Air Castle and Cleveland Shifflett came with glowing reports from the internet however, I don't think all the reviews get posted. My experience with Cleve goes as follows...
I realized I had a problem with my A/C unit when ice was forming on it, so after switching it off and mopping up the dissolved water a couple of times and changing air filters I searched for a reputable A/C company and came across Air Castle. I called them around 9am and was pleased when Cleve said he would be able to come out and look at the A/C unit around 6pm. After work I rushed home to make sure I was there when he arrived, at around 6:30 he called saying that he would be late. Then again at 7:30pm he called again saying he woudl be late. At 8pm I called him to cancel because the kids had to get to sleep but Cleve insisted that he was on his way. At 8:30 he called me again apparently his GPS was working and so I gave him directions. At 9pm he called asking for more assistance. This time I told him to stay where he is and I’ll come and collect him since he was only a mile or so out. At this point, I did not mind the lateness, it was a hot evening and the kids needed the place cooled in order to get a good night’s sleep.
However, once he we finally arrived, he took a look at the compressor and tried to add some Freon which he seemed to have difficulty with, he didn't appear to be interested in actually looking at the unit inside the house, which maybe normal, I don't know I'm not an A/C engineer and this was my first encounter with an A/C tradesman. After several atempts at putting the freon into the compressor, he gave up and went inside to look at the unit. Everything appeared in order, the filters had just been replaced and the thermostat appeared to be working. So he went back outside and tried in vain to put Freon gas into the compressor. At which point he started umm’ing and arr’ing and saying he's not sure what the problem is but he has been able to put some Freon gas in the system which should do the trick. He then said I probably have a leak somewhere but he would need to replace the whole system to fix the problem and he could do it for me with a basic system around $6000 but a good system would be more.
At this point I was a little upset because the problem hadn't really been identified and the resolution of replacing the whole unit for $6000 or more was out of the question. No what really annoyed me was payment. He asked me for a scrap of paper, on which he scribbled some numbers and came up with the figure of $191.00 for which I paid and he wasn't prepared to give me a receipt. So I know that money went straight in his pocket and he left happy as Larry leaving me with an A/C unit that isn't functioning. In other words I was fleeced and there was nothing I could do about it.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND AIR CASTLE HEATING!!!
