Advanta Bank Corp Reviews

High Interest Rates & Harrassment
I was a good customer who paid on time and all of a sudden I get a letter in the mail stating they have cancelled my business credit card and raised my interest rate from 7.99% to 26.99%. I called to see if they could lower my rate and customer service told me I was one of the luckily ones that is not paying over 32.99% and they would not change it. How is that luckily?

They did not want to work with the business at all. So the business did make a settlement with them after all of the harassment of two months. How is it they can report on my personal credit report when it was issued to a corporate business account? They are still making my life hell on my credit report. They were deceitful. The credit bureaus, Experian, Equifax and Transunion are taking their side. I will fight this all the way.

Do not do any business with Advanta Bank Corp.

Rip off
Advanta Bank Corp is a RIPOFF. I opted out of the new interest rate terms 29.99% and they closed my account and still raised it.

I constantly called and complained and refused to pay until I got some resolve. They reported this to the three credit bureaus. Did Advanta receive any bailout money from the government?

Not mailing statements
I noticed that we have not received our last two statements in the mail from Advanta.. We alway pay our bill in full and carry no balance to avoide the insane 30% interest rates. I just got an email that our bill is past due and now we owe a $39 late fee and interest on the balance. How come the only piece of mail that cannot find our mailbox is our Advanta bill? Has anyone else had this problem? Is Advanta "forgetting" to mail our bills in order to rack up additional fees and interest? I went to their website to download our statement and, surpise, they are experience technical problems and connot generate a copy of my last statement. If Advanta is intentially not mailing out statements, is this grounds for a class action law suit?

Cancelled Card While /Current
Received notice from these devious bastards the week of May 22, 2009 that my card had been cancelled, as well as all Advanta Card Holders accounts had been cancelled.
Can this be verified? The letter stated that Advanta Credit Cards were operated by a trust. Did they get a little scared by what O'bamy has in store for them. What does the street know that the typical "sucker" such as myself doesn't know. My account was current damnit, or I would have made these dirty bastards chase me and spend some of that money in legal fees.
My father always told me, "son don't let these kind of guys get you down, in the end they always get what's coming to them." I don't believe it anymore. My Dad was a died in the wool Democrat, and would have voted for a "Gorilla in a pin striped suit." Thank God he died a month before the election.

Interest Rates 33+ %
We have been hit with high interest on balances created by a dishonest employee that is presently under criminal indictment that used convenience checks that were forged issued by advanta the dollar amount exceeds 40, 000.00 in which we are paying interest on. We had Advanta research this and they came up with the fact that these checks were deposited to accounts held by us but withdrawn by her and therefor there was no fault by them.
The case is pending one more pretrial then a trial by jury. in the mean time I am still making payments on the outstanding balances
Does anyone have any suggestions as to who might be able to help in this matter?

Awful bank
Advanta Bank Corp raised the rate of my corporate credit card to 34.99%. I placed a phone call to customer service and ended up speaking with a supervisor to express my surprise and they immediately dropped the rate to 24.99% which in turn gave me more concern that a ripoff was occurring. After threatening to report Advanta to the Florida Attorney General, the supervisor suggested that I write a letter to the president of Advanta. Beware of this company!

Outrageous rates, harassment, no cooperation
Thank you for your reply and for reversing the lat charge. The additional $42.00 has been sent through our online account to this account as usual. However, you did not address the other two items that I discussed in my first message. I want the billing date moved to the 10th of the month. This allows our company time to take care of some administration of our accounts and pay on time. A closing day at the end of the month is most inconvenient. Also, Please do not call me any more. All future communications will be written via email. So what about lowering the interest rate to something reasonable like about 7%? Can't you just get this handled without countless back and forth which is a very inefficient use of my time and yours. The prime rate is less than 2%. I would agree to something between 3% and 7%, but not a tick more. If this is not possible immediately, then close the account effective today and just bill me and I will pay down the balance at the initial rate you offered me when I opened the account. Please no more phone calls.

thank you,

------------------------------------------------Dear Sonia Harden,

Thank you for contacting us about the late fee that was assessed to your Advanta account.

Payments received any time after the due date indicated on your billing statement are late. We must receive all payments on or before your due date to avoid assessing a late fee.

As a courtesy to you we have waived this late fee. This amount should appear as a credit on your next billing statement.

Since the credit will not appear until your next billing statement, please do not deduct the credited amount from your minimum payment due on your current billing statement. If you deduct the fee from your current payment, your account will be past due and additional fees may be assessed.

Our records indicate a lower rate may be available for your account. If you would please contact our Customer Service Department at the toll-free number indicated below, we will be happy to review the Annual Percentage Rate for your account.

We appreciate the opportunity to serve you and your business needs. If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact our Customer Service Center. You can visit us online 24 hours a day at www.advanta.com or call us toll free at (800) 705-7255, Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 8:00 pm and Saturday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Eastern Time.

> I have received the last few statements late, after the due date. You have charged me late fees and I want all the late fees charged to this account reversed! Also, since when is my interest rate gone up to 35.17%?!!! Have you people lost your minds? I opened this account because you offered me a reasonable low interest rate. Now you have hammered me with this ridiculous rate and I am not happy nor will I tolerate this abuse on your part. You will bring this rate down to prime plus 1 or I will close this account and I will also require you to recalculate the balance by a reduction of 60% any remaining balance to an interest rate of 7%. Since the majority of the balance is just accumulated interest that has been compounded over time. That is prime plus 3.

Now I am looking at my current statement online and it says that the minimum payment due on Mar 2, 2009 is $42.00. ???????????? Plus you charged me $39.00 late fee and I know that this account was paid on 26 Feb 2009!!! What the hell is going on in you accounting department??????? Your accounting practices are suspicious to say the least.

I am not going to contact you collections department as they are in Bangladesh and it is impossible to get them to understand anything. Furthermore YOU have not answered my questions about the interest rate nor have they as they have called and harassed me at all hours of the day and night which is illegal in the United States and furthermore your accounting practices are suspect to begin with. I have paid you on time and even sent an extra payment and you are still clueless as to what is going on with my account. I have the confirmation from Wells Fargo Bank that you have been paid and furthermore you will issue me a written apology, drop the interest rate to Prime plus 1% a and drop the outstanding balance on this account by 60%. I will file a complaint against you with the SEC and the FBI regarding your shady business practices and harassment of customers. You have be stalling on your customer service and I have had it and I will publicize the fact that you treat your business customers like dirt even when they pay you!

Here is the proof!

Interest rates raised
I too have the Advanta Experience and have learned from it. My experience was identical to others on this board. I complained to Advanta and was told by some lackey minion that management is fully aware of this increase and it was perfectly legal. I then found out they are in Utah because Utah laws allows their kind of behavior.

I paid off Advanta and continued to stew about it until I saw their stock had gone from over $10.00 to $00.35...yep, to thirty five cents in less than nine months.

To bad for them. Sorry about those who have the stock but that's what happens when you jump in with trash like Advanta.

Spread the word about Advanta to stay away from them but rest assured they are getting what they deserve.

BTW, stay away from any financial institution that claims Utah as their business location.

Overcharged
I just want to email you to let you know how greed on the part of credit card companies and bank have affected our lives. First of all, in 2003 we had our home in Phx, AZ for sale. We moved to SD to be with ill parents while the AZ home was in escrow. The sale fell thru, and we ended up paying TWO house payments every month for an entire year. To be clear, we paid 850/month for our sd residence, and also paid 1120/month for an empty home in PHX. We tried to get Washington Mutual to work with us, but they would not, since we were 'not late'. We were trying to live on half the income we had while in phx, yet paying double the bills. Washington mutual would not accept a short sale of even one thousand dollars less than we owed. We incurred and extreme amount of debt for this year of hell. We somehow managed to keep our credit scores clear of any late remarks and finally dug our way to where we could see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Now several years later, we have been taken advantage of again, for our willingness to pay pay pay. We work extremely hard like most americans. We do not have new cars, new appliances, new anything. We do not have cable tv or video games for our kids. we just want to get out of debt.

In Dec 97, we had our last payment due to Bank of America. This card at one time had a 13.5K balance on it. We paid 202/mo on autopay for years. Dec97 the last amt due was 28 dollars. The amt did not come out as usual so it was 7 days late by the time i caught it (my dad was dying at that time, but i still caught the bill in time to calli it in)...Well, somehow they ended up reported it as 30 days late. Right that very month and a few months after, all our credit card companies started sending us optouts, rate increases, changes in terms, etc. So I thought what is going on here, and checked our cr reports. Sure enough BofA reported us late and that is certainly why Advanta decided they had a right to default us to 36%!!! No way on earth would i ever pay this. ever. We are used to 0-9% rates. And we have never ever been late paying ANYONE, ever.

So I called them and they tried to weasel out of it saying that the credit report has nothing to do with it, etc. I told them the late mark is a mistake and i will prove it. They made us opt out and made our rate 24.99. I told them i would only pay that for a few months until i can show them the mistake and then we should get our 7.9back. They basically laughed at me. The laws are on their side and they know it. It has taken until September o8 to get two of the credit bureaus to fix this. I had to stay on top of BofA, equifax, TU, Exp, constantly. Now all three do not show the late in 12/07 for BofA. But mysteriously, equifax shows the same date and late mark for MBNA! I called the ph# on the report and it is indeed that same erroneous account report but since BofA was bought out by MBNA it is showing up on that, even after it was removed from the bofa...they just moved it over the the MBNA listed. Unbelievable. So now, even after all that, our TU score is 708, Exp is 701, neither showing any lates or derrogatory marks... and equifax is 698 with a 30 late error for 12/07. I called Advanta to tell them about the mistake being cleared on two bureaus and they have absolutely ZERO desire to deal with it. If it does not benefit us, consumers, taxpayers, americans, to pay our bills on time, why should i continue to care? I would rather flush this payment in particular down the TOILET (or actually better yet, use it to pay more ethical companies or pay for counseling for my trouble niece) each month than give it to an insensitive, greedy, crook!!!

What can I do? What can we do? I know for a fact that I have worked my entire life to maintain integrity and hard work ethics and character. I refuse to be taken advantage of any longer. If that means filing for bankruptcy at this point I just may have to do it. I cannot afford to pay these interest rate increases. Not even until 2010 when some laws will be changed and maybe not even help us as it will be too late. Period. No way. No how. Just cannot do it. I cannot keep spending valuable time trying to get them to be reasonable when it is not part of the deal that they have to try to be.

harassment
repeatedly called to collect a mere $35.00 balance after i hadn't recieved a bill in two months. the balance two months prior was $1.49 and i suscpect they didn't send statements so they could later charge the late fees. when i asked for a statement they refused to send one, and suggested i pay for it with another credit card.
