Alltel pre-paid steals unused balance
I purchased a pre-paid phone from Wal-Mart in town. I bought it as a back up to my other cell, which is a different carrier but with inferior coverage in this area. Alltel has a near monopoly on the cell phone market in this rural area and they know it.

I put $20 on the Alltel phone back in December '08. I rarely use the phone, I just want it as a backup in case of signal loss on my other phone.

I was assured by the sales rep in Wal-Mart (all sales reps lie, I know) and by the phone reps at Alltel (again, liars) that I would always have access to my money/minutes.

If I didn't actually use the minutes, my money would be waiting for me. I would only get charged for actual used minutes.

That is a lie.

They will turn off the phone, regardless of how much you haven't used, after a certain time period. It does not matter how many minutes you actually use, it is the time limit that really matters.

Of course, that is hidden, minimized, avoided, and only when you can't get at your money will they harp on it.

If you ask for a hard copy of this policy, you are told to read it online. If you ask what do people without internet do, you are told, seriously, to go to the public library.

Where you can sit next to a paedophile who is surfing *** on your tax dime. Because librarians are so over-addicted to "free" speech without any limits, they think they're supposed to allow it, and even defend it, or it'll mean they're disloyal to what the 1st Amendment "really" means. But I digress.

I asked can I get a copy where I bought the phone (seems reasonable)? No, either go to the Alltel store or go online. That's it.

Then, they hang up. If you are still trying to understand how it is they can keep your money without you getting what you paid for, they won't help.

The ESL operators at the Alltel customer service center, which they all insisted is in America, are: Tina, Meg, Shereen, Dana, Mary and several with names I simply could not spell if I tried.

The moral of my story: don't buy a pre-paid phone that has ANY time limits on it and you must ask that question bluntly, repeatedly and you must insist on seeing it in writing.

In these tough times, Alltel has stolen the original balance remaining of $16 and now the $20 I paid on a refill card that I had to spend to pay their ransom so they will "rollover" the original balance.

If I had any real choice, trust me, I'd hurry and use up the time I paid for and then go get a different pre-paid.

But the only other pre-paid I can get out here is Tracfone. I understand from several people that they are terrible.

So it *** to be an Alltel pre-paid phone user. This is why I'm keeping my original cell and I will NEVER sign a contract with Alltel.

Terrible company
When you use Alltel.com to order new service, phones, etc. You should know that all the promotional items are actually being offered by Let's Talk. Alltel.com showed a promotion that showed free activation. I ordered two phones and a $59 plan. When I received the first bill from Alltel, it showed a $50 activation fee for the two phones. I called Alltel and I was told that the free activation was actually provided by Let's Talk and that I would have to pay the fee and after a couple of billing cycles the $50 fee would be refunded. I did manage to get the fee removed from my bill but I felt it necessary to advise everyone that Alltel.com is actually being controlled by Let's Talk and free on the website is not necessarily free when you get your bill.

IMHO this is deceptive advertising and I intend to contact my state attorney general to advice them of the misleading sales practices. If phones are purchased through the Alltel website, they cannot be returned to an Alltel store. They must be shipped to Let's Talk in Texas.

I do not advise using Alltel.com to purchase phones or plans, if you need to return them within 15 days to nullify the contract, it can be a hassle to return the phones clear to Texas and you will be charged for service even while the phones are enroute to Texas. Buyer Beware!

Auto bill pay/wrong date
After my husband was laid off from his job I was having a hard time paying all the bills. One month I knew I was going to be late paying my bill so I called customer service and set up an automatic bill payment out of my bank account. This portion of the call was recorded. I stated I wanted the bill taken out of my account on the 16th of the month for that month. On the 8th of the month my bank account was in the negative because Alltel had taken out the money. I called and the financial supervisor stated it was Alltels mistake and the money would be back in my account iin 24-48 hours------what about the bank fees? I was told I would have to fax my statement in have them review it and I would have a reimbursement back in my back account in 7-10 business days after reviewed. Thanks a lot Alltel, my bank account isin the negative, hope I dont need gas in the next few days! I contacted Samuel Jefferson, a name and number I found after searching "alltel complaints" on the web. He is the Executive of Customer Relations and his direct number is 501-906-7318. He was nice but told me the same thing, thats all they can do-----maybe the reps should be a little more careful with customer bank accounts.

Early Termination
On December 27th I stopped by my local Alltel Company and inquired about changing my service. The gentlemen ask me what I was looking to do. I told him I wanted to purchase a Iphone on this same day and wanted to know if it was ok and would there be any additional charges other than the monthly fee. He looked on his system and told me no, I was eligible for making changes as of December 8th. He gave me the information that I need to get new service and I left. Then about 4 days later I receive a bill for $433.00 $400 for early termination. When I called the company and spoke with 1 employee then 2 different supervisors and tell them what had happened. The second supervisor almost called me a liar that there was no record showing I had stopped by any Alltel location. I then ask for another higher up supervisor. First of all had they given me the correct information I would have this problem. The supervisor told me I could actually make changes until March 2009. But that I could upgrade in Decemember of 2008. I told her if he had told me that in the beginning I would have waited until March. No one would fork out $400 for termination if they knew it.

We have consistently been over billed, charged for text messages that were already included in our service and charged different rates for the exact same taxes and fees for each phone. Repeated attempts to resolve and contact Alltel have resulted in them telling us 'someone would get back to us' about why the taxes and fees were always inconsistent and over.

We were told it must be 'your phones' when we pointed out multiple discrepancies and billing for text messaging that was covered under our plan - and issued a credit for that month. But if we don't watch each month the do it all again and only resolve a small percentage of issues after HOURS of phone calls. Nothing we do resolves this problem.

We would be very happy to join ANY class action lawsuit against alltel regarding improper charges and over billing.

no download available for Razr VE20
Recently purchased Razr VE20 to replace broken Razr V3 that was used as modem for laptop. Now trying to get download for driver for VE20 and they don't have it available, don't know when it will be available but should be "soon"... very frustrating that they cannot even have software available to support equipment they are selling. Had to work thru rep that handles company's account - she is no help and has no interest in offering customer service. Any advise to get access to this info for download?

Bad service
I ordered this wireless internet device for my laptop. The sales owman told me I had twenty days to retutn it if I was not satisfied. I received the device on Friday October 10th and set it up on the 12th. It was very slow as slow as dial up. Today I called to see how to return the device and they told me the twenty days started from date of purchase. How could I assess the usefulness of product if I was waiting for it to be dellivered. Customer service person told me I have to either pay a $200.00 termination fee if I want to cancel. I have two cell phones from this company and for 4 years I have paid on time.

I am very angry that the twenty day period started before I had the product and I would like to be recognized as a good customer and be allowed to return a product that is not useful to me due to the strength of the signalin my rural area.

Customer Service is Horrific
Saying the customer services Alltel provides is horrific is an understatement. Their in-store service and customer service from headquarters leaves EVERYTHING to be desired. I wrote a letter to headquarters complaining about the lack of service and they called me promising to get back after verifying the facts. I've tried calling 3 times in the past 2 months to follow-up and no one returns my calls. They overcharge on the bill; don't honor their warranties; and headquarters, billing and the stores all have different ways of interpreting their service contract. As soon as my contract is over I'm out of there!!!

Scam billing
Following is a copy of a report I sent to Stephen Six, Kansas Atty. General:

'On June 13th we discontinued cell phone service with Alltel as we had changed providers to Nex-Tech, our local rural telephone company. Our billing cycle with Alltel was from the 9th of each month so we received 4 days service in June from Alltel. We were billed $60.59 and when I called them they said it was their policy to bill for the entire month when service is discontinued. This is outrageous. I sent them a check for $10.00 and told them my policy is to pay promptly and in full. I marked final payment on my check. This month we got a bill for $50.59. I called again and this time talked with a Supervisor and again I was told this is policy. I did not get the names of those with whom I spoke but I did make those two phone calls in an attempt to correct what I consider to be unfair billing. I told them I would be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. When I talked with BBB, I was referred to your website.

Do I have any recourse? I do not think we should have to pay for service we did not receive. Oh, and we paid in advance the first time billed which was in November of 2003. Our 2 year contract with them expired years ago. Any help you can give to me will be greatly appreciated.'

I have not received a response for the Atty.General other than to request documentation which I have sent.
