Scam
This was a move from Florida to Illinois. First of all, we were assured if we packed ourselves there would be no further charges, What a lie. We were charged over an additional $ 1000.00 for " required packaging ". Then they forgot the washer and dryer. We were assured a certain date for delivery, and after numerous calls they arrived 10 days later. Then they told us there was a weight limit on our road and it would cost us $ 500.00 more to rent a smaller truck. I told them no way and they threatened to charge me $ 350.00 if they had to keep it on their truck. We were finally forced to have them unload at a truck stop in the snow and mud 5 miles from our house. We then had to load on a pick up truck and make numerous trips to and from our house. 3/4 of the boxes had been crushed even though marked fragile. So many things we broken and crushed including some expensive antiques. Public beware. This is a scam and one of the worst experiences I have ever endured.

Breakage
Never use this company!!! Initially, they are very professional on the phone while trying to earn your business. However, once you leave a deposit of $200 you're told that the only payment they accept at pick up and delivery is cash or postal money order. If you cancel your order they charge you another $350 for doing so.
The people who came to pick up our furniture were great!!! All furniture wrapped carefully, etc. We packed our own boxes. At that point we find out that this truck won't drive our things from Florida to North Carolina, but will drop off our things in Jacksonville, FL, at which point our things will be transferred to an 18-wheel truck for the rest of the journey, which took 8 days. When our things arrived, many of the boxes were bent and crushed. The furniture sustained no damage. The movers were supposed to take back with them all the packing they used for our furniture, however, as we discovered later, they left some cardboard and bubble wrap behind which we have to take to the dump and pay for.
I place the blame on the personnel who work in the office for not being up front while trying to solicit our business. The movers themselves do the best they can, but it appears that there is a lack of training on how to handle the shipment in a more careful manner.

Service
First, they claimed that our house is 1200 square feet, which it was not. Upon review of the measurements, our house was actually 925 square feet. We were charged $500 extra for supplies and they didn't even pack everything! We had to make 4 additional trips to the house with two cars in order to gather everything they did not take. I understand that they can not haul anything liquid but the amount of items that were left is completely ridiculous.
Second, they were supposed to take a thirty minute lunch. They left our house at 2:37 p.m. and did not arrive at the new house until 3:17 p.m. - please note, the distance between the two locations is less than fifteen minutes drive time in a single direction. The lack of respect to time was also evident in constant texting on his phone by Paulie which my husband and I witnessed several times. They also had my husband sign the paper for a total of 9 hours for the job, but we did not receive 9 hours of work.
We also repeatedly asked Joe not to smoke while in the truck with my families possessions, as my daughter and I have severe asthma. He continued to do so, regardless of our requests and finally just sat on the edge of the truck and called a five minute break.
Upon unloading the truck, my husband and I assisted so that we could get back on our time schedule. Paulie shattered the entry way light fixture with a bookcase. When we inquired as to what we are supposed to do about it, Joe said to contact the website and file a claim. I called to lodge these complaints the next day once our phone service was connected and was told it has to all be in writing, which I did.
Several items of significant value were damaged due to poor packing procedures (not wrapping items and placing heavy items on top of delicate/fragile items). Two of the items broken are irreplaceable due to age and being limited edition Disney Cast Member only items. The total for these damages is close to $1000.
Our move was originally quoted at $1138 and it ended at $1709. I understand that there things that are unexpected but I can not fathom how it can be misquoted by $600. The customer service was nonexistent, efficiency was unheard of - We were overcharged, under delivered and incurred damages that their company is responsible for compensating.
The response I received says they will compensate $6.60 based on their insurance coverage - this is robbery!!

Scammers and Cons
Recently, my wife and I booked the American Van Lines East moving company to move us across town, approximately 15 miles. After receiving numerous quotes, we decided to utilize their services only after speaking with Mary, their booking rep multiple times. Our main concern was on their quote and its terminology. The portion of the quote was the piece that talked about packaging supplies and that we would have to pay additional cost if we needed to further protect our belongings. She assured us that all furniture pieces are wrapped in moving pads and everything needed to move was included in the quote and unless we needed more packaging supplies, we’d be good to go. The only thing we would be responsible for moving or paying would be glass table tops if we elected to wrap them. After conversing with my wife and Mary, we determined that we could pack all delicates and be responsible for these ourselves. Little did we know……….
Well come day of the move, the movers show up an hour past the agreed appointment. The foreman of the job assesses what needed to be moved and says that he needs to go around and figure out if any extra packaging materials are needed. I reminded him that Mary and I spoke about this specifically on two occasions and agreed that all materials needed for the move were covered as we needed no specialty materials and all our belongings were packed and ready. Thirty minutes later, the foreman comes back and says that we will need $299.00 in packaging materials.
These consisted of the following all NOT INCLUDED IN THE quote of $410.01.
Mattress Cover to cover 1 Queen mattress/box springs and 1 full bed and box springs : $150.00
When asked if they could utilize the furniture pads in the truck they said if the mattress gets dirty, then the insurance was voided and they do not feel comfortable with this. Without this they could not move my mattress.
Shrink wrap for the couch and love seat : $48.00
They could not bring the couch and chair without this and mattress pads alone would not work
Bubble wrap for the bakers racks that has one glass shelf that is 3 foot by 1 foot and the little bit of glass on our TV stand : $60.00
TV box : $18.00
They could not move the 27 inch tube TV without this. If it broke in the move, once again the insurance would not cover this and would not be able to move this.
Tape, $4.50 per roll times 14 rolls = $63.00
This would be used to wrap the mattress pads that were "included" in our move, what was not included was the tape to secure those pads to the furniture.
Summarizing their totals, they said unless I agreed to these amounts, that no insurance would be honored for any of the pieces and the majority I would have to move myself.
After all this was said to me, I again reminded him that we were re-assured on two separate phone calls that all this was included. The foreman calls Mary and now is said from her otherwise. Please keep in mind, we have already paid an $82.00 deposit.
After an hour of back and forth conversation, no moving had been done yet so I decided to cancel this debacle. Mary then says, if you cancel on me I will charge your card $350.00 whether you like it or not. In disgust, I advised her not to do so or there would be repercussions. She then said it was too late, she already did good luck. Please keep in mind she did this during or before this phone call and had full intent of doing this regardless.
So here I stand today, mover-less and $432.00 charged to my credit card for services that were never rendered not to mention the "just tell them what they want to hear" phone calls to this company before going with them.
According to one of the movers, he says this happens ALL THE TIME and they cannot stand it. The company does not care as they charge you regardless and let you roll the dice with your credit card company. These types of business practices are not only immoral but fraudulently unlawful as well. My hope is that nobody ever has to go through this again and never utilizes this company as the next person scheduled will ultimately feel the same way. As it stands, I have disputed both charges and am awaiting finalization. If the disputes do not go my way, I fully intent on filing civil suit against them. Businesses like this should not be allowed to do these practices without consequence.
