The left hand doesn't know what the right is doing
After applying for a further bond from FNB, which is denied because of an arrears account with ABSA. No ways I say. I phone ABSA, one person refers me to another, go into my branch, who tells me I should phone so and so. Hell, I must go home and sort out at my cost ABSA's balls- up, running up telephone costs. Eventually get to talk to sombody who confirms I am correct, but this and this is not right and they want to listen to the alledged recordings for confirmation. I am even told that I did not make a payment in August while holding the said proof of payment in my hand. One day later I'm phoned to tell me that ABSA has only started with recordings 2 weeks ago, WHAT only now, 4 months after the alledged phone call. ABSA you and your staff are incompetant and owe me money for calls and administration that you should of done. ABSA you have got too big and are now lacking that personal service. I believe after all the ***, I've had over the last 4 years with ABSA, I am owed a medal or at least some type of compensation.

Twice now I have had a problem with ABSA deducting money from my account
Twice now I have had a problem with ABSA deducting money from my account without my authorisation and when queried, get fobbed of with 'we will refund this back into your account'. The first time was soon after I opened my account - I had applied for some small business package that didn't work on my PC. When I discussed this with the business manager he promised to stop the subscription, but I was still billed for 2 months after. When I again spoke to the business manager he promised I would be refunded. 2 years later this has still not happened. Then about 3 months ago Absa 'mistakenly' deducted R300 for some programme that I had supposedly applied for. Again I was promised an immediate refund. Needless to say this has not yet been done, and I'm not holding my breathe. BE VERY CAREFUL if you ever apply for an ABSA account - you may pay a lot more than you bargained for. I work *** hard for the little I earn, and I really don't see why I should fund the 'fat cats'.

Stay far away from them
I use my Absa Credit Card extensively. I was sort of happy with the Rewards program that was offered free as part of my package (Platinum Customer). I have now realised that this has been discontinued with no (or very low key) announcement. I can now subscribe for an additional fee of about R20 for the new Awards program. While I am sure that Absa can do this legally and have all the rights as is probably documented in the fine print, this is an indication of a high-handed, unethical approach that is just not acceptable.
I have been sold something as part of a package that has now been removed unilateraly. I can now sign up for a service (that I used to have) for an additional fee. The benefits that I accrued over years and had a specific target in mind, I must now exchange for goods that I don't want within a limited timeframe. This is a business decision that says everything about how much the bank care about me as customer.
Rewards programs are designed to change behaviour. Well designed Reward programs entice consumers to use their credit cards more. Just watch how my Absa card usage is going to drop now.

I have received absolutely no documentation since I opened the account
I opened an account for my baby born a year ago, with Absa bank. I have received absolutely no documentation since I opened the account and so I don't even know if it was successfully opened, or whether the R500 I deposited is in it, or not. When I phoned to confirm the existence of the account with the only information I have (my ID number and my baby's) I was bounced around and told that I had to go into the branch. I refuse to go and queue in the bank with my baby and just want to confirm that the account exists as this is not my mistake. The controller on the Verification Phone line refused to give me her name and put the phone down on me. I hope that the call was recorded so that her inability to handle a customer call is on record. She asked if I had asked for anyone else's name and when I said 'no', she put the phone down! I am revolted at the service and concerned that my baby's account doesn't exist.
The consultant at the Woodstock branch who opened the account for me was called Marwan, and he did phone me last year to go back into the branch as he had forgotten to photocopy my Proof of Address.

I by far have to be the most dissatisfied client from ABSA
I by far have to be the most disatisified client from ABSA. I filed a complaint over 2days ago whereby i had requested an arrangement be setup temporarily for the repayment of my bond for 3months. I was appauled when i went to the bank over the past weekend and informed my account was behind as i was depositing funds less than my bond. This was queit a suprise as i had a consultant previously contact me to confirm the go ahead for the payment arrangement. I insist the calls in that department be listened to because this is really causing a bad judgement for me.

No one at ABSA is willing to assist
ABSA have been sending my credit card statements to my post box for 3+ years and suddenly they started posting it to my home address and they changed my surname as well. I informed them and they tell me that I must go to the bank to change it back and I refuse as I did not change it. I now got a SMS and an email (both addressed to my WRONG surname) that I don’t comply with NCA and if I don’t send my FICA documents before 23 October 2009 they will probable cancel my accredit cards. No one at ABSA is willing to assist.

Not releasing loan
As director of Orono Trading I asked a loan for buying cattle. The loan was permitted, registration of the mortgage bond on the farm took place on the 12th of August. The same day I bought cattle assuming release of the money within some days. Until now, 3 October, I didn't receive any money.
Mrs Jansen went ill before registration and I was informed that Denise Strout of Menyn branch was responsible now. From the 16th September Mrs Jansen worked again. After phoning several times I was asked at the end of August for a resolution of the trustees of the farm. The 9th September they needed insurance of the home, signing of trustee papers and life insurance policy. This week they needed proof of registration of the mortgage bond and yesterday another piece of paper of the auditors.
After my and my lawyer's calls being ignored I lodged a complaint on 4th of september.(Re433522) The 29th september calling three times, speaking to different persons at action-on-line who did't come back to me, I wrote an e-mail to action-on-line the same evening ( not being confirmed until now). The area manager phoned 30-9 to confirm that she knows about the problem and they are working on it.

Absa not returning calls costs me money
I have Absa accounts for 11years, and my business accounts for almost 3yrs. In this time, you can count on one hand the number of times my account went overdrawn. I am a good client (an ex-employee of absa as well), and I normally have between R40k - R60k passing through my account each month.
Yesterday I noticed that a client payment was late, and therefore my account was overdrawn. I phoned Absa Florida, left two messages for the Small business banker to call me, as there was money going into the account last night, and I wanted to inform Absa so that they didnt reverse the payments. No one bothered calling me, even to tell me I was overdrawn - I took the initiative! At the time i never knew who the banker was, they dont seem to last at that branch.I then noticed that, in the afternoon, my debit orders were reversed. tried to phone the bank again... NOTHING.
1of the furniture city debit orders went through the account and was reversed 3 times, totalling PENALTY FEES of R330 for that debit order alone! Money was in my account last night! Had they called, this could have been avoided. I refuse to pay the fees, as i feel I have not received service. Best part: still no call back!!

Ripoff with salary deposit
Take notice of the latest scam from ABSA - when you have to deposit your salary cheque you now have to pay a fee of R50 to have the money immediately available. Standard Bank have no such fee and I am considering moving my accounts to them asap.
