I'm not one of those complaining about not being able to make
my payments and them not working with me. We budgeted and KNEW we could make the payments, if we couldn't we wouldn't have done it. The main reason we decided to pay more for what we were getting was to BUILD credit. Payments are not the issue of my complaint...
My husband and I just got a new apt in early Oct. We decided we wanted to get new furniture, so we went and found some great deals and value city furniture and hanes, but when we applied, we didn't have enough credit. We were kind of discouraged, but then my husband found Aaron's and we went and checked it out. The furniture was far more expensive than what we looked at and the other stuff was better, but our options were limited and we figured it would still be a good way for us to build credit so we decided to do it anyways.
We went in, found a black leather loveseat and couch that we really liked and decided thats what we wanted to get, it was what we were looking for. ( we even got a rug and a mattress! but those aren't an issue). Well, we went over our contract, signed it and got an appt set up for delivery. When our furniture was delivered to us, we noticed that there was a large rip in the arm of the chair and that it was dirty. We realized we'd gotten the floor model from the store- it had the exact same rip which we'd noticed when we were in the store, but we thought we were getting new ones.Furthermore, they hadn't even bothered to wipe it down or ANYthing.. it was pretty disgusting to think about how dirty it was and how it looked.. that amazed me, as far as business practices go... Well, we were a little ticked that we weren't verbally notified that we were getting the floor model but our contract DID say we were paying for used merchandise, so we figured ok.. that's our fault, even though they didn't tell us- it's in our contract.( although I honestly can't believe they were charging THAT MUCH for used merchandise! it was outrageous). So we talked to them and were told BY a manager that he didn't know about the rip and he apologized- but let me tell you.. we noticed it as soon as we saw the couches, it was about an inch long, and a couple of centimeters open.. and its white stuff inside on a black couch.. it was very noticable- but he apologized, said he was unaware of the rip and said we could get new ones..for get this.. ONLY $20 more a month! What?! It was crazy. We were pretty upset that wasn't offered to us in the first place. We're confident they knew about the rip and no one would get them, so they just didn't specify which ones we were getting and didn't offer us to gt new ones, and were just trying to get rid of the floor set they had. I was pretty upset at that point. So we made the decision to get a new set and just pay the extra per month. We were told they were being ordered and set a new date for swap-out. Well..they only deliver "before 3" and "after 3"... that's as much of a time frame as you get. We were set for a wednesday, but had to reschedule for thursday, so tuesday we called to reschedule and were told we were good to go... so we set it for thursday after 3, but they stop delivering at 5 so we called at 4:55 when it still wasn't there and asked about the delivery and were put on hold back and forth.. asking who we spoke with and what the deal was, and finally we were told that no one had changed our scheduled delivery to that day. We were again, slightly upset but we try not to be jerks, although we were frustrated.. THEN we were told our new furniture, for which we HAD a delivery date- was never ordered... Then we were pretty pissed.. how can you NOT order furniture, but set up a delivery date? and THEN we were told it was discontinued and we wouldn't be able to order new ones at all... And this was a manager who had "ordered" our couches and set the delivery date.. So at that point, we had just had it. They told us they would have another manager call us in about 30 mins. (He makes all the orders and things that are put through). He called us, and luckily was very nice, as we were also, we were just frustrated. I'm not sure what happened, but apparently when they put the order in, he told aaron's to call us and they didn't. And then- he tells us it's NOT discontinued, and he offers us a sectional, which we'd pay twice as much for in the long run- i told my husband absolutely not.. they're not getting any more of our money- I don't want to deal with them any longer than we have to, and then he says ok we can get new ones of what we already had- like we had planned. He said the loveseat would take longer than the couch, but we were just happy to have it resolved. He also knocked off the amount we would be paying extra, so we're still paying the used price for the new merchandise which was nice, and we were happy with that. We got our couch, and everything's been good. Then wednesday I get a call saying that our loveseat is in. The manager (again) sets us up for friday before 3. Today is friday and its 3:40... I called at 3, because my husband said it hadn't come yet, and I would have waited, except for our prior situation so I called right at 3. The lady I spoke with just says "oh yeah they still comin' " Oh... thanks for the clarification.. So I said, well we were set for before 3, so do you have a timeframe or ballpark or anything? And she just says no, but they're still comin' today. So let me get this straight.. My husband already had to wait all morning and early afternoon for you guys to be there, and now he'll have to end up wasting his entire day waiting on you guys becuase you cant get there in the 6 hours you are given? If you can't make it- don't schedule it! It's not fair. Believe it or not, we DO have other things to do with our time. It's not like you can call the delivery guys on their cell phones or anything..(which I know for a fact they can do).
I cannot tell you how happy I will be when I don't have to deal with the idiots at that store that never know what's going on.. Maybe not ALL of them are that way, but the one in newport news on mercury blvd is terrible and I absolutely don't recommend going there. If I had known what I know now, I would have just kept the one crappy piece of furniture we had. Maybe if they were isolated incidents, but it's just one after teh other and there's no communication, bad business practice, and they pretend to have good customer service when they talk to you but they never follow through with anything. It's been pretty awful.
