contract scam
I had always had Alltel cellphone service for many years in good standing. When I moved to pine Island, Florida, I went to the Alltel store in Cape Coral and asked if there was service on the island as my contract was due to renew if I wanted and I needed to make sure I got signal there or if I needed to get a landline. I was guarenteed by the person there that Alltel had very good service on the island and there were no problems. So I signed a new contract for 2 years and got 2 new phones like I had done many times before. The next day when I tried to use my phone at my new home on the island there was no signal. It was rainy for 2 days and I figured it was because of the rain and clouds so I waited for the sky to clear up. Still no signal so I contacted Alltel. I was told that there NEVER has been signal on the island and I had 24 hours to return the phones and cancel my contract.I explained to them about what the Alltel person told me and about the rain. They told me it wasn`t their fault that I moved where there was no service, I had 24 hours to change my mind, and no Alltel rep would ever lie about where their service was at. They shut off my service, refused to take the phones back, sent the bill right to collection and charged me $368.00 for each phone canceled. Not one person from Alltel was willing to work with me or even talk to me about it. I refuse to pay that bill!!! And NEVER will either!

Customer Service
I've been doing business with Alltel for a year and recently lost my teaching position to a cut back on funding, so I'm having to relocate. Alltel just so happens NOT to have service in the city that I'm relocating to. They said I would be able to use my "roaming" service. Well, roaming is an "extra" charge that I should NOT have to pay! Secondly, they have no stores in the area I'm moving, which isn't a small city. It's Miami Beach. All I was asking from them was to "waive" fee to break my two year contract due to the circumstances. If they had stores in the area, I would certainly fulfill my second year with them, but they won't let me out of my contract REGARDLESS of the circumstances. I asked them if my battery died or I needed to have my phone serviced and there are no stores around...what would I do? They said I would have to find a Fed Ex, mail it in and they would send me a replacement phone in a couple days. Well, my mother just had heart surgery and I rely on my phone. It's the only one I have. I can't wait "2" days for Alltel's convenience for a phone. Gahd forbid something happened to my mother, or my job called, or something happened to me and I needed the phone and didn't have one...no thanks to Alltel!
The superviser I spoke with was rude and extremely unprofessional and two of the four customer service representatives couldn't speak English well enough to hold an intellectual conversation. I say that lightly as I am teach students from other countries to speak English. The two girls I spoke with couldn't speak nor comprehend. I am really astonished at the entire situation. Fortunately, I was able to speak with two intelligent and empathetic customer service representatives who agreed with me and tried to help me, but the superviser put a stop to everything when he said, "Miss, that's your problem...not ours." Needless to say, I was livid! I replied, "That's fine, but you will be hearing from me again." I've already filed a complaint with the Attorney General's office in North Carolina.
Be careful who you do business with...and I definitely would hold off on doing any business whatsoever with ALLTEL.
