price-gouging
I have just had an experience with Amerigas that I think everyone should know about. Our local company charges $3.10/ 9/10 per gallon for LP gas, but when you call them to ask the price, they tell you that it is $1.79 per gallon. When ask about the extra you have to pay, they say that it is to cover repairs, insurance, etc. in case you have any leaks and such. But when you have leaks, they call you a liar, and tell you they did not say that, and they are going to charge for the repairs. I believe that this practice should be called price-gouging and should be legally stopped. I believe that I might just be the one to call them on it.

overcharging and dishonesty
After 6 years of being a customer to Amerigas, never late on paying, we asked why the price of gas they charged us was $1.20 per gallon more than their quoted price, and we were told that the extra money was to cover the expense if we ever had a leak or anything and that they would be there 24/7.We developed a leak that they said was in the line and they wanted to charge us a huge amount to fix it.When I reminded them of what they said, the girl working in that office practically called my husband and I a liar. We told them to come and get their tank out of our yard. Before they came, we had the leaks checked and it was coming from their tank, not the line at all. We went with another company who stands by all of their equipment and we are getting our fuel at $1.15 less per gallon. So I guess they did us a favor and saved us a lot of money.

overcharging
I am not sure where to go to for some help on investigating a company that I feel may have some interesting and criminal billing techniques. I am filling a compliant with the Iowa Attorney General because what they are doing is a crime.
The name of the company is Amerigas from Davenport. The person that my husband talks to when he calls in is Tabitha. She processes the order and completes the billing. My husband found it interesting that she did not even have to look up our account or the date to see what kind of error could have been made, she simply replied "Oh, everybody was billed incorrectly that day and we just haven't gotten around to sending out a new bill." He did not even give a date for the delivery or the date on our bill.
The last three times we have had errors in our billing and each time it has increased in cost to us. The company does correct the error when we call them on it and they use the same statement every time. "Oh, everybody was billed incorrectly that day and we just haven't gotten around to sending out a new bill." Or "I was going to call but I just didn't get around to it." We were even charged for the twenty gallons that we still had in our tank. They said they delievered 250 gallons but that is all that we had after they delivered our gas.
We have resolved the over charge issue but we are unsure how to recover the cost of the 20 gallons that we already had in the tank. We are extremely concerned that this same technique is being used on other consumers, and the elderly and less capable consumers may not be able to help themselves and would be stuck paying an inflated bill.
The last time we ordered gas we waited for over a week to get the delivery. I know that propane is in short supply for the farmers so I attributed the wait and cost to this shortage. Usually, when we call and order gas they will quote us a price per gallon. The usual billing errors are the price per gallon increases when we get our bill. We call them and tell them our quoted price and they send a new hand written installment payment contract. This time when my husband called they did not quote a price, nor did they include a cost per gallon on the delivery ticket. We generally make our payments in four installments. When we received the bill we were shocked that the propane could possibly be over a dollar per gallon higher than usual. We received the bill on the 1st of December, my husband decided to do some checking on what propane was going for per gallon with other suppliers-- they were more than $ .80 to a $1.00 per gallon cheaper. When he called the company they replied with their above statement and said they would send out a new contract. This will be about $200 cheaper than the first bill.
Here is our concern, we have our tank from this company and are required to buy our gas from them, we are in the process of looking for a tank to purchase so we can shop for our gas- we are concerned about the elderly or less capable customer who would not question their bill and just pay the bill even if they could not afford it. I know that my mother-in-law would pay the bill and not question it even if it emptied her checking account.
I think since this has happened to us on three occasions and this last time to the tune of $200 someone needs to look into their billing practices and save someone who cannot protect themselves. In addition to the overcharging my husband told me that they charged us for 250 gallons but we had 20 gallons in the tank when they filled up and now there is only 250 gallons after the fill. There is no way they could have delivered the 250 gallons that they are charging us for.
I do find it kind of suspect that they could have made the kind of error on our bill that they did if they did not intend to bill us what our installment contract states. The bill was hand written, not computer generated, and would have required someone to figure out the total and to decide what each of the four payments should be. Someone please stop this company from ripping us off!!!

Rudeness and non-delivery
I ran out of propane for cooking in my home. I called amerigas in Palmer and they have a woman there (Terry) that is extremely rude and condescending. They never offered to sen a man out for an extra charge (which I would have paid) and told me that they would call the morning of the delivery to let me know that they were coming. I told them that was unacceptable so she said they would call Monday (5 days later) to tell me the day they would be in my area. Who does business this way? I had to eat out for a week or cook in my microwave.

They made me wait a full week for propane!!

They are the rudest company I have ever dealt with and it happens every time I call.

Incompetence /Fraud
I have always paid my gas bill in 2 parts and did not mind the late fee I was charged. I received a call from the AmeriGas office in Sierra Vista and the lady offered to set me up on a payment plan to avoid late fees. I did not care either way so I agreed . Each month I submitted the payment that we had agreed on . I was never late.

Then one day I was out of gas. Amerigas has a contract with us to refill our tank once we hit 20%. We could not understand why they did not come to refill it.

Of course this happened on a weekend. I called the gas company thinking it must have been a mistake on their part. They informed me that because I was making payments they would NOT refill my tank until the bill was paid off. Now mind you the lady I had made the agreement with on the PHONE ( DON'T EVER DO AGREE TO ANYTHING ON THE PHONE) never mentioned a thing about this.

I explained my issue with the Amerigas main office and they said that the local office were sure to straighten this out come Monday. So Saturday the gas truck came ( emergency gas delivery) extra charge- because the tank was empty everything needed to be checked and pilot lights relight ( extra charge) plus I needed to pay for the entire delivery of gas right then and there. It came to about 700$ cash with extra fees .

I showed the driver proof that I had paid monthly like agreed. He was as outraged as I was but there was nothing he could do. When I called the Sierra Vista Amerigas office that Monday the lady conveniently forgot that she ever spoke to me and said there was never an agreement made. She had no records of this so no refund on the extra fees for me.

I can only urge anyone that reads this. DO NOT deal with Amerigas. There are other companies out there that provide good honest service. To this day and I don't have Amerigas anymore ..if I go to the main Amerigas website and log into my account I still show a balance due even so its been paid off a long time ago.Haven't gotten a bill since I paid it off. I don't have a tank anymore switched to electricity costs about the same.

YET there is still a balance due for me on the Amerigas website. Ridiculous ! The main office has apologist to me and faulted " slow" payment processing. Unacceptable ! I can only imagine that hag needed money and figured thats her way to get it by stealing from the company.

Amerigas- SierraVista AZ= FRAUD

Terrible company
I have been a loyal customer of Amerigas for almost 3 years. Yesterday, I came home to find my gas turned off and a note in my door stating that gas tanks were locked because no one was home to sign the lease. I first thought that there was an unpaid balance on my account. When I contacted Amerigas, I was told that there there was $0. balance, but my tanks were locked because there was no signed lease in my records. I was then told that there would be a charge of $109.00 test my gas lines. (A requirement to have the gas turned back on).

After speaking to a 'manager'. I was told that they would waived the fee. However, the earliest that the gas would be unlocked would be Friday between 12-4PM. This I considered unacceptable. Without any notification, Amerigas locked my gas tank because somewhere (as I was informed), someone in one of their departments failed to document the leases, and I am among hundreds of accounts that fell through the cracks. They are in the process of locking any gas tanks without signed leases.

I am now stuck with 200 gallons of gas (fully paid for) that I cannot use until Amerigas comes to unlock the tanks on Friday (4days). If I agree to pay this $109 - surcharge to test my lines, they could have the service restored earlier.

This is unreasonable and I don't understand how a company can get away with penalizing a loyal customer for something that their employees failed to do over 2yrs ago.

Fraudulent Tank Fill and Overcharge
I am yet another victim of Amerigas fraudulently charging customers. In short, they charged me for propane I didn't actually receive. I was 25% full on a 500 gallon tank and was 85% full after they filled it per the gauge. I was billed for 70% fuel. They claimed to have filled the tank to 95% because of the cold temperature and stated my gauge might not reflect this. I have never had a problem with my gauge, but that was their excuse. The meter ticket had the wrong customer information on it to boot, which they also said happens from time to time. Amerigas would not make good in the matter. They are outright cons, and are the highest priced fuel company around additionally. Once my tank is empty I will have them remove it, and I would like to forewarn others of their fraudulent practices so they aren't similarly victimized. Now I see on the news that they have even been shorting 20lb grill gas bottles. Steer clear of this company.

Rude/Do not return calls
I have dealt with AmeriGas for 6yrs.I left several messages to return my calls to have new lines put in. No one returned my calls until I ended my dealings with them. Ive since gone to a new company. I pay my bills immediately and am never late on anything I even have a credit with them, which I have told them to mail to me. This is a very undependably company and should rethink the people they employ!

Refund
I have recently decided to change propane supplyers. We have amerigas and I have always felt they were over charging us. My research shows that they charge at least one dollar more per gallon if not more than other LPG supplyers in my area. They are rude on the phone and act like they are the only one to get LPG from. Its take it or leave it. IT took a couple of years but now my most better half agrees with me. Now amerigas refuses to refund our credit of $33.00. I am disabled but that does not matter to them.

LACK OF SERIVCE
February 18, 2009

Sirs or Madam,

My name is Christina Scripture. I reside in Pennsylvania and by default am a unfortunate customer
of yours.
I am writing this because I have spent 4 consecutive sleepless nights due to being held hostage by
your company, Amerigas.
I moved from Maryland where I received my heat in the form of natural gas. I bring this up only because I had no clue the inconvenience, expense and amount of propane that is needed to heat a home.
My oven is propane, my dryer is propane, my hot water heater is propane and my heat is propane.
Now, the family who sold the home to me was a family of 6( 4 children and 2 adults). My family consists of 2 adults and 1 child. We keep the temperature at 65 degrees. In the disclosure of the
home I was advised that my propane costs would be approx 1000.00 a year. Now, I bring all of this up so as to explain why I assumed that 200 gallons of fuel would last a few months. So, I in turn did
not check my propane level on a daily basis.
I had the tank filled with 200 gallons of propane on January 06, 2009.
I went to use my oven on Friday, February 13th and noticed that the flame from the burner was very
low even though I had it on high. So, I ran outside to check the propane tank. I couldn't even see
the needle. So I called my boyfriend and asked him to call the Amerigas office. I asked him to call
because my previous experiences with them have left me exasperated. He called them and received their emergency hotline ( the main office was closed). He explained we had no propane and they said that they would have someone call us on Monday about this. It is February 13th in the dead of winter and we have no propane now!!! He called me to let me know this I asked him to please call again. There has to be some kind of emergency relief. I can't believe that a company that has the responsibility of providing fuel to heat would not have some kind of emergency plan to fall back on. So, he called again and got the same response. So, I called. I started to receive the same response at that time, faced with the reality that my family was going to be cold for the whole weekend I then told them I could smell a gas leak and I was willing to pay whatever I needed to to get someone out there. At that point she took my number and had someone call me. About and hour and a half there was a technician at my home and brought 44 gallons of propane.
So, at 8:00am Monday morning I called the Amerigas office in Maryland that services my part of
Pa. and advised them of my situation. The robot on the phone took my credit card number and charged me 530.15 for 200 more gallons of fuel and then was told 7-10 business days it would be delivered!!!
7-10 business days are you kidding me???????? Do these people have families? Do these people have beating hearts?
It is now February 18th, we are now taking cold showers. The needle on the propane tank is buried again. I am stressed beyond measure.
We live in the year 2009 and my family is living like this??
She sure didn't take 7-10 business days to collect the 530.15!!
So, I have called around to switch companies and I am being told that I have to have your tank removed from the land before they will bring another tank. Ok. I call the ever so warm and compassionate Audrey at Amerigas so that they will come pick up their tank I want to sever all ties with your company.
She then tells me it is my responsibility to have it dug up. Ok, let me understand this horrible situation
your unwanted property is buried on my land, you will not remove it, you will not sell it to me and I cant get you to fill the damn thing so we don't freeze. Wow!
So, here I sit at work depressed, worried, and completely helpless unless THE MIGHTY AMERIGAS decides to bestow some propane on me today.

So, with this I want to let you know I work with the public. I work in customer service. I will be
shouting from the mountain top about my experience. I will be posting this all over the internet.. If I could I would be camped out at your office, but I have to work so that I can pay for propane and hope it gets delivered within 7-10 business days.
