Beware of scammers
Yesterday received a call on my cell from 876-427-3802. A woman (heavy accent) stated she was from Bank of America in New York, stated my home address correctly, and said she was holding a $75, 000 check that I had won thru a sweepstakes entry (which I never entered). All I needed to do was pay a processing fee of $260. I laughed and stated I did not believe this was legit. I asked to speak to the bank manager - who was of course not available, but would call back. Later I called the number that appeared on my cell (just to see) and got a message to a mailbox number. Did not think anything of it. Today someone called back and left a message from the same number stating they were from Bank of America. Dummy me called back - I was curious. I had no idea where I was calling... Amos Johnson answers and states he is from the Reader's Digest Sweepstakes and confirms on the computer I did indeed win and they were using Bank of America to process the funds to the winner. Long story short - Amos said it was NOT a scam, all I needed to do was go to WalMart and get a money gram for a new lower processing fee of $175. He stated he (after a long hold period) arranged for Fed Ex and a Mrs King to come to my home (did I want to be on TV?). Mrs King would then accompany me to the bank to process the check. Amos stated it was safe because if Fed Ex did not come to my home at the appropriate time - I could go back to Walmart and get my money back! So as soon as I got home I started googling the area code and came across this web site. I was SICK! I immediately called AT&T. Who knows how much I was just charged for that conversation... BEWARE.
