AHS-certified technician damages dishwasher and now it's my problem
I recently had a problem with my dishwasher's control panel. The control unit needed replaced. AHS dispatched a local technician from JGG Electronics and Appliances in Pittsburgh. The technician was very rude and had considerable difficulty figuring out how to take off the front of the dishwasher. When I offered a suggestion he became defensive and in frustration forcefully removed the front cover of the dishwasher. Since I had a previous technician look at the issue, I knew that the front cover did not need to be removed. I tried to politely suggest that to the technician and his response was "I got this, I got this" in a rude manner. The front cover of the dishwasher was removed, but it did not allow him access to the control panel unit. After 10 minutes of fiddling around and saying "I work on dishwashers all the time", he figured out that he just needed to remove a few screws and off popped the control panel.
When the technician removed the control panel, he broke several plastic tabs that held the panel in place. I commented on this to him, but he ignored me. When putting the dishwasher back together, he could not remember how to put several of the parts back in the right place. I turned my head for a minute and those parts disappeared, so I'm not even sure he put them back in their proper place.
After installing the new control panel, he asked me to test it and it worked properly. However, the control panel cover was not installed correctly and was loose. Given that the technician was clearly angry at this point, I left that go and he left the premise.
After this experience, I contacted AHS to make them aware of the issue and ask for their advice. They said that the technicians they license are not their responsibility when damage occurs and that I've have to contact the business to seek a damage claim. I explained to the AHS representative that the business was a sole proprietor that ran his own business and that it would mean that the person I'd be calling was the angry technician. I also expressed my concern with how unprofessional, incompetent, aggressive, and angry the technician was and that I wasn't comfortable having him in my home again.
They researched the issue to see what they could do. In the meantime, I contacted the technician to notify them of the problem. I called the company's main number and got the same unprofessional technician. He argued that he didn't break anything and that all those tabs just fell out of the dishwasher. To quote him, "you're wasting my time" and then he hung up on me.
In a nutshell, AHS placed that company on my "blacklist" so that I they wouldn't be repairing anything for me again. Sears was the other company that they contacted, but Sears refused the job. So now there are no other companies in my area that can come out and fix the dishwasher. Yes, you read that correctly, there are only two AHS-certified companies that can fix dishwasher's in the greater Pittsburgh region. Effectively I have a warranty that cannot be used.
Thanks AHS, big help. AHS is an unreliable company that does not protect the consumer and I would highly recommend avoiding this company. Also, I'd recommend against using JGG Electronics and Appliances in Pittsburgh unless you want something more broke than it already is along with a bad attitude.

AHS refuse to reimburse my bill
During last summer when the temperature was over 100 degrees our home Air Condition Unit went out. I called AHS who said they will call back in a couple of hours with a number for an AC repair company, but never did. I called back and the girl on the phone told me if I can find my own repair person that they will reimburse me after my AC is fixed. Well, I found a company who charged me an extra $75 for being a Sunday, but fixed the AC. I called AHS back after the repair person left to tell my bill waas $ 715!!! But they told me that I should have called first before I got my AC fixed, but I told them that their CSR told me all I had to do is find someone and get it fix and call afterwards...I even repaeted what she told me and there was noting about me calling first to get an okay. I demand AHS to listen to their so-call recordings of when I called but they they stuck to what they said. And another thing I called three other repair companies that refuse to do business with me because of AHS until I finally found one that would. I gave up trying to get my mooney back from AHS and will not recommened them to anyone.

unable to cancel the policy
I've been with American Home Shield (AHS) for over two years for both of my houses. I'm selling one house, so I have to cancel the policy, which is a month to month policy. I have made several phone calls to request for cancellation of policy, but I either get the run around, placed on hold forever, or never received any phone call back. My last attempt is when I called AHS again and, upon connected through an agent, I informed her that I've called several times and as soon I as mentioned cancellation, I havel then be placed on hold again and no one will pick up the call ... it's almost like talking to a puppet!
By the way, AHS will ask you to sign up with them using credit card, so they can easily access your money without your consent. I got real frustrated and called my Credt Card company (A/X), then A/X has stopped all payments and dispute the last payment as well. By them acting like jerks and cons, I initially was only cancelling one policy because I have to, but now I'm cancelling both policies because I wanted to. STAY AWAY FROM AMERICAN HOME SHIELD (AHS). THEY ARE CROOKS!

Incompetent contractors
This summer I called AHS to place a services call for A/C repair. The unit was leaking. This is the cover letter sent to Mr. Crawford, head of AHS. I had sent pictures and a 13 page detailed report of how 3 contractors could not diagnose the leaking drain pan and how after 4 weeks and 100 degree temps needed to find my own contractor. AHS would not reimburse me the $425 for the repair.
The lack of customer service afforded to me by their reimbursement department and a declined response letter was very disappointing. They pay mostly substandard contractors a fixed rate and when the repair is more than the fixed rate these subs do the very least or nothing at all. i suggest all readers to find another company.
Dear Mr. Crawford:
Following this letter is another correspondence I sent to your AHS Reimbursement request department a few weeks ago. I received a call from the Reimbursement call center on 6/9. I have to say the scripted response and lack of customer mediation to the request could only point to absolute focus on bottom line numbers and mirrors the many negative postings on various Internet sites.
As you read the below, I can not believe 4 weeks of time and 3 A/C vendors could not diagnose a problem and correct a condensation tray leak issue. In Phoenix, where it is 100 degrees, A/C repair is vital, especially in a rental unit. I had no choice; even after a second call escalation, to hire my own company for resolution. All indications point to the prior 3 A/C contractors being able to correct the issue. These contractors most likely evaluated the flat rate they would receive as less than the cost of the repair. That should not be my issue as I have been a customer for many years.
I am contacting you to escalate resolution of the documented complaint and as such am requesting your approval for reimbursement of the following:
1. Reimbursement of $425 and,
2. The waiving of two of the service fees for these three vendors. One contractor, [name withheld] found that the unit needed Freon and that was addressed, however the original leak problem still persisted.
