Received an invite in mail for a free 4 or 7 nite carnival bahamas/carribbean cruise in exchange to sit thru a 90 minute travel club sales pitch. My wife and I drove 35 miles to St Augustine and sat thru a 90 min sales pitch with a grilling afterwards ... (bring that lamp down closer..)
Both staff members swore as far as they knew, the cruise voucher covered all major costs - as in room and food. They were "conveniently ignorant" of any potential surprises we might find out later on. That way you couldn't discover the fraud & bolt early.
During the sales gauntlet they tell you every couple in the room costs them $400. I guess that's to reassure you of your free cruise and maybe the reasoning goes that we all owe All Points Accomodations an obligation to join their so-called discount travel club with inflated claims of discounted rooms.
Initially they offered a $6000 one time fee & $300/yr discounted vacation package and after seeing that I wasn’t interested, they offered a last minute half price package that I also turned down as I wasn’t impressed with it - even if I did travel and vacation a lot – which I don’t.
Only two weeks later do you discover thru the mail that there's a $180 or $300/head fee for a 4 or 7 nite cruise. Also a 3 month prepay and the offer is limited to off season mostly only sep-jan in the windowless lower bilge area of the ship with 2 uneven single beds. Then I go to carnival.com and see that they offer the same 4 day $179/head deal online to all comers.
Two other companies handle the cruise - Global Connections Inc. of Overland Park Kansas and cuisetimevacations.com. Cruise time vacations responded to an email complaint about this deception, "This certificate is discounted cruise, not Free. I suggest to go back to your sale agent [All Points Accomodations], is she/he misinform you."
Just as in the fraudulent housing bust liar loans, bogus AAA bond ratings and federal reserve counterfeit money scheme, we're in an era where fraud is the standard operating procedures in this new America.
Fraud is the new business model as times get more desperate and many of our businesses can't afford to practice full disclosure and uphold standards of integrity. Now I know what the USD means in common pricing descriptions. Welcome to the United States of Deception.
