Refund policy
We went into American Freight on May 18, 2011 and picked out several items that we wanted delivered the end of June or beginning of July. The salesperson said that wasn't a problem because one of the living room sets was still on order from the manufacturer and wouldn't be there for about 2 more weeks. We never discussed that we were doing a layaway plan and since this was our first (and last) time shopping there we didn't realize that's how this company works. I originally planned to pay for everything, but thought I shouldn't since everything wasn't in stock. I put $1000 down and the salesgirl asked when in June I'd be paying the balance, I said the 1st week. During the Memorial Day weekend my husband and I decided to cancel the order and wait on the furniture until after we get moved. We went back to the store on May 31st to cancel the order and was told we could only receive store credit for our down payment. No refunds after 10 days on layaways! I explained that we didn't do a layaway and he said if you paid some down and still owe money then that's a layaway. I told him store credit wasn't acceptable and asked for the corporate office phone. He gave me the number to the regional manager, Jessie 740-833-5897. He said the same thing...no refunds after 10 days. My husband explained to him that we weren't told it was a layaway or we would have made sure we understood the policy. He was VERY RUDE and no help at all. Ultimately he gave us another number to someone "above him". Susan 740-363-2222 (direct number to corporate in Delaware, OH) and said that was as far as we would get. I called Susan and she was also VERY RUDE! She said they assume their consumers are smart enough to read their receipt and know the policy. I argued with her for several minutes and she told me the same thing...store credit only after 10 days. I told her she had the worst customer service of any company I'd ever dealt with and hung up on her. We returned to the store on June 4, 2011 to again request a refund. This was a different person and he said the same thing...no refunds after 10 days. When my husband explained that we weren't told we were entering a layaway plan he said, "It's on your receipt and it shows in the fine print you have 10 days for a refund." My husband told the customers in the store to check out the BBB and see the 540 complaints against this company over the last 3 years. The salesman got very upset and told us we had to leave if we were going to do that. We left and went to the Hilliard, OH store and my husband went in and found the 1 customer shopping and told them to make sure they checked out the BBB before they made a purchase.
This company is not out anything in this transaction! They didn't special order anything for us and we never took any merchandise. We simply changed our mind and want our down payment back. I've filed a complaint with the BBB and they've already sent the complaint to American Freight. We are calling the corporate office and leaving voicemails until we get some action.
This is the WORST retail experience I've ever had! DO NOT SHOP AMERICAN FREIGHT!! THE SAVINGS ISN'T WORTH THE POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SCAM PRACTICES THEY HAVE!!

Stay away
I recieved a phone call on 6/26/2011 at 6:21 pm from Mr.Stephen Joel Belford owner and president of American Freight.First Mr.Belford called me on his cell phone and it came thru as a private number.This was my first indicator that I was being called by a slime ball.Second he made a threat that he was going to sue me for harassment pertaining to several postings on the internet about him and his company American Freight.Third he then hung up leaving no return phone number.Another sign of a slime ball.

I returned his phone call today and contacted his office as any professional would and left my number for him to call me back.Once again he called back on a private cell phone number just like the slime ball he is. Mr.Belford is the type of individual that says everything and dosen't allow the individual at the other end of the line to say much of anything then he hangs up.From everything that I know about individuals of his mind set he suffers from wanting to be in complete control of people and having a self esteem problem.I've found this person to be rude and arrogant both of the times I have the unpleasurable experience of talking with him on the phone.

Mr.Belford assumes alot with out facts or evidence and he has just proven it by his assumption and threats to me personally because he thinks I'm the one that has posted statements about him and American Freight.

It's obvious Mr.Belford dosen't know how to do anything but threaten people when he dosen't like what they say about him. He is quick when it comes to spouting words out of his mouth but the mind dosen't seem to operate very well with his mouth otherwise he wouldn't hang the phone up on people he has called so quickly.Mr. Belford appears to be the type of individual that's assumes he can intimidate and steam roll right over people when he feels his backed into a cornor. Like a scared dog he barks loud but dosen't have the A_ _ to back it up and he knows this, that's why he barks so loud. I really feel sorry for this misguided individual and anyone that works for him let alone the public.

My personal opinion is the public and potential employee's should think twice before spending your money with this company or working for this company.

If this progresses any further than Mr.Belfords bark I will publish further what he is up to. Right now there is no telling how far Mr.Belford might take this because he sounded very mad and frustrated on the phone and *** people do *** things against people now days. This guy could be a threat to my life but only time will tell.

Rip off
We purschased a Futon for my 17 yr old son mid June, after the first week one of the legs came off. My husband put it back on, then 3 weeks later 2 more legs came off. After dealing with an *** at the store she said it was defected to bring it back, long story they would not take it because of a couple stains. My complaint is the legs wont stay on. They insulted my common sense and refused to take it back, so now I have a $250 addition to my burn pile out back. I called the corporate office who stands by there policy. So buyer beware you will get screwed on the deal if your furniture breaks for any reason. Dont buy from them spend the extra money an buy better quality.

bad product, no refund
I went in to buy a bedroom set. I had seen the commericals and decided to give it a try. This was my first time buying furniture. This was a huge mistake. They said they wouldn't get the furniture in until the next week, it took a while but we did get the furniture. However, they did not have the right dresser and were suppose to bring it back. Never happened, I wasn't happy with the furniture I received, there were knicks and scraps. When I called and said I wanted my money back they said they do not refund and gave me some stupid "zero to hero" policy about waiting 30 days for new furniture. After I decided to keep it they came back only to pick the furniture back up! Two weeks later and I still haven't received the dresser, they even went as far as to tell my mother they had one in stock and were going to look it over before they sent it. So, they finally send one and its their FLOOR MODEL! It's a piece of crap, dented and knicked, and didn't even send the hardware to attach the mirror with it. The delivery people then said to wait 30 days until they could bring a new dresser and take back the floor model. I am so upset with the company and quality that I have received, I knew I wasn't getting perfect furniture but I expected something more then this. Now, I have to try to figure out how to get my money back, I can't seem to find a number to corporate and the sales people and managers at the store are worthless. I will NEVER recommend this store to ANYONE, it really is a shame that they are okay with taking money from someone and not delivering a quality product.

scam artists
In just one week of employment with American Freight Furniture, (AFF), I saw furniture removed from the warehouse floor and wrapped and delivered to the customer, who had been promised furniture 'brand new in the wrapper'. I was also directed to overcharge a customer a price other than the one quoted; told by my manager that the customer 'would never notice'. Well, he did notice because I wordlessly pointed to the 10.00 overcharge on his receipt, and made eye contact with him as I pointed to the total so he would catch it. The manager apologized to the customer for the 'mistake' and refunded his money.

Both managers at the Lexington store swear and curse at employees. One of them habitually slams clipboards and throws fits like a three year old, as well as smokes in the warehouse. In fact, he asked me if I was a 'big mouth' because he didn't want me to report him for smoking. As a brand new employee, I made some computer errors, which is to be expected. Nothing I did was hard to fix; very minor stuff and the sales were not affected. He referred to my mistakes as 'f*ck ups', and over the course of the week three different customers, one male and two females asked my why I allowed myself to be spoken to that way, and also said it was grossly unprofessional behavior and customers let alone employees should never have to hear it.

After day four when I had a fairly clear assessment of the dishonesty, lack of professionalism and complete lack of management ability on the part of both co-managers, I began to take some notes. I have the phone number of a customer who was shipped used merchandise when he paid for new. I am going to contact the State's Attorney Office, as well as the EEOC. AFF has ensured that it is difficult to find contact information for the corporate HQ, but I am sure the SA's office will have no difficulty. The BBB has multiple complaints and mine will be one more. It was sickening to listen to one of the managers go on about his planned sexual escapades. It was hard to believe any woman would even be interested in the wrinkled little mousy guy, but that is beside the point.

Please please please do not buy furniture from this company. The doors to all their stores should be closed permanently. I don't believe there is a way to prove that their furniture is overstocks, or 'unclaimed freight'. I was told much of it is made expressly for AFF.

Caveat emptor, people!

furniture
I bought an $800 couch 3 months ago and I still haven't seen my couches. Everytime I call them they say "it will be in in about 7-14 days" Iv'e called about 5 times so far and I've benn up there about 5 times also. I'm really getting mad. Also I have another account with them for bedroom furniture but I told them I wanted to cancel it because they obviously can't do their job right. And they told me they don't give refunds. However when I first asked about that a long time ago they said they did. I'm really getting mad about this.
