To whom it may concern,
I ordered a free 14 risk free trial of effective cleanse antioxidant consisting of 1 bottle of Life cleanse and 1 bottle of Acai Berry detox from "Trading Planet Ltd" and I understood the terms and conditions to be that I would be automatically entered into monthly plan billed to my submitted credit card UNLESS I cancelled within the 14 days specified for the free trial offer. It seemed straight forward so I ordered online.
Then I read the fine print on the confirmation e-mail I received and discovered that it was from the time of the order, and not time of receipt of the shipment. It was a red flag that the product shipped from UK and while I was concerned that something may be amiss, I decided to wait for the order to arrive, provided it was well within the 14 days before pushing panic button, as I felt there would still be time to call number provided and cancel.
I placed the order on 23/08/2009 at 09:49:13 EDT and received it today - Tuesday Sept 1 2009. That meant I had only 3 full days left to try the product, as I also discovered the business hours only go monday to friday - so weekends you can order the products but not cancel.2nd Red flag. I got more worried after opening the package, and discovering there were no instructions other than an invoice thanking me for the purchase. I then went to research the product more thoroughly and discovered that many people have been scammed by this specific company (not all acai products are created equal it seems) and the people who ordered from Trading planet Ltd (life cleanse /Acai berry detox free trial offer) could not opt out of the plan, esp after the 14 days expired and so I felt I should not wait, but call the CDN number provided to see if I could cancel BEFORE the expiry period, just to make sure things were on the up and up. To my horror, the many numbers provided on the receipt were ineffective, or inactive and when I finally did get through to a human being after several phone numbers recorded messages or being given new numbers to try, I was informed that all the information I gave the responding agent (that is my order ID, customer # date of order, my name, my address, my postal code, ) was insufficient to cancel, and that apparently I was not in his system, as I was a Canadian client and he handled only UK. I tried to explain those numbers did not work and his was the only one to which I had been led to. All the agent (who had a pronounced Indian accent) wanted to know from me was my credit card info, and this set off a new red flag so I refused to give it to him, having given all the relevant details of my order and told him my only desire was to CANCEL my order immediately. he said he could not help me so I then said it sounded more and more like a SCAM and that perhaps I should report the company to the RCMP fraud squad where in he said he could not help me and he hung up the phone.
I then did more research and found this link and decided not to wait, but report my experience right away. I want someone to know that I tried to cancel well BEFORE the 14 day deadline ended, so if I have to take legal action I at least have some record of trying to cancel the order and reporting the scam officially.
Thanks for your help,
