Amazon.com Reviews

Bad customer service
I purchased couple of items for my baby from Amazon.com. I've been a customer for several years and I buy things from them on and off. The day after I bought the items I noticed that the price for both items had been reduced. I emailed Amazon and I was told that it is unfortunate but their prices keep changing and they cannot adjust their prices. Now this is something that every brick-and-mortar retailer does and also scores of other online retailers. I called Amazon and talked to a customer service rep who told me that they do not offer a lower price adjustment but because I have been a long time customer she would give me a $10 Amazon.com gift card. I even asked her if the GC expires and if I can buy items from other sellers from Amazon.com, etc. After 2 days when the GC did not show up in my account I again emailed Amazon and they again said the same thing "it is unfortunate etc. etc. and they cannot do anything". I called them up and after talking to several CSRs and their supervisors was essentially told they used to adjust prices if the price went down but stopped doing this since October 2008. This was never communicated to customers and is extremely difficult to even search and find on their site. One supervisor told me that their customer service departments is spread over several countries and it is almost impossible for them to track down or obtain records of phone discussions (though I'm sure they would do it if it was in their interest).
It was clear that even if the initial CSR had made a promise they were not a bit interested in fulfilling it and kept telling me that they will train/discipline the CSR (the only person who made an attempt to be helpful and make a customer happy). Almost everyone I spoke to had a somewhat different reason/story as to why my request should not be fulfilled. I eventually asked them to close my account and remove all my information from their mailing lists, etc.
I'm not angry at the CSR or their supervisor but rather dissapointed with their inadequate training in handling unsatisfied customers and their narrow vision. By not making a fairly minor adjustment and then going back on their promise, they not only lost a longtime customer but also gained a strong critic.

Buyers at Amazon beware!
Buyers at Amazon BEWARE! There are lots of other opportunities on the web to get the same product. It might be a little more, or not, but you will get what you order, and in a timely manner. Amazon is a one track business. Get you order/money, and forget about satisfying the customer. I order a TEXT book over 3 weeks ago. Headed into 4th week of classes w/o the book. Amazon claims I have to wait another 2 weeks to file a complaint, and refuses to contact seller to verify whether shipped or not. I have tried to email the seller numerous times, w/ NO response. Since the seller refuses to respond, it can be assumed she failed to ship. I can't cancel the order, or credit my acct. until Amazon contacts the seller in 2 weeks, and waits for a reply. Why won't Amazon contact seller NOW. Save us all a lot of time. Meanwhile I have been charged for the book, now must write Amazon's charge account why I won't pay (why should I pay for something I did not get.) Amazon claims the seller is their customer, too. In short, they won't take responsibility for bad service. I have to do all the work; contact credit card acct., contact Amazon repeatedly to try to end this BAD SERVICE. Do yourself a favor AVOID BUYING on AMAZON!

Collectibles listings
Amazon is allowing their sellers to list just ordinary books that there are thousands of as Collectible at prices that are in some cases 1000% or more than what others are selling the same book for. Apparently with Amazon anything goes these days as long as they can make money off of it. If you are looking for a true collectible read the descriptions very carefully and check on sites like abebooks.com to compare before buying. I have run across a lot of listings that claim to be collectible with prices of $30-$70 for books everyone else has for around $1 or so! The criteria for collectibles is more suggested than mandatory on Amazon, so just because it is a 1st edition a 2005
Sonoma Diet it is listed for 89.98 by one seller as collectible, even though it is just like most of the other 455 listed from $ .01. Just about anything can be listed as a collectible under Amazon's vague guidelines. Some sellers are just plain greedy and want to take advantage of people in every way they can. I was looking for a signed James Patterson and saw there was a collectible 2nd Chance for 68.44 on Amazon. After looking into it further I saw that it is exactly the same book that 594 sellers had starting at one penny. Check it out for yourself! Sellers can charge anything they want these days -- so BUYER BEWARE-- make sure of what you are getting for your money by comparing prices! I have complained to Amazon about a couple of these collectibles listings and they send me back their standard email saying they'll look into it and that there findings are confidential -- but the books have remained in the collectibles so obviously they don't care if their customers are being taken advantage of as it is just all profit to them.

gift certificate theft
After a devastating house fire, I received a $130 Amazon gift certificate from my friends. I was too distracted to focus on it until now. Now Amazon tells me the certificate is invalid. I received no warning that this might happen and certainly not that it was imminent.

This means they have confiscated $130 from me and my friends. This is outright theft.

I should receive a reinstatement of the $130 gift certificate, or, at the very least, a refund to my friends to so generously gave me the gift certificate.

Parts for truck did not fit as listed.
My opinion and review... I own a 2005 Lincoln Navigator, which this item is suppose to fit based on the check if it fits drop-down menues. Since this item was suppose to fit I ordered it, took my 2005 Navigator to a professional (Local) Hot Rod Shop and was told the bad news (This doesn't fit) after all the OEM parts had been removed and new ones were attempted to be installed, and worst yet they (The Hot Rod Shop) contacted Gibson about the headers and were told that the (D) Port Heads my Navigator has (they don't make headers for)? So, after $1050.22 in labor and new gaskets to replace my factory parts I found out I have to return this item and still paid for Labor and parts for something I should never have been sold. I have currently been told by Amazon.com (through a complaint response to the Better Business Bureau (now) that they Amazon.com will not pay the labor even though a representative from Amazon.com initially said they would pay it... At this point I have had to contact other legal parties to investigate and spoke with Gibson Performance (Who Amazon.com says built the listing for their website) even though Amazon.coms listing says "Ships from and Sold By Amazon.com." Gibson Performance is looking into the matter but would not confirm "IF" they will repay the labor? I WOULD NOT HAVE ORDERED THE PART IF I KNEW IT DID NOT FIT. Item discription and or "Will this Fit" should be updated to reflect what "will actually" fit "... To this day the (2005 Lincoln Navigator is still shown to fit for these Headers)? and doesn't make any remarks specifically not fitting this application... Don't take a chance, go somewere else to make the purchase (not Online), somewhere that stands behind it's listed products and will make it right when they are wrong (especially when they said they would make it right from the begining)... For a multi-billion dollar company $1050.22 may not be much, but for the average home in America this is not something you can just say "Oh well!" I hope this is not a trend nation wide (or) world wide? I have ordered with Amazon.com in the past with great experiences, but this one takes the cake. I will re-think every purchase now and feel unsure about every purchase.

Order cancellation
I ordered a Fisher Price Power Wheels Jeep from Amazon.com, supposedly IN STOCK according to their site, in late November, advertised for $205. I used a gift certificate for $50, so the total price of my purchase was $155. Amazon.com sends me an email within a week stating that the order will be cancelled due to problems with the supplier unless I reply to the message to confirm I still want the item. I still wanted the item and I did not mind to receive it after Christmas for that price, so I replied as instructed. Within a week I received another message stating that my order has been cancelled as the item is out of stock and it is unknown whether it can be obtained any longer. When I checked on my order history, the order was nowhere to be found. I emailed regarding this situation and the reply that I received was that I failed to reply to their first email (for which I have a confirmation).

I am not sure what the deal is with the "supplier", but I bought the Jeep directly from Fisher Price for twice the price (including $60 shipping) without any trouble. I believe the price of the Jeep at Amazon.com was some kind of "teaser."

Price Adjustment
I was denied a price adjustment and credit for an order.

Within 3 days of my order the price changed from $99 to $88. This request is in line and standard at ANY other major retail website. All the other sites and stores had the same exact item for the same exact price. However, due to my prior relationship with Amazon, I chose them for their customer service. Now the price has been redueced at Amazon and everywhere else days later.

I am appauled and quite frankly dissapointed at the lack of customer service on this issue. I am a long time customer, however I must state that if a simple adjustment - just as any other retailer would do within such a small timeframe- will not be honored, I will NO LONGER be a customer and close my account immediately. I chose Amazon becauses of the customer service - other stores had the same exact item for the same exact price when the item was $99.

After 3 times contacting customer service, I was told that I should close my account as they know I have plenty of other options. But I may have super-difficulty returning if I choose to close my account.

I will take my chances. I will close my account. The good will lost on this issue is rediculous. It is the principal of good cutomer service which is lacking here.

participating in scam with Home Savings Mall
I made a purchase on Amazon.com on their secured server and they gave/sold my credit card number to Home Savings Mall who promptly charged me for an unauthorized membership for $14.95. When I confronted Amazon they kept dodging the issue and wouldn't help me with this. When I called Home Savings Mall they only told me that they got my credit card number from a purchase I made online. Since I only made one purchsase that day, the guilty party is Amazon (both charges were conincidently made on November 3). I saw an expose on the Today Show where these merchants (such as Amazon) sell off credit card numbers to predators for a kickback percentage of the amount the predator was charging to the unsuspecting buyer. Both Amazon and Home Savings Mall then hide in hopes that people won't scrutinize their credit card statements. I have contacted my Congressman, James Moran, and encourage others to contact THEIR Congressman. I'm just flabergasted that of all vendors, Amazon would stoop to this level and then try to push me under the rug when I confronted them. STAY AWAY FROM AMAZON!

One-Click: NO FREE SHIPPING!
BEWARE THAT enabling One-click Ordering effectively DISABLES "free shipping." When you turn on "one-click ordering, " your only shipping choices are first-class and express. Even if you select "group items into as few shipments as possible, " you will still be charged for first-class shipping, EVEN IF THE ITEMS YOU PURCHASE say that they are eligible for FREE SUPER-SAVER SHIPPING. You cannot select Super-Saver Shipping as a setting for one-click, so customers are effectively charged for the convenience of one-click ordering by paying for shipping that is usually given for free. Because this would seem to be a relatively easy problem to "fix" internally, it operates as a kind of hidden fee for one-click ordering-- one that has cost me personally a good deal of money over the past few years.

TURN OFF ONE-CLICK ORDERING IF YOU WANT THE FREE SHIPPING!!!
