Amerigas Reviews

Customer Service
For two years they have destroyed my property upon delivery and left the caps off. When I called to ask the price of an existing tank-they quoted me a new price rather than a price that was depreciated. The local manager, Irvin is an idiot.

Unsatisfied
I have been an Amerigas customer for 8 years. I had requested a small tank at the time. They brought me this big old tank that is an eye sore. I have been trying to get it changed out since and they keep telling me I have to pay for a new tank. Besides everything else you can smell gas and it is a safety hazard. Then they tell me they were going to change it out and that was suppose to happen 2 weeks ago...what a rip and yes they make it very hard to change companies.

Poor Customer Service
I have been with Amerigas for at least ten years. Mainly because they make it such a pain to switch that I just put up with them. I use gas for cooking, hot water and the clothes dryer. My last delivery was in March. On Aug. 26 I ordered gas and told them that I was very low. I was scheduled for a delivery on Sept. 1. I was in and out all day and by evening I realized that I had not gotten my delivery.

I called Amerigas the next morning and spoke to a very nice young women who told me that the driver had been out the previous day but was unable to make a delivery because the tank needed updating. I had no idea what she was talking about. She explained that the tank apparently needed some type of maintenance and could not be filled until it had been done.

This tank belongs to Amerigas. At no time did I receive any kind of notice saying that it required any maintenance. When I received my last delivery in March no one said to me that in July your tank will require maintenance before it can be filled again. No one from Amerigas contacted to me at any time. Isn’t Amerigas responsible for the maintenance of it’s own equipment in a manner that does not disrupt their customers service? Don’t they maintain service records that warns them well in advance that their tanks need service? Aren’t their drivers at least instructed to check and report on the maintenance and condition of their equipment before it reaches a critical stage?

Truthfully, I am disappointed but not surprised by this. This is just the latest example of how Amerigas shows such disdain for its customers.

Delivery
My husband paid for a propane gas tank delivery in the Amerigas office on August 20th. He was told the delivery would be made on Thursday, August 26th. We were away until Saturday, August 28th. Returned home and no delivery had been made. Called to complain over the weekend and told that for an additional charge we could get weekend delivery. Called on Monday, August 30th. Was told delivery would be made first thing Tuesday morning, August 31st. It is now almost the end of the business day on August 31st. Still no propane gas delivery. This company is the worst company I have ever dealt with.

Still tankless after a week
Last Monday, I went to Amerigas to have a propane tank delivered to our home. After setting up an account, and paying $320 in cash for installation and 100 gallons of propane, I set up an appointment for it to be delivered the following day. On Tuesday, they never showed up. I never recieved a phone call. At 5 pm I tried calling, but they were closed. At 8 am Wednesday morning, I called and was told there had been a gas leak, and that's why I didn't get my tank, but they would definitely be here by that evening. It is now the following Monday. I have called every two hours from Wednesday to today. My family and I have had to eat at restaurants all week. On Friday, I was refunded the installation fee, and ASSURED that I would have a tank delivered. I am Pissed, to say the least. I have requested the manager call me since last week, and he has YET to return my phone calls. I am told that the technician who does the installs is now on vacation. THIS IS NOT MY PROBLEM...PERHAPS THEY SHOULD FIND ANOTHER TECH THEN!!!

Questionable rates & service
We initiated service with Amerigas for two unvented gas log fireplaces in our 1626 sq.ft. ranch home w/crawlspace. They installed a 100-gal. tank. Now that we've been in our home for two years and experienced from one extreme to the next, I have compared our cooling and heating consumption. Our home is all electric with a central ac/heat pump system currently in good working order. Home is well insulated (blown and blanket insulation) with rating of 34R. Last summer, with pool pump for 24' round above ground pool running 24/7 and interior thermostat set at 74-75, our monthly electric bill never went above $250.(Note: Last summer was an abnormally cool one.) Now, this summer, with interior thermostat set at a constant 75 and the pool pump running only 2-3 hours per day instead of 24/7, the electric consumption for May was billed at $139.14. The most recent bill for June consumption jumped to $212.54. This increase is in part due to many warm days exceeding 90 and 95 degrees and several triple-digit days, unlike last year's milder temps. This past winter, which was one of the coldest on record in recent years, with record snowfall, the average monthly cost for electricity over a four month period (November through February) only was $177.23/1, 600.75KWH. The total billed during the time period was $708.95/6, 403KWH. It was our thinking that we could keep costs down by supplementing some of the heat costs by using the gas log fireplaces. They produce way too much heat to run more than an hour or two at most. During the early fall days we turn on one gas log fireplace during the evening for 1-2 hours, long enough to knock off the chill for remainder of the night without having to turn on the central system. During the colder months, we typically turn on one of the fireplaces for 1 or 2 hrs in the evenings, and then several times throughout the day during the weekends when we are home. They are never left burning during the night or when we're not home. In the first year with Amerigas we received a bill for a service call to repair a gas leak. Well, this was a complete surprise to us and when I phoned them they could not confirm the phone call nor could they confirm the service repair, especially since we were not home at time the work was supposedly done. The only thing they had to go on was a service ticket filled out by the driver. We should have discontinued service with Amerigas right then and there but they immediately deleted the service call and all charges dropped. From that point forward, however, the gas consumption just doesn't add up. I have gone over the bills and during the winter months (09-10) we were billed a little over $590 after they knocked off $67 for what we perceived to be an excessive bill. Maybe our thinking that running a gas log fireplace for an hour or two to offset electricity consumption is not correct. Even then, the propane consumption for a gas log fireplace that's a little over 83% for the total cost for electricity during the same time does seem excessive.

delivery
We have been using amerigas for home propane for 3 years with no problems.Normally we have thewm deliver when out propane tank is reading near 0%.They never have given us more than 190 gallons. Now all of a sudden they have this driver that whenever he is in the office he will interrupt the very polite man that has been helping us all along, and tell us he wont deliver less then 200 gallons. So we pay for 200 gallons they deliver 180-190 and the remainder just vanishes. If the driver is not in the office then we have no problem but as they have become less busy due to poor costumer service it has become rare for him not to be there. As long as they employ there driver DO NOT USE AMERIGAS IN BILLINGS MONTANA FOR ANYTHING!!!

Delivery /Customer Service
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR YOUR PROPANE GAS SERVICES AT HOME. The corporate office is often embarrased when they hear how their local offices transact business and treat their customers. Particularly, the Wyandanch office. Even the poor drivers who delivery the gas, must get an earful from each customer as the last 5 or 6 drivers we had said "We know the office staff is so unprofessional and we are treated the same way you are." I called on 12/17/09 for a gas delivery and was about to run out of gas and expressed that I thought it was too soon for me to be out of gas. They said delivery would be approximately on 12/24/09. I called three times on Christmas Eve becauase 1) we were totally out of gas and 2) it was a holiday and I was having company and NEEDED GAS! They confirmed with a driver on all three calls that it would be late in the day and I may be the last delivery but I would get gas today (12/24/09). THEY NEVER SHOWED UP OR CALLED UNTIL 12/28/2009. I called their corporate office and they were very professional but said the local office had closed and unless I had a gas leak there was nothing they could do. We went through the entire holiday week with no use of our stove or oven and had to cancel dinner at our own home. With alot of yelling and no satisfaction, we got our delivery on 12/28/09. I then ran out of gas again 3/15/10 and told them there must be a problem that their delivery should have last at least 6 months not 2.5 months. I eventually ran out of gas again and they came to check for a leak and said there was no leak and I was given a date 9 days in advance for a gas delivery and needless to say, they did not show or call. When I inquired a day after the expected delivery date, they said you did not pay your bill for the new delivery. I said "how do I know that number by osmosis? Will you bill me and will someone say something on the phone because it was never mentioned on at least 4 phone calls".

Not ONCE EVER did anyone say you must pay in advance. I have been with this company for 9 years and they always billed me and always thought they their customer service sucked but never to this level. The drivers are great.

I spent an hour on the phone with their corporate customer service to see why they said now they need pay in advance and why I am running out so soon. The representative said "This account is a mess, it looks like you were always getting 2 full tanks a year and that they stopped delivering 2 tanks almost 2 years ago but may have charged you for 2 and in fact, it does not look like the last 2 deliveries were NOT full delivery's, which would explain why you are running out of gas." She suggested I ask for the last 5 years of all my orders because she said "something is seriously not right and you need to bring it to their attention and I will do the same at the corporate level."

In order to leave them it will cost me several hundred dollars which I can not afford at this time and a few hundred more to join another company. In the meantime, another company was happy to fill up their tanks for now and reconfirmed no gas leak in the hopes to get my new business and that they will.

AMERIGAS IN WYANDANCH has the worst customer service and gas service of any company I have ever dealt with for home services.
