I purchased a 46" Samsung TV along with a 5 year extended service warranty from Abe's of Maine in 2007. All was well until recently..I never needed to use the warranty. Now I have a problem with the set and attempted to contact the warrranty company, Repairtech, and found the number disconnected. I contacted Abe's of Maine and was informed the company no longer exists, and sorry BUT THERE IS NOTHING ABE'S CAN DO. After letting them know just how unhappy I am with that response they switched me to a Supervisor of some kind, who offered- in order to preserve our relationship mind you, and with no admission of their liability- that they would attempt making a repair if I bring the TV- a 46" model- to them in Edison NJ, which I think is about 60 miles from where I live, on Long Island. That is simply unacceptable..bear in mind that the 5 year extended warranty I bought for 500 dollars included in-home repairs.
Trying to make it work and after explaining to them that I happen to own a Honda accord coupe which no 46" TV is going to fit into, they finally after some serious back and forth nonsense offered to give me 250, then 300 of the 500 I paid for the warranty. And all this while making them out to be the victim..it was hard to believe, what I was being told.. I feel that if they don't plan to honor the extended contract they sold I should get a full refund. That sounds at least a little reasonable. It's bad enough I thought I was covered for this kind of thing and now have to pay for the repairs.
That said I'm off to American Express, that's how I paid for it. They have told me that I can dispute the 500 dollar charge, which I plan to do.
At one point Jason at Abe's indicated that the company had taken a big hit by the mess created when Repairtech went belly up, and I understand that. But I paid for the product and at a minimum should get a full refund. I never used it and while I sympathize somewhat I found Abe's of Maine lacking any proposed relief that is fair and equitable.
MORAL... think long and hard about using Abe's of Maine, or more specifically buying any kind of service contract. I thought they were a standup company but it appears I was mistaken.
Looking around I see there are also questions about Abe's of Maine and manufacturers warranties, if they are an authorized dealer, etc etc..more food for thought before you purchase anything from them. Let the buyer beware..
This is not something I do as a rule but I am terribly disappointed in this company, and felt compelled to put the word out.
