I'm from NYC, and I'm used to purchasing my camera equipment from the Big Boys (B+H and Adorama). I buy from them because I know they have a real storefront, the prices are reasonable, and the service is trustworthy. After this first-time purchase, I'm willing to put Adray Camera in the same high category.
The Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 lens for Nikon mount I was looking for was sold out at most reputable retailers, except those price-gouging over a hundred dollars above MSRP.
I finally found one in stock for a good price at Adray, which I had never heard of before. I did some research and found that they were a Michigan brick and mortar store, but was initially quite skeptical to see that they had scored 10.0 in 18/18 reviews. Although it sounded too good to be true, I'm happy to report that Adray deserves it.
I initially phoned in my order, but Adray advised me to purchase it online so I could take advantage of the internet-only free shipping offer. Adray also offered to put the lens on hold for me while I completed the transaction. It's rare that a company will find you ways to save money, but that's good service.
As Johns870 noted more than three years ago, their customer service rep, Don, is really amazing. When my credit card company initially questioned the transaction and the order was canceled, Don held the lens for me on his desk while I could call the credit card company to confirm the purchase. Afterwards, Don called me back to verify that the order had been approved, and it was shipped out that same day.
