Got a call from a man named Tim Robinson who said that he was calling from the legal dept of his company b/c I had defaulted on a payday loan from Cash Adv. I had frauded the company b/c I hadn't paid it back. I asked for dates, hard copies, copies of the email they reportedly had sent me. They said that at this point they couldn't tell me the dates or sent anything else b/c it was in legal action at this time. The only way for me to rectify the problem was to pay $325. Being an idiot, but also knowing that I had been in a tough spot several years ago, there was a nagging doubt that this could be real. SO, I let them debit my acct for the amount simply to stop this madness. OH, they had called my work and told them I must call within the next 6 hrs. They also told me they had contacted my employer. Ok, I paid them and thought that was the end.
Three days later one of my co-workers said she had happened by the phone, only to take this frantic message that I should call this same person about a financial situation that must be handled immediately. I called to find out what was going on. They said that there had been an oversight on their part and they would need an additional $125 for legal fees. I was livid. I told them heck no...they threatened to ruin my credit. They would talk so quickly and with a heavy accent that it was almost impossible to understand what they said. I told them if they ever called my office again I would report them. I eventually hung up on them. Within 20 min I had a called from some name, again the same heavy accent that said, they were from the "state investigaton bureau"...a clever yet incorrect inference to the State Bureau of Investigation. I knew that was WRONG. That prompted me to search online for scams, and sure enough...VOILA...I have been scammed by these predators. They had all my personal information and sounded v. convincing. I am furious that I was duped. I am making a police report before the weeks end.
