In July 2010, I paid my regular $82.00 Electric bill that has pretty much been the same rate for 5yrs.That left my account balance @ $0.00.Then my August bill arrived in the amount of $169.00.I was Outraged! I called Allegheny to find out why it doubled and they gave me every kind of BS excuse you can think of.They tried to tell me that because it was hotter this year I am using more electric...I am still using the same 3 window units I have been using for the past 5 yrs and the temperature on them does not change! I even have the energy savers on them! I do laundry less often, there are less people in my home now AND I even turn the air off in all of the rooms by the one me and my children are in and Septembers bill was still $122.00!!! My August bill more than doubled and September was $42.00 higher than normal! I am a Newly Single Mother of 2 children just trying to survive in this economical breakdown and I was forced to go to my local welfare department to beg for a once a year electric bill payment help from them.So what happens next month when my bill is $170? Who do I turn to then? When my Husband was with us he took care of everything and now I am responsible for it all and I dont mind paying for what I use but my children and I are not using $170 worth of electric in 30 days! The woman at the welfare department said this has been happening to many people and they are coming to her for help with 2 and 3 hundred dollar bills that they just cant pay.What about the elderly living on a fixed income? Someone needs to do something about this THIEVERY! There must be some way that they can be forced to lower our bills.GREED, POWER, CORRUPTION is what they stand for.It is supply and demand - we need electric and they supply it, so either we pay or go without! Please Help Find a Way To Fight These Unfair Bills!
