In January of 2007 my wife and I began paying back her student loan to ACS. The payment was approximately $260.00 per month. Every month that I could I would pay a little extra. In March of 2010 ACS sent us a letter that the loan was now split into two separate loans and the new payment was $460.94. When they split the loan into two separate loans I began to send the payment via my bank's electronic banking. ACS was not sophisticated enough to split the check into two separate payments and apply the monies to two separate loans. I had to call every month to help them with the errors that they are making. The typical response was "You should sign up to have it taken out of your account automatically." I would not feel comfortable letting this company automatically make withdrawals from my account.
Now they have changed there address that they would like payment sent. The last two payments have been returned to me. I recieved a late notice today in the mail and am having my bank send a check to the address listed on the late notice. I am sure that I will need to call once again to have everything straightened out.
As a taxpayer I find it disheartening to know that the government is using a company like ACS to deal with student loans that they have guaranteed.
