Predatory Car Lender
Please do not get a car loan through Americredit. If a car dealership recommends them, please run the opposite direction. They have Payday loan interest rates on their car loans and finance overpriced cars.

No Gap Offered/will not cooperate
We paid timely on our loan, new we had an awful interest rate, but kept plugging away for 3 years. A week ago we were in a horrific accident, and the car was deemed a total loss. Americredit gave me 2 weeks to pay another payment on the loan, or to pay it off. Of course, the payoff was more than my actual loan total on our bill, and because of the severity of the accident, our paperwork was in our glove box, which we couldn't get to due to the accident being far from our home, and a few children hospitalized and top priority.

Our insurance company offered a much lower payout than I owe, so I contacted Americredit to see what we could do. They stated we have no gap insurance, and refused to mail me an original contract. I explained I needed to see this, and they continued to refuse my request. Our car dealer who was a major Chevy dealer, went out of business, so that didn't help matters.

In fighting with our insurance company on the payoff, Americredit began to harrass us for payment or payoff. I explained that I was fighting the insurance company FOR THEM AND US, in order to at the very least come out even on this loss. We had no vehicle, four small children and my husband needed back and forth to work; it wasn't in our best interest to be almost $3, 000 in the negative on this loan, and unable to get another one for another replacement vehicle. Americredit kept on arguing they needed payment now, and I explained that was fine, however, the balance due, they'd never get; they'd be bleeding a rock, so to speak, and that once I agreed on the settlement with the insurance company, I was done. Report to credit, I don't care at this point.

Americredit gave me another 10 business days to try. I also explained to them that the airbags never deployed, a failure, no doubt, and Chevy was trying to locate the vehicle to inspect the failure to settle with us, too. Our insurance company kept on pressuring me to sign the rights of the title away, get the payment to Americredit, and allow them to scrap the vehicle. Every time that Chevy went to a storage site that our insurance company sent them to, the vehicle was moved. Four times now total moved. There are a lot of things that don't add up, and I'm no expert.

My issue with Americredit is two-fold. One, they refuse me a contract copy to review the gap. Two, a month ago our balance was 11, 480. I paid $400, balance then $11.080. My payoff suddenly became $11, 494. ???!???

Americredit reps just start talking fast and in circles, which I explained made no sense. Our balance includes everything, how can a little over $400 be just...lost?! Ugh, what a mess.

They did offer me to go out and find another vehicle, it had to be equal to the payoff offered by our insurance company. The payoff was $8600. So I had to find another vehicle that was $8600 or less, had less mileage than ours did, was greater in age, and in great shape. Heh...and if I did find it, I could just replace the totalled vehicle with this new one and finish the loan off. Yeah, right. So, I'd be paying in essence twice over for one vehicle, and they'd make more money. Not.

I would never recommend them to anyone, even in hardship. I've found local buy here pay here much better to deal with than these people. You miss a payment by a day, you get anywhere from 8-10 calls a day, at home, work, wherever.

Once when we were on vacation I let Americredit know that we were, and that as soon as we got home, and my husband got his paycheck, I'd call in the payment. They noted the account and agreed, it was about 2 weeks later than due. I believed this. We came home, husband went back to work, and all day long a tow truck is circling our home. I called Americredit to make the payment to be told that the car was being repo'd and I had to make 2 payments NOW. My husband pulls up to the house for lunch to end up being harrassed and threatened by the tow driver. Husband pulls into our driveway, and closes the gates, for the tow driver to begin to open the gates. I happened to have a 200 pound mastiff I let out of the kitchen and she went barrelling to the gates, and the tow driver proceeded to get into the truck, and pull out a crowbar and swing at my dog. IN my yard. The fool didn't happen to notice my husband is a police officer, and found himself being escorted in a pretty flashing car from his partner pulling up and arresting the man for trespassing and attacking the dog with a weapon. What a mess. All the while the woman on the phone with me from Americredit kept saying, 'ok, give me your checking account or credit card information'. Bah. I understand they have work to do, but when it comes to the other end of customer satisfaction as well as working with the customer on requests, it doesn't happen.

I refuse to sign anything over from the insurance company for payoff until Americredit sends me the contract. Let the car rot somewhere, if Amercredit wants to repo it, by all means they can.

No integrity or honesty
My wife and I purchased a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica in October 2007. When we divorced in March 2009 she was awarded the car and was ordered to take over payments and refinance. By May she had not made a payment. I was told by Americredit I had to be paying for it, which I understood but I really thought she would refinance.

I got the car back in May 2009 and was approximately 4 or 5 payments behind. I worked to catch up the payments and was one payment behind when I was involved in a car accident on July 10, 2009. The car was totalled. I paid my next car payment which meant I was still one payment behind. The insurance company sent Americredit $7, 400 towards the car leaving me with the balance of about $4, 000.

Americredit began calling me three times a day so that they could get the one payment I was behind. I asked them why the $7, 400 that State Farm gave them did not at least catch that one payment up since they did recieve a large sum of money. They stated that in order for it to cover the one payment it had to come out of my pocket.

I then recieved a letter informing me that I had 20 days to send Americredit $4, 400 or they would be taking legal action. I attempted to work with them but they want the money in full.

I am a single dad of two young boys, work full-time, and am a full-time college student and Americredit is a company that is only in the business to rip people off and to lie to their clients.

Uncooperative
Me and my husband have had our share of financial problems and Americredit has been one of the worst companies to deal with when we needed help with setting up different payment plans ect.

They would not let us refinance our cars and called and harrassed us consistently. Their interest rates are way out of line and the company is to big and owns to much of the car financing market.

Other consumers beware. If you do car shopping and the dealership says Americredit run fast.

I can't wait till my car is paid off, as they will never hear from me again.

Auto Loan Overcharge
I purchased my new car the middle of August 2003. The dealership arranged financing through AmeriCredit. The first payment invoice (which provided my account number, address for sending payment, etc.) was sent to me mid-September with a payment due date of October 5. The invoice indicated this was payment #1 of 72. At the end of my contract the final payment was 1 1/2 times the original payment amount. The company has called me numerous times at work, leaving messages on a peer's voicemail. They said they didn't want me to be surprised by the final payment amount, to which I informed them they were too late. When I eventually called them (I was NOT late in making the payment/s), they informed me that my first payment was actually due SEPTEMBER 5. At that time I informed them that it was they, not I, that had neglected to give me proper information for a September 5, 2003, payment. Had they sent me a payment coupon, I would have made a payment in September. I had no alternative but to wait for them to send me the appropriate paperwork. In the past several weeks, they have called my office 3-5 times daily, always a canned message with the first part missing, never giving a name as to whom the call is for, etc.

I consider AmeriCredit to be completely unethical, and will NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN. No one can afford to accept credit/do business with a company like this that preys on its clients.

Scam and cheating
I have had a car with americredit for 3 years, My husband is in the military and he will be deploying in Sept he has also been on unemployment for a year since he came back from basic training. We got way behind on our payments and eventually realized we can't pay for it. I told americredit about 2 weeks ago I couldn't pay for it and they could come and get it. and they call me about 20 times a day from different numbers. I choose not to answer the phone because I already told them my intentions of not paying anymore because we can't afford it . well now they have went through the phone book and are calling my neighbors about my bill. the neighbors have been told they were needing to get ahold of us because my kids have been sick. or my phone was diconnected. I don't even know my neighbors phone number. Is this not illegal to contact neighbors who are not listed as refrences to talk about my bill I owe them? I owe alot of bills and this is the first time I have ever had a bill collector start calling neighbors listed in the phone book. I am looking into sueing them if this is possible someone please let me know what you think I should do, doesn't this violate hippa laws?

Auto Payment
I have had my loan with americredit since 2005. I baught a brand new 2005 Mazda. Since then till now I have worked hard to get my credit back to good standing as it used to not be the best (Thus why my loan got taken by Americredit and not a real lender).

I have been making small extra payments on my car since 2005 no problem. have a 20k loan down to around 6-7k right now. I sent them a check for right around $2064.00. I contacted a Customer Service rep before hand and was assured. I was due for Aug payment so 421.86 woudl go towards August payment. the remaining 1642.14 would be applied to the principal.

All was good, Then I notice they applied the entire amount to principal. Which I know, in the long run really helps me and does nothing for Americredit. Gets me out of their grimey grips faster. But of that 2064, 421 was for my August payment. I thought "No big deal, I was assured it would be applied correctly and is an easy fix to have re applied either way".

Called them up after several email attempts got ignored. I was told they would not re apply the funds. I am not late for August payment that was due on Aug. 6th. I was told it is against their policy to re apply teh funds and that when you send in a large amount it always go's to principal. They also told me that no-one in their office told me it would be applied that way and that me telling them a lie like that would not get it done that way.

I'm all for paying the loan off sooner and I know all to prin. helps me in the long run. But I do not have the money to make Aug payment now because that was included with my large payment I made. I don't have 421.86 do make Aug payment.

They refuse to make the payment. I have even gone to the BBB in Forth Worth with no luck. They gave the same generic answer "we will not re apply the funds to suite you". Even if it is policy they least they can do since I was told it would be applied correctly (one month payment with extra to prin.). They can at least do it as a courtesy and next time I know to make my payment THEN send the extra after it's been applied as opposed to sending it in one lump sum together.. Nope.

They have treated me like garbage. A rep has outright called me a liar about being told it would be applied to Aug due and the rest to prin. Hell, It's my money. They refuse to even refund it back to me even.

I don't want to be a customer of Amercredit anymore then they want me as a customer apparntly. I advise NO-ONE do business with them. This company, and other lenders with the same poor buisness practises are the reason so many hard working Americans are in so much financial trouble right now.

Instead of treating me like a deadbeat customer who doesn't pay his bills. Treat me with some respect since I've done it in return with making every payment on time since 2005 and maknig small extra payments which have never had a problem being applied correctly then (even though they was done online and this incident was sent as a check).

Amercredit is a horrible horrible company. They have horrible buisness practises and they treat their good customers worse them most collection agencies treat the deadbeats they try to collect money from.

I plan on refinancing out of this bank now that my credit as improves and Just want to let everyone know.

IF YOU PAY MORE TO PRINCIPAL ALONG WITH THE MONTHLY DUE.. NO NOT DO IT ALL TOGETHER.. FIRST PAY THE MONTH DUE. THEN WAIT FOR IT TO POST AND CLEAR.. THEN SEND IN YOUR EXTRA PINCIPAL PAYMENT..

Otherwise they will do what they did to me.

The last email I got was from Cassie Neighbors in the Legal Department of Amercredit who pretty much told me that I need to contact Collections or they will submit the file to have my car repossesed since Aug payment is not made.. The payment that was due 4 days ago. The payment that was already made with a $2, 064 check of my hard earned money.

Thank you Americredit for taking food from my kids mouth. Since I have no choice but to do something to make this payment do avoid my car being taken since I need that to get to work.
