Across USA Moving And Storage Reviews

Ripoff and theft
OK, so I got an estimate for a move, be prepared for them to scam you. The price of my move ended up costing $2100, as opposed to the $1290 I was quoted. They basically add on fees everywhere they can. Their own driver told me that they use extra small dimensions when you tell them what furniture you have, so that they can then add fees when they come pick stuff up. So add about $400 there They also charge you extra for each step they need to go up, because apparently when I say 3rd floor, the number of steps per flight needs to be 7. Seven! since when does it only take seven steps to go up an entire floor? so add about 75 per flight there. Whatever, those things don't bother me as much. The main reason I went with them, and rushed my move, was because the person who quoted me, Holly, promised the delivery date I needed, and I have several e-mails confirming this. But obviously, they had to disappoint here too! She told me they could deliver in 5-6 days, so I was happy about that, I could have even flexed to more than that. But it took them almost TWO weeks. I slept on the floor without any of my property because of them. When I called to speak to the manager, he promised a call back and never called. Even worse, when they finally arrived, late of course. They couldn't get three of my most important pieces of furniture in. Wouldn't even attempt it, they said they were professionals and could just 'tell' it wouldnt fit. I asked about lifting it through the window, they said they wouldn't attempt that either. So that all they could do is leave it outside on the curb. I had to get a storage for these items.

Pretty bad right? well to make matters worse, two of my paintings were damages, and so was my bookshelf, my small fire safe was open (I locked it) and two collection knives were stolen.

Stay away from these people, not only do they make things terrible, they won't even address anything.

Fraudulent practices
We moved across country from Houston and asked that the movers show up in Houston between the hours of 7 and 9 am. They showed up at noon and only gave us a $25 discount. The Houston manager, Eric, that was responsible for the pick-up makes more than that per hour and refused to give us any more than that off even though we had to end up taking a whole day off from work instead of only half. In fact he blamed me for them being late, because we had to rearrange our schedule for the day and asked that if they have to show up late, please show up after 10 am so that I could get some other things done. The official memo only says that I told him not to come before 10, with no further explanation. Some of the people that showed up were obviously day laborers and while they were learning on the job, they broke my desk. Then, they charged close to $400 extra for "packing supplies, " which consisted of bubble wrap and tape. After all the extra fees were tacked on, the new estimate came to ONE AND A HALF TIMES THE ESTIMATE, that we had already paid up front, in full.

Then on the requested date of delivery, the Houston office called just to insist we pay the remaining charges in cash or money order before they would agree to load the truck. This is on the day that they were supposed to have our things in the new city. We asked if we could pay using a credit card just so that there would be a paper trail, but they charge a 3% processing fee. We paid it anyway, because who knows where the cash or money order would go to once we handed it over? With their track record, they would say that they never received payment. Since the company has all of our things, we have no bargaining power, so we paid it just so they would get it on the truck and across the county.

The day before it is supposed to arrive (for the second time) we call THREE times to find out where our things are just to be told that they have not even put it on a truck to be transported yet. In essence, they collected our payment on false pretenses and then they don't know when they can have our things here. The call center is staffed with friendly people, but the ones that actually run it are all complete crooks.

They are not up front. They don't tell you anything unless you know what to ask specifically for. Please do not use this company! You never know when or if your things will show up and you're left in limbo with no recourse.

overcharged and fraudulantly charged my card
Contracted this company for $1850, paid down half but after items were picked up, the company charged my credit card for an amount in excess of $2600 claiming that they moved more than contracted without my authorization. They also broke $750 worth of items and would not furnish the requisite claim forms for me to try to recover damages. I spent a month trying to settle the balance unaware that they had already charged my card and collected. They demanded a cashier's check to settle the bill all the while they knew they had already collected. This is a bad, bad company whose strategy is to quote a low price, unjustifiably inflate the bill while they have your possessions in their possession and then try to collect using any means, no matter how illegal. These are bad, bad guys. Beware.
