In attempting to purchase my wedding dress, my experience with Amsale was less than helpful, insincere and very untruthful. A particular style of dress, "Morgan", was listed at the flagship store in New York City for $9, 000. An approved Amsale dress dealer in my hometown had the same dress, a unique uncomplicated style, listed by the company for purchase at a price of $4, 500. I opted to purchase my dress at the lower price locally because the price was more affordable and it would include the alterations. When my local bridal store contacted Amsale to purchase the dress they refused to sell it for their original retailed price.
I then took matters into my own hands, outraged that they were obviously inflating the cost purposefully for profit, preying on my emotions. I was told that since the pattern is no longer in existence, and the dress was not popular, it was therefore placed in an exclusive category, and that the higher price is the cost. Furthermore, my local dress store was not authorized to give me that price because they did not have the actual sample dress, and in essense lied to me, (the store I attempted to purchase through had many different Amsale gowns in stock and is authorized to carry and sell this line). Later, not satisfied with this nonsensical response, my fiance spoke with the director of international sales, and was told that the original information I was told about the price was incorrect, and that the price has always been $9, 000, and that the sketch in the price book I saw was a similar dress that is not longer being sold, (even though the dress is very unique and it was listed in my local retailer's price book as the Morgan style).
Overall, I am very embittered by this series of lies, lack of professionalism and respect for the consumer. All of this hassle for the seemingly perfect gown for my wedding day; I am now without the gown that I thought was perfect, for a sale they could of had if they had any integrity and remembered the business they are in-making the customer elated, the dress forever immortalized in pictures and memories. In which I ended up feeling quite contrary-they will always remain a bad memory, taking away from my experience and not enhancing it. Brides check locally for the prices of Amsale gowns first before entering into a purchase agreement with this less than scrupulous retailer.
