair the van for $3242.

On 10/08/10 I picked the van up. George did give me the 3yr/36k mile warranty which I appreciate. However, I would not have done the repair had I known it would cost so much. I feel i was dealt with dishonestly by this Aamco and trapped into paying more once the transmission was removed and I had few other options.

NO DIAGNOSTICS DONE TO FIND TRUE PROBLEM
MY SON TOOK HIS 1996 DODGE AVENGER INTO THE AAMCO SHOP IN MCDONOUGH TO HAVE THEM DO A DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON HIS CAR TO FIND OUT WHY HIS CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY AND WOULD ONLY GO ABOUT 30 MPH. THEY SAID THEY DID DIAGNOSTICS ON THE CAR AND THEY NEEDED TO TEAR THE TRANSMISSION APART IN ORDER TO FIND OUT WHERE THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE. THEY CHARGED UP ALMOST $2500 TO TEAR DOWN AND REPAIR THE TRANSMISSION, ONLY TO HAVE THE CAR DO THE SAME THING IT WAS DOING BEFORE THEY DID THE WORK.

WE DON'T FEEL THAT THEY DID A PROPER DIAGNOSTIC ON THE CAR, AND RUSHED US IN TO ALL THESE REPAIRS. AFTER ALL WAS DONE, THEY SAID IT WAS THE TCM MODULE THAT WAS BAD, WHICH IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY WOULDN'T COVER IT. BUT THEY TOWED HIS CAR OVER TO AN ELECTRICAL SHOP TO HAVE THEM RUN TESTS ON IT. THEY SAID THE TCM MODULE WAS BAD (MY SON HAS REPLACED THIS PART 5 TIMES NOW).

IF YOU NEED MORE INFORMATION ON THIS, PLEASE CONTACT MY SON, ERIC RINEARSON. HE HAS THE ADDRESS OF THE REPAIR SHOP, AND ALL THE PAPERWORK ON THIS. I WAS THE ONE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS, AND WE BOTH FEEL THEY RIPPED US OFF. HIS PHONE NUMBER IS 770-634-2693.

I FEEL THAT AAMCO SHOULD REIMBURSE US FOR THESE REPAIRS, SINCE THEY REALLY WEREN'T NEEDED AND IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. AT THE VERY LEAST, AND I MEAN THE VERY LEAST, THEY SHOULD PAY TO HAVE THE TCM MODULE REPLACED.

PLEASE RESPOND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

THANK YOU

2001 Plymouth Neon
I had my car toed to them and had the radiator replaced and they couldn't get it started again after that and didn't know why. The toeing was supposed to be free because it was within the 15 miles radius, but it wasn't. They charged 60 for it and wouldn't take that off the bill. Then they try and fix the trans because it was leaking and left all sorts of mess in the trans afterwards. I took it there 12/18/08 and it took them till 12/23/08 to fix the car all the while with horrible communication skills. 9, 000 miles later my trans almost blew if I didn't catch it and take out all the substance that was left in it. I.E. gasket pieces cloggin the filter and metal shavings. By the way, the gasket for the filter was put on BACKWARDS!! That is the only reason it lasted so long though... is all I can figure and so... thanks for messing that up?!? All I had done was the radiator to be replaced and trans flush/filter/refill... all costed $500!!! Needless to say, these guys are a joke in accordance to professionalism and work ethics. DO NOT GO HERE

Rip Off
I will have to say that I learned a VERY VERY valuable lesson here! This location took me for $2500.00 and over a 15 month period, I have had to bring my vehicle back to this dirty so called transmission shop 5 times. This last time was for a torque converter that burned up due to the fact that they rebuilt my transmission the first time with a rebuilt torque converter that they swore up and down that if they were to install a new one, it would cost me thousands of dollars! LIE LIE LIE!!! A new one that is even modified out of the box is only $450 all day everywhere. It is a family run organization that has had its share of complaints as I found out thru the BBB and Google online reviews. The lesson learned here is to always go to the dealer!

Terrible company
We took our Honda CRV to their shop because the car would hesitate before shifting and then clunk when it finally did. AAMCO said we needed to rebuild it so they did. The car still had the same issue when they returned it. Two weeks later the whole transmission when out and stranded us. They rebuilt it again and the same hesitation problem was there. We kept taking it back and they would give us a runaround and not repair it.

The transmission went out again and we took it to another shop and had the transmission replaced with a used one. The new shop said the overdrive switch caused the hesitation and replaced it. The transmission probably never needed rebuilding. We tried to sue in small claims court but AAMCO got their attorneys to move it to a district court. We had to hire a lawyer and go to hearing and to court.

We lost since we signed AAMCO's agreement each time agreeing to their service terms. We ended up paying AAMCO for ruining our transmission and attorney fees. And then paid another shop to replace the transmission that AAMCO worked on twice. I would never recommend anyone go to AAMCO since they have inexperienced mechanics and don't stand behind their work.

Fraud and cheating
December 15, 2008 I drove my 2002 PT Cruiser to Aamco at 8 am to get a second opinion on fixing a leak in my Transmission. At approximately 4:30 p.m. I contacted Jim the service rep he stated at that time that a cell was leaking and all parts and labor would cost $800.00, and they would give me a 3 year warranty and it would take one day to fix. This was verbal and I did not get this in writing, but I gave him the ok over the phone to do the work.

December 16, 2008 after not hearing a word all day I called AMMCO and spoke to Jim at approximately 4 pm to find out how long it would take to finish my car. At that time I was informed by Jim that the Torque Converter needed to be replaced and that would cost an additional $1, 500.00 for a total of $2, 300.00. I told him no that was being ripped off and told him stop what ever they had done and I would come pick my car up. He told me I would have to pay them $800.00 for the labor that spent taking my transmission apart. I informed Jim at that time that is was very strange because I had taken my car to another transmission shop prior to AAMCO and they told me it was a broken Differential. I had wanted to get my vehicle fixed by a company that is nationwide. Had I know that AMMCO is just a bunch of crooks I would have had the first company fix my vehicle. I just wanted my car back and am really upset with AMMCO. They are the biggest rip-offs. They are refusing to give me my car back until I pay them $800.00 for doing nothing. I just wanted my car back, and take it to the first shop that I had look at it. If they tell me that it looks like someone broke the torque converter I am going to press charges against AMMCO, because the first shop never mentioned anything about a torque converter. I filed a complaint with the BBB, but they gave Aamco until January 1, 2009 to respond to the complaint.

On 12/22/08, I contacted the Aamco president Joseph Foster regarding getting my car back, and I told Mr. Foster what had transpired regarding Jim quoting me $800.00 for a cell rebuilt including parts and labor, then once the transmission plate was removed the price triple, so I had told Jim not to touch my car. Mr. Foster was unreasonable and started screaming at me. Stating I approved the work. I told him I had only approved the cell to be fix because that is what Jim told me I was wrong. Mr. Foster said once they got the transmission apart then they discovered the torgue converter was bad. I told him that I wanted my car back the way it is. Mr. Foster said the transmission is out of the car and will not be put back in until I pay them $800.00. I informed him at that time I will be contacting the Attorney General. Mr. Foster said go ahead neither the BBB, or the AG will do anything.

After 3 weeks and no results from the BBB my dad went ahead and went into the Northglenn Aamco shop to tell them 'you really deceived my daughter and have her over a barrel', but the owner convince my dad to rebuild the transmission, so on January 6, 2009 we picked my vehicle up and my dad pay Aamco $1, 900. for a 'so-called rebuilt transmission, with a one year warrenty'.

The within 5 minutes of driving the vehicle off the lot the car started shimmying and making a low pitched squealing noise. I took the car to two other shops (free of charge) and both told me that the upper and lower engine strut mounts are broken, but they could not prove that Aamco broke them, or that they were broken on purpose. Also the steerling is squealing, but I know that Aamco will claim they had nothing to do with anything.

I took the car back to Aamco today January 12, 2009 and was told by the personnel that they got my $1, 900.00 and to never bring my vehicle back to Aamco again (go figure - so called warrenty). What did I expect - 'THIEFS'.
