Reduced Credit
SCROOGED BY American Express just before XMAS with "There has been a change in your account, please call 866-684-8956, your credit limit has been reduced!" But wait there is good news, "you can pay the balance and presto your credit limit will be restored" One hitch, it will take 72 business hours to use the card that means no XMAS PRESENTS until Dec. 23rd.
Let me think, pay off the card or use the cash in the bank to buy XMAS Presents for next 4 days???

Change in payment terms
There is no such thing as LOYALTY in this country of ours. Not at work, not as a consumer. I have been an AE card holder since 1981. Just a few days ago I got 2 letters stating that one, my APR was going up to 23% plus prime and second my Sign and Travel charges would not be extended for payment in installments.
What really infuriated me was that their resoning for cancelling my Sign and Travel privelages was based on history with other credit cards and my overall debt ratios! I told the rep on the phone as to what did the other credit cards have to do with AE. She gave me the usual rubbish.
I think we need to flood these people with calls and complaints that they willeventually wake up and stop sucking our blood!

Lowering Limits without Advanced Notice
American express just sent me an email today telling me my credit limit had just been reduced from 10K to 2K. They gave me no advanced notice at all. They just reduced my balance. I immediately became alarmed because I had just signed up several bills to be payed by my American Express card and I was already nearing my 2K balance. I could easily go over my balance and be charged a terrible fee. So I called customer service and all I got was a robot who repeated to me that the reduced limit has gone into effect immediately and they had just sent me a letter. No help at all. I couldn't believe that this company who I had come to respect was now treating their customers so horribly.
They had already raised my finance charge and I just accepted it because I knew all banks were doing this. But this recent happening is reprehensible. They could have at least given me a common courtesy of advance notice. I am so angry at them... I will never view this company the same again. Obviously, they no longer care about their customers.

cancel card or raise interest
I'm not a big borrower and my balance is about 6K. I have been steadily paying off my debt and paid it down significantly from what it was before, around 9K. Well AMX first lowered my limit, so although I had thrown a lot of cash at it, it was no longer available for a rainy day. Then yesterday I received a letter saying that unless I dropped my account, they would raise my rates on the existing debt. What the !@#$. My interest has been raised several times with no warning on money I borrowed at the original interest rate. What is going on with these credit card companies being allowed to change rates and drop customers who have been paying their debts?

Raising Rates without being able to opt out
I am an attorney. American Express raised my rate on my Optima Card without giving me the option of "opting out". I have never been late with a payment. I believe that they have violated the terms of their credit card agreement.
If you had a low promotional rate and they raised it, even though you have never been late, they did not give you the option to "opt out" and you would ike to join me in a lawsuit, please contact me at the following e mail: [email protected] .

Underhanded business practices
American Express knew exactly what they were doing when they raised and changed the interest rates and terms on many accounts in August 4th 2009 mailing.
As I have been told by Amex customer service.
"These changes went into effect before the Law changed on August 20th 2009". This law gives the consumer the right of a 45 day cancellation option.
I would like to put forth this scenario for your speculation: They, being American Express, had advanced notice of the changes that were coming on the 20th. They moved on the changing card members accounts to insure they would entrap the greatest number of account holders they could before the law took effect. All perfectly legal. I guess it was a good move on their part it improved the bottom line in the short run.
I for one will never do business with them again and I will spread the word of their business tactics until my dieing breath.

Sudden cancellation
I have been a happy Ameriucan Express cardholder since 1984... I got a backdated letter telling me they were raising interest rates and minimum payments. I heard of the federal deadline and they missed it (hence the backdated letter that "took over 3 weeks to be delivered" - in the same city). I called them and asked why the deception.. the girl got indignant, so I asked for a supervisor - and none was available but "could call me back" later... which never happened.. .and lo & behold - they terminated a TWENTY-FIVE YEAR relationship, without so much as a phone call or letter. Truly unprofessional... and a sign of the times for the NEW AmEx attitude. Needless to say, knowing their attitude towards customers and unprofessionalism (back dated letters to allow rip offs) - I've decided to hellwith my credit - I will NOT pay them their new interest rates nor their new mimimum payment... and iff they send it to collections I'll just stop paying all together. Two canplay their silly ass games.

Credit Line Reduction/Card Denial
I have been an American Express customer for 12 years, perfect history, perfect credit and have had almost all of their cards at some point in time. They decided to take upon themselves to reduce my credit to almost nothing and causing me a headache to say the least when trying to make an important purchase for my biz. Their only excuse is they are protecting themselves from risk. BS!!! They are taking their problems out on good. loyal customers. Now I can't get ANY card from them because I show a "negative" in their system due to credit reduction. I hate AMEX and their poor business practices and will cancel the cards and NEVER accept their card with my merchant services...I SAY CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT!!!

Change in Agreement without Notification
We have had a card member with American Express since 1999. We started using their flex pay account and have had this account for a while. I noticed that the payment amount was changing but not for the better. In May 2009, my monthly payment was $198.00 and after paying a little over $400.00 of the account my currecnt monthly payment is $216.00. When I called today to questions the payment amount increase, I was told that they change the way they calculate the payment from 2% of the amount due to 1% plus the interest. When asked if I received a letter concerning the change John placed me on hold and when he came back on the line I noticed he started a recording of our conversation and said, no, I do not see where a letter has been mailed. John also stated that we this information was on the agreement which was on page 2 however, I noted that the agreement we agreed to was the 2% and was not notified.
First, I am outraged that we weren't notified in the first place and secondly this is the second change that American Express has made to our accout with out notification which I guess you could say was the straw to break the camels back.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
