Predatory lending
When purchasing a vehicle through a dealership be very careful of what you are signing. Pay close attention not to JUST the payment amount but the term of the loan. They find what is important to you (low payment) and keep you focused on how great it is to have such a low payment etc. You then in turn do not pay attention to the term of 96 months on a used vehicle? Credit was good so you get a good interest rate except that half way through the loan you can't even re-finance because the vehicle isn't worth that much. No gap insurance available now because you just paid attention to what was left on the loan. Thought you had maybe 1 year at the most. Try 4 1/2 yrs.

I will never recommend them to anyone!
We purchased a vehicle in 2004 and financed through Americredit. We made our monthly payments on time until Oct 07. We got a month behind and then picked back up and again made payments. My husband and I noticed that we had not received an invoice for quite a while but were not concerned we were making the payments and knew that we would get around to calling one day. In January 2009 we fell behind again but were going to catch back up this past Friday. Thursday a tow truck appeared in the yard and they advised me they were there for the car. I was surprised since I had not heard from AmeriCredit either by phone or mail ever. I call them only to find out they had charged off our account in 2007. Not sure what that meant since all cars I had ever heard of being taken back were repo'ed. I asked where the money that we had been paying went and they advised on the charged off debt amount. I know this sounds like I am stupid but I have never heard of an auto finance company charging off a car, allow the person to continue to pay on it and carry insurance on it. When I ask if I could do a check over the phone to bring it current she told me they needed 6300.00 or they were going to take the car. I have driven the car for over 202, 000 miles and it had seen better days so we told them to come and get it. (It actually broke down on my daughter while she was going to work that day) They then advised me that we had the option to buy the vehicle for what they appraised it at and would call me with the opportunity. Not sure I have ever heard of this. No notification in 07 that there was an issue with the account and nothing prior to coming to get it. Go figure. I will never recommend them to anyone!!!

Scam
Americredit sucks flat out. They claim i have a simple interest loan and i can not find it any where on my contract that states this. A payment was made and they lost it, so they claimed it was 92 days late and if they would have credited my account with the payment that was made it would have been 62 days late. So they basically reposed my car for no reason. Americredit and there repo company are flat out rude.

Harrassment
We get up to 20 calls a day from Americredit for a loan we don't even have. We have told them that we do not have any loans through them and they still call. Today alone since 8:30am I have recieved 5 calls from them. The numbers they call from our electronic anwhich tells you a representative cannot be reached on this number. It is harrassment and they should be able to be sued for this. I'm looking into it. They call every day even after telling them that we are not the people they are trying to reach.

Terrible experience
I paid my car off a year early; payoff ended in a $0 balance. Americredit reported to the credit bureau that I was late making two payments. This was done after the vehicle was paid off. I didn't find this out until I went to purchase a new vehicle. When I called, I was not given an explanation as to why this had happened.

third party disclosure
I am late this month on my car loan with Americredit; the next day after being late they call every hour of the day; every day even on Sundays. Yesterday they called my son and left a message for him to call them about my loan. Today another collector called leaving a full detailed message to my son about my loan. This is illegal and called third party disclosure. How awful and embarrassing.

Auto payoff went up $800
After I got my truck loan in late 2006, I began making large monthly payments, or when ever I had extra money. After making the large payment, the next monthly statement said no payment was needed for that month, so I calculated my payments in advance to March of this year, when I was to receive a large sum of money, and planned to pay the vehicle off at that time.I make a lump sum payment in july 2007, that should have taken me to march of 2008. I regularly checked the payoff on the truck after each payment and it had dropped to $7379 and stayed that way for months., but in january I received a statment saying I had to make a payment or have it reported to the credit agency. I couldn, t make the payment so they deferred two payments till march, after asking me if I was going to pay the loan off when I got my large sum, which I said probably. In march I made a standard payment, but when I checked the payoff, it had gone up $800, and when I questioned them about it, they said it was a simple interest loan. I don't understand how a loan can increase when you make regular and large payments to get the loan DOWN. Can you please help, as I can't get a straight answer from Americredit.

Fraud and lies
I have been reading all of these reports about Americredit, and am relieved that I am not crazy!! 2 years ago I bought my daughter a car and the dealership put me thru this company. I should have known that things would not go well when they lost my first money order payment!! Believe me it went down hill from there!!! We had the car for almost one year. In the 7th month I became very ill and spent almost a month in the hospital. I did get behind in my payments (60 days).

These people were ruthless, but I finally made one payment and made arrangements to make the other and the next payment. That very day when my daughter came home from school, she no more got out of the care in front of the house when they screeched up and towed it away right in front of her. I looked over my contract and found that I had taken out the insurance for death and disability, and it also covered illnesses, that after calling the insurance co, found they would cover. I called Americrap and they told me they did not have to honor that insurance and even though I had made arrangements that morning, that now that they had the car I would have to pay an ungodly amount to get it back.

After finally finding out where the car was, I too had to pay to get our own things back, a lot of things were not there, and they had been thrown in trash bags, sat on the floor and the dog that was 'guarding' the place had urinated on most of the bags. While talking with the person that recovered the car for Americrap he said to me ' I was kinda glad to here you were not gonna try to get the car back cause they said they would make a deal with me to buy it and it would make a great car for my daughter.'

I actually had intentions of trying to get my daughter's car back, but let me tell you they were not gonna let that happen and didn't. I to this day have never gotten anything saying what they sold the car for. The only thing I have gotten is a bill for 23, 000. I only financed 21, 000 and had paid for a year on it. Of course they do some kind of new math I guess, or they just gave the car away!

If there is someone out there who can help all of us that would be great!!! But anyone reading these watch out!!! Americrap will get you!!!

Awful company
I was laid off from my job in August. It was 6 weeks before I found another job. Naturally we got behind on some of our bills (including our car loan with Americredit) We have desperately tried to catch up. We are currently 1 month behind now. These other horror stories really have me worried. Americredit calls my home at least 8 - 10 times a day, even on Sundays, which really makes me mad. I finally told the lady I was tired of them calling, there was no need in 8 times a day. I have children who go to bed early. They have called as late as 9:00. I'm not trying to get by without paying, it is going to take us a little while to catch back up. Why can't they understand that?

Unethical
I called to get the payoff on my vehicle. They gave me an amount, and I sent them a check for that amount over night. They recieved it and cashed it on Juny 17th. 2008. After 30 days of not gettng my title, I call them. They tell me that I still owe them one payment. Then I prove to them that I don't and their story changes to...I owe them unpaid late fees. I ask for a full history of my account. I recieve it and even their documentation shows that I have a $0.00 balance. So I call and put in the last four of my SSN and the recording says " This account is paid in full". But yet when I talk to some one they tell tell me that they will not release the title until I pay 633.00 late payments that their own accounting shows that I don't owe. I have filed a civeil suit.
