I purchased 2 coats at Abercrombie & Fitch the first week of december for both of my boys. 2 weeks later, I returned one of the coats because the zipper had broken. They took the coat and made an even exchange for a blue coat. My son, who was at home called and asked me if they would let him have a red one instead. I asked a employee that was near the coats and he said yes, just put the blue one back and take a red one. I did as he said to do. Upon leaving the store, the security tag on the coat triggered the alarm. I explained to the girl who insepected my bags that it was an exchange and that I would go to the cashier and have the tag removed. (didnt know there were tags on the coats) They would not remove the tag and said they had already given me a blue one..This is the real kicker here. They looked at my other son (who was with me) and asked if he was wearing the exchange jacket and told me they would not give me a refund, another coat, NOTHING! They implied that we tried to steal a coat. I called the police, I produced a receipt for the coat my son had on and a receipt for the coat that we exchange. The police went into the store, while emloyees watched videos to see if we stole. The police said they didnt want to press charges but I wasnt getting another coat. Of course they couldnt press charges, we STOLE nothing.
Upon experiencing this I then had to go to another store and purchase my son a coat to wear to school the next day. UNREAL!!
Ok, so this is the issue I would love to address. After this whole thing happened I looked online and saw complaint after complaint about this store keeping peoples money...Some have said the store would not give them give a refund due to register problems yet the store kept the returned clothes. Customers were promised a refund at a later date and the customer who no longer had the clothes was still awaiting a refund. I was told my case was a civil issue. I also read articles about the sale prices not matching up with the amount they were charged. Article after article on poor treatment which I can relate too because I was treated like a piece of scum thief. Did I forget to mention the day I returned his coat I spent $388.00 in the store? Oh, but I was trying to fraud them out of a jacket?
If anyone has any input on how a store can legally get away with keeping peoples money, not to mention the fact that they are inhumane and treat people like crap, please feel free to post your comment. I think something should be done about this. I see a class action lawsuit was filed in regards to discrimination, maybe a class action lawsuit should take place for them ripping people off..All we need is a bunch of people that they have done this to stepping forward..?
