CANCEL YOUR DEBIT/CREDIT CARDS IMMEDIATELY
I stumbled across a website with an advertisement similar to the one shown here:
http://acaiberrysite.com/beware-of-free-trial-offers-for-acai/
I paid the shipping and handling with my debit card for two separate products on April 15, 2010, and never received any product. When I called customer service after 11 days to inquire about delivery and to "cancel" as to avoid outrageous (nearly $80) additional charges as the fine print said, I was informed that my order had been cancelled by the company because the item was sold out or that the offer was not longer available (online customer service records indicated order was placed April 15 and cancelled April 19). The customer service rep informed me that my money had been returned (my bank records indicated that it had).I specifically asked, "so no further charges will be made against my account?" She replied "no". Now here it is the end of July and I see two charges on my back statement totaling $2.52 each:
07/30/2010 Debit Card Transaction NTR*acoptimumcs.com 8664 07/29NTR*acopt $2.52
07/30/2010 Debit Card Transaction NTR*acoptimumcs.com 8664 07/29NTR*acopt $2.52

Now, if I had $100, 000 in my bank account, I’m sure I would not notice $5.04 being stolen from my account. I suspect that there are many, many people out there like myself who have read the fine print, called within the 14-day trial period to cancel or thought they had cancelled at a later date, yet are secretly having money stolen from their accounts or charged to their credit cards because they do not meticulously inspect every transaction on their statements. I was told when I recently called “customer care” that the charges were a “computer glitch” and that my money would be refunded within 3-5 business days. Now that I’ve seen it and am reading about others who have experienced similar situations with this company, I see that this scam has been public for quite some time as the above website and this one documents.

This scam seems to be a global trend as I have read the same complaints from people in Australia.

Yet what I am wondering is why this scam continues? I have read of many filing claims with the Better Business Bureau, Federal Trade Commission, the FBI, and contacting their attorney generals. Shame on our government for allowing this to continue! The above website has a link to file a report with the Federal Trade Commission if you have been scammed and ripped off. I guess Monday I will be going to the bank to close my checking account because how can I be sure another “computer glitch” won’t happen in the future? I suggest anyone who has had dealings with this company or any of its other assumed names (others at ComplaintsBoard have posted this company’s many names, addresses, and websites) cancel their credit cards or close their checking accounts immediately! Charges may be made without notice to your credit or debit cards months after you thought your dealings with this company had ended as a result of a “computer glitch.” File complaints with appropriate governmental agencies (though this hasn’t seemed to have done anything to stop this company from continuing to scam and steal from people).
