lack of legroom, seating options
I sent an email to American Airlines on its web site complaining about a lack of legroom in coach and asking why I couldn't pay for more leg room without paying an exorbitant fee for first class. This is the answer I received:
I am sorry you were uncomfortable when you traveled with us. Clearly most of the time customers are on board our aircraft is spent sitting, so we know how important this area is to the overall enjoyment of your flight. Our aircraft seats have been designed to be as comfortable as possible, are standard in size and pitch and comparable to most of our competitors.

Please know that we are all working hard to provide the highest quality service in the industry and are looking forward to demonstrating this commitment to you firsthand. Please travel with us again soon. It is always a pleasure to welcome you aboard.

Isn't that swell? As you can see I received pablum boilerplate from a faceless Ms. L. Milam that completely failed to address my two complaints/questions. I did go back to AA's tiresome contact page and filled out a lot of extraneous info to restate my complaint. I'll just bet I receive a deep apology from AA's current CEO and around-the-world tickets for two to be used anytime in the next 10 years, but I won't wait up nights for them.

Displayed a total lack of organization
American Airlines in Dallas, TX did not have enough passengers to fill a plane to Santiago, Chile. That was our destination to embark on a cruise ship.

Instead, they flew us to Buenos Aires and then did not authorize us to leave Buenos Aires until 6:00 p.m. than evening.

There were many flights out of Buenos Aires to Santiago, but American Airlines did not authorize us, as well as twenty others to leave until 6:00 p.m.

This ensured that we all missed the departure of the ship.

We also did not have luggage for four days since it was left in Dallas where we had departed and we missed four days including New Year's Eve of our paid cruise.

They are so disorganized it brinks on the edge of insanity.

Fool me twice...
Oh how I wish this company had never been bailed out. They delayed and delayed all day, often with no notice to the many of us waiting in the terminal. The result was that my wife and I spent the first night of our honeymoon in a rainstorm in Puerto Rico rather than at the Ritz in St. Thomas. Then the Ritz took it upon themselves to cancel my reservation without telling me. A pox on you both!

OPEN CHECKED IN LUGGAGE
I DIDNT KNOW THERE WAS ALOT OF COMPLAINTS OF LUGGAGE BEING OPEN AND PERSONAL ITEMS BEING STOLEN . I HAD SOME PERSONAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS, COLOGNE AND A BROKEN CELL PHONES I WAS GOING TO DONATE TO A CHURCH THAT WAS TAKING THEM AND OLD EYE GLASSES WHILE I WAS ON VACATION. I CALLED AND WROTE AND THEY TRYED TO TELL ME IM SUPPOESED TO CHECK MY LUGGAGES WHILE IM IN THE AIRPORT.. WHO DOES THAT. IT WASNT A CARRY ON BAG. THEY TOLD ME IN SO MANY WORDS BY PHONE AND EMAIL TOUGH LUCK. WELL I POSTED MY COMPLAINT ON YOUTUBE, FACEBOOK, AND OTHER COMPLAINTS BOARDS AND MY PERSONAL BUSINESS WEB PAGE. IF ALL THE HITS TO THE PAGE AND WEB SITE KEEPS ONE OR 35, 000 CUSTOMERS FROM BUYING A TICKET FROM YOU SCUMBAGS MY JOB IS DONE. REMEMBER TO DO A INVESTIGATION RATHER THAN JUST PUSH IT OFF LIKE ITS A STATISTIC..I GOT ALOT OF PEOPLE ASKED ME ABOUT IT FAMILY, FRIENDS AND PEOPLE AS FAR AS DOMINICAN REPUBLIC AND PUERTO RICO. MY LOSS IS A OTHER AIRLINE GAIN AND MY PLEASURE.

Sucks
On a recent vacation to Hawaii, I missed 2 flights due to AA not being on time with their departures. On the way there, I arrived in Los Angeles 5 minutes before my connecting flight departed for Hawaii. Needless to say the plane didn't wait for me and I was stuck in LA overnight, losing 1 full day of my vacation. On the way home, my flight from LA to Dallas was an hour late... causing me to miss my connecting flight into my hometown. Again, i missed the flight by 10 minutes and needless to say, they didn't wait. *** American Airlines, bottom line.

Worst of the worst
American airlines cancelled my 17 yr old daughters flight and left her at the airport by herself. they put her on stand by and at that time sent her luggage back to dallas on a flight. my daughter stayed on stand by the rest of the night and never got a flight wille her luggage arived in dallas. now i have adaughter in orlando with no luggage and stuck at an airport aloan. her team she was with was on a later flight. you thank you have everything planed. they have no customer service you get an email to complain too.

Given several misinformations
Book a group outing only to have some to cancel. I called the group desk to get info. on what my options are. I had 2 different stories - 1) can reuse ticket from date of issue but then another representative advised me that since there was a change in times I could cancel and use it from date of cancellation. I then called yesterday and the representative could not find this person's reservation - thought all was well. But, I find it via internet and call back. I advised this person what has transpired who advised me I can only use ticket from date of purchase. I told her what I was previously advised - she said "so sorry" It will be impossible to use this ticket as I purchased them a year ago and would have to go soon - but we are already planning on vacation within this time frame. So, bottom line I'm out $$$ due to misinformation!!!

STOLE MY IPHONE!
After leaving the iphone on an airplane (my 1 y/o daughter) An employee recovered the phone and we spoke with her on the phone. She said she would put it in the lost and found in the AA break room, where only AA employees would have access to it. The next day someone was supposed to return it to us. Well guess what...next day it wasn't there. There are totally giving us the run around and the situation is under review by their insurance department. Here I am several months later and no money, no apology, no nothin!

assaulted by flight attendant
I was returning from a friend's wedding in Florida and was assaulted by a flight attendant. I was sitting in the row before the emergency exit so I could not lay my seat back. Therefore, I laid down to sleep on my tray - I was suddenly jolted awake when the flight attendant FORCED the seat in front of me all the way down. In the process she jolted my head and neck causing immediate pain, dizziness, and nausea. I was then told to leave my party and sit in another seat but the flight attendant did not show me which seat leaving me feeling incredibly ill and disoriented to search the plane for a seat on my own. I was moved three times. After complaining to the airline I received a very rude letter in which I was told essentially that I was lying, had not been assaulted and the airline denied my allegations. Since the incident I have been having severe migraines several times a week. I will be contacting my doctor, lawyer and JAG so pursue this but until then I advise anyone reading this to avoid American Airlines at any cost.

Bad Management - Delays
Heard about the fuel storage container problem at Miami Airport? Sometime last week while we were on vacation in Cayman we heard news of the explosion due to poor maintenance of the system. Thought by the time we left several days later (Monday, Mar. 28) our flight would be ok as American's Management team had several days to organize around their challenges. As it turns out, we were wrong. American Airlines planes are arriving and boarding on time in Miami as they are able to leave their points of origin on time. After boarding passengers on time, American is now choosing to make their customers sit on HOT, STUFFY planes while they que all their planes to stations to fuel up via tanker trucks. WE SAT ON THE TARMACK FOR OVER 2 HOURS. TWO HOT, STUFFY HOURS. The management of American made the choice to put previously ticketed passengers on these HOT, STUFFY planes knowing full well they would not be able to fuel in the planes for a couple of hours. The pilot kept apologizing for the unfortunate delays caused by the "fuel storage incident that could not be prevented." The stories I have read indicate the fuel storage problems were due to POOR MAINTENANCE. The fact that we had to sit on a HOT, STUFFY plane for 2 hours was a CHOICE MADE BY THE VERY POOR MANAGEMENT TEAM AT AMERICAN. As a customer by choice, they have lost my business.
