My partner and I decided to purchase IMAX tickets and go see a matinee of "Toy Story 3" at our local AMC in Boston. The tickets themselves were $16.00 each, making the entire overwhelmingly negative experience we had seem even more of a let down, if that is even possible.
I have worked in Customer Service positions in both retail and entertainment for over 25 years- I am now 46 years old. NEVER have I been or experienced the blatant insulting slurs and behavior as I did from the girl working behind the snack bar
Please note, I AM NOT exaggerating what happened for effect.
Approaching the snack bar where there was no line or any other employee working exept the ticket taker across the way. She did not acknowledge I was there as she was "busy" leaning on the side counter talking to a male customer in n obvious casual, not business matter. I stood there for about 5 minutes until I called her politely "Excuse me, may I get a small popcorn, please?" She turned around, SIGHED and said "You have to wait, Im busy" then continued talking. I looked at my partner in disbelief and asked again telling her I was going to miss my movie and she said "Did you not hear me? Just wait!"
Now, Im angry. I said "no problem, ill just go ask your manager if he can do it" I went and told the theatre manager and he came over and told her to get me anything I wanted. She just stood there and when he walked away, she turned to the other employee and under her breath, yet audible said "Im NOT getting that FAG anything- you can do it!" I just lost my temper. Are you KIDDING ME? A nasty prejudice remark and refusal to help after being asked? I went back to the manager and explained I no longer wanted to see the movie at this theatre and I wanted a refund as well as an apology. That never happened. I got some passes, but as far as I know, she was able to keep her position and attitufe in check. UNBELIEVABLE!! I will NEVER go back to that theatre and will post as many on line negative comments I can about AMCs policies about dealing with such ignorant, rude, insulting employees. You should be ashamed, though you probably dont even care. It will NEVER be forgotten and your theatres will be botycotted by as many of my gay friends I can reach. Please do something about that girl and her seemingly unfased manager.
