Threatened w/mbrsp cancellation
I became a member of this club prior to them even opening their doors, so as a promotion, my family received a low monthly rate that was locked in for as long as I continue to be a member. Well, over the past 5 years, this club has been losing money due to a terrible sales staff and stiff competition in the local area, and to recoup the losses, have been raising rates on members every 6 months on average. The problem is that, due to the contractual obligation, they can't raise my rate and this obviously annoys them to no end. Every single time I have an issue that needs to be addressed, such as my key fob not working, I get the same answer about, "how lucky I am to have my great low monthly rate." Luck had nothing to do with it. I signed up early, and took advantage of a promotion.
Anyway, yesterday I called the club to inquire about the number for the corporate office because I had a billing dispute. I was told by a staff member that I had no reason to call corporate and that they, "doubt a mistake was made, but even if it was, you still are getting a rate lower than most members, so it will probably even out." WHAT?! Unhappy with this BS, I found the number online and called. The corporate office was very apologetic, and said they would send an e-mail to my club saying that they are resolving the billing issue on their end. 30 minutes later, I get a call from the club and am told that they are CANCELING MY MEMBERSHIP FOR VIOLATING CLUB RULES! I said, "what club rules?" I was told, "I told you earlier that you had no reason to call corporate, and since you obviously have issues with club policy, I spoke with the owner and we decided to terminate your membership. If you wish to remain an active member, you need to call corporate back and withdraw your complaint." I said, "I wasn't complaining! I was trying to get a billing mistake fixed!" The reply was, "well, I already told you what you need to do if you if you wish to keep your membership. That's all I have to say to you. Good bye."
I have never, not ever in my life been treated this way or threatened by any club in which I PAY MONEY to for membership. Who the hell does these people think they are? Anyone else gone through this, because I know it can't be an isolated case.

I cancelled service and still got billed!!
This place has the worst customer service I have dealt with. I canceled service 4 months ago and got a call from a credit agency trying to collect a debt of 180.00 dollars today. Give me a break I have not even used the gym since February, ughh the nerve of some businesses. Oh well best advice get a membership where the company actually cares about their customers. So now they want me to give them information to a problem that I solved (or thought I did) months ago. And thanks to these idiots it is going to go on my credit report.

CANCELLATION
Here is the deal, i went in to Anytime Fitness on Judge Ely BLVD in abilene to tour the facility. i liked the gym so i decided that i was going to join the gym, so i told them that i would come back on the 8th when i got paid and i would pay to join the gym. well i guess he is the manager, ABEL, had told me that he had 4 of the ZERO ENROLMENT gift cirtificates to give away, so he said what he would do is give me and a friend Michael Gordy one of those LOVELY SCAMS. so here is what the deal is supposed to be, we get a ZERO ENROLMENT cirtificate and we dont have to pay anything for the enrolment, well that is WRONG! we are still having to pay the 96.37 or what ever it is that we have to pay for THE ENROLMENT. so since i didnt know i still had to pay the enrolment fee it is puttin me in DEBT because i cant afford to be paying 123.70 and my bills. and when i told ABEL to take the money from my acct, and he waited 2 DAYS repeat 2 DAYS, after i told him to take the money so 2 days when he decided that he wanted to take the money i had my personal bills (cell phone, light, water, internet ect...) and after i paid my bills i ran out of money. so i went up to talk to ABEL so i called him and told him i would be around there around 7:30pm to talk something over with him, well i called him and he wasnt there TWICE, i have witnesses to proove that! so i then went up there and he WASN'T there. so it is like i have made every attempt to pay him and he just avoids me. So i decide i want to CANCEL my membership, so then i was pretty much told there is NO WAY POSSIBLE TO CANCEL A MEMBERSHIP. so i have been trying and trying to get this damn thing cancelled and it is very impossible to get it cancelled. i dont want the gym and it is WORTHLESS to have it. when somebody takes a good place that i really liked until i MET abel. he pressured me into this and even scammed me by saying that we got a ZERO ENROLMENT CIRTIFICATE. i am giving you all a WARNING: DO NOT ACCEPT THE ZERO ENROLLMENT FORMS! IT IS A SCAM

billing
I canceled my membership in October of 2007 after my 1 year contract was up. I was told that everything was handled. I was billed the following month. I called and was told it would be taken care of. Just in case, I filed a dispute with my bank. At the time, they were using Apex for billing, they changed to ABC Financial and I was billed in November for another month. I contacted ABC and was rudely told that I had to give 30 days notice. I tried to explain that I had canceled in October, but they didn't care. I again called Anytime Fitness and was assured that it would be handled. I also contacted my bank again and disputed the charges and blocked ABC from accessing my accounts. It's now 2010 and I just received my second phone call from Anytime or ABC wanting to update my billing information. I told the person that I had canceled the membership years before and had moved to another state. I called Anytime Fitness and was told that I had visited the club in 2009. This is impossible as I lived over 6 hours away at the times they claim I visited. I tried with no success to explain that I most certainly had not been to place and was belligerently told that I had. I have no intentions of paying these people on red cent as I had canceled my membership years previous. Their unprofessional attitude is unbelievable.

Avoid them
The business was just purchased by a new owner (Reid) and the place was let go to the point where the same trash that was left on the floor, would be there 3 to 4 days later. No soap, paper towels and equipment is always very dirty. And I am not that picky either! So, I opted to move to another location. He got mad and canceled my membership Feb 2nd, but still charged me for the entire month. He refuses to credit me for the entire month I was not permitted to use the facility.
The owner is impossible to talk to, and feels like he is King *** there. I was at that location for almost two years and was pleased until he bought the place. I later found out he is part owner of the West St. Paul location as well. That story will be posted as well. Avoid both locations!!

fraudulent managers
they breed some sort of culture of manipulation and lies in order to make a buck. it's old world america, folks, it's evil and rotten and one day we'll all feel bad for the wastes of life who tried to shill and hustle their sad way to the top by pulling this bull. just stay away, please. go to a place where real community is supported and nurtured, and you're respected and encouraged to grow. that's what gyms are for, right?

RIPOFF CON ARTISTS
M e and my fiance joined AnyTime Fitness in October 2009 and they explained "all" of the rules and so forth, as well as stating that you could cancel anytime as long as you pay a fee.
We simply agreed and signed up.
In December they tried to Charge my bank for that month before they were supposed to and therefor the money was not yet in the bank. I wasn't contacted by them and I assumed all was well so I put the money in the bank so hey could take it out on the date they had been taking it out before.
A week went by and the money was still in the bank but I figured they were just having tech problems. They contacted me two days after I found out the money was still in the bank. I explained to them that I was told before the date the money would be taken out, and they said I was wrong even though they had been taking it out on the date I knew of since my service began.
I went into the gym to pay in cash in person so that it didn't take long to process that way. I put $30 in my bank because I was saving it for gas to get back and forth to my new job, and when I went to take it out one morning before work because the tank was on empty I found a NEGATIVE BALANCE! Those theives had charged my bank 4 days after I paid them in cash in person.
I was so furious I immediately called them after calling the bank, (to see why my balance was negative).
They said that they did NOT charge me twice and I told them how I called my bank and found out it was them, they quickly apologized, realizing their "mistake" and said I should have my refund back into my bank in like 3 weeks.
I told ABC Financial that it was almost Christmas, I needed to get back and forth to my job and they TOOK the money I was going to use for gas, so I needed the refund now.
Keep in mind while reading that my membership is $75 a month, I had $30 in the bank. That means I get one of those wonderful over-draft fees.
I called the gym itself and explained how I couldn't wait just because of their "mistake". They called me into the office, and tried to say I owed them the money that they took, so therefor now I owed them nothing and they owed me nothing.
I wasn't going to leave with that type of response because I knew who was right and who was wrong. She called ABC Financial and they told her she was wrong. They told her they charged me twice and that I could either receive a refund or I could leave the payment and not have to pay for January.
I said I needed the refund and they issued me one.
Three days later, I was checking my bank status, and found that they had refunded my bank as well. So I went back to owing them money for December. ABC Financial called shortly after and said I had a late fee for not paying the gym!!!
THEY CHARGED ME 2X AND REFUNDED ME 2X!!! PLUS LATE FEES AND OVER DRAFT FEES FROM THE BANK AND ALL THE STRESS AND FRUSTRATION!!!
I immediately called and asked the woman at the gym to remind me again how much it was to cancel my membership.
She told me that there was no way to cancel it unless I move far away from a place with an AnyTime Fitness or to get a doctors note saying that me and my fiance could no longer work out.
I then found out, that if you have a bill in your name they will know, I have my dads phone bill in my name as his Christmas present last year and I can't change that, so moving wasn't an option, and me and my fiance, being in great health conditons, couldn't get notes. Even if we could, they would wait, and wait, and wait until we could to so graciously let us complete our membership.
THESE PEOPLE ARE MONEY HUNGRY SHARKS. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE! UNLESS I HATED THEM.
BE WARNED! THEY ARE VICIOUS!

Relocation and Cancellation Issues
Since my move to New York City in September, I’ve been trying to cancel my membership. According to information from the Minneapolis franchise owner, and the corporate Web site, if a member moves to a city without a club within 15 miles of their residence, the membership may be cancelled. And, according to the Web site, not only can you reach out to your club via phone or email ( [email protected]) — please feel free to email them on my behalf — to cancel your membership, you can also reach out to ABC Financial Services to work it out, as they are the contracted financial services firm that controls the automatic withdrawal of funds from your bank account to keep your membership active. You see where I’m going, right?
True to my experience with both of these corporations to date, each is equally inept at managing client relationships. Voice mails? Unresponsive. Emails? Unresponsive. Certified letters? We’ll see, I finally just sent three — to the CEO of each corporation, and then to the local Minneapolis club, as well, to serve as official written notice of my request for cancellation based on my relocation. When I finally got management on the line at the Minneapolis club, it was apparently new management, had no idea I even existed, was perplexed by the fact that I was a Minneapolis club member but living in Manhattan, and no idea how to handle the situation. You can guess how painful that conversation was.
When I finally got representatives at ABC Financial Services on the line, each of the three individuals I spoke with claimed ignorance of the cancelleation policies and freedom from having to help me, even though the Anytime Fitness Web site directs its members to them for questions directly relating to my situation! Funny, both organizations are incredibly skilled at making certain that monthly withdrawal from my checking account happens with spotless regularity — and they’ve even raised their rates due to a MN taxation issue without contacting club members. Funnier, still, that cost increase hit my checking account separate from my monthly membership dues with no problem at all. There is nothing more frustrating than watching a company you loathe successfully withdraw funds from your personal checking account.
Something, however, tells me that if it weren’t for technology’s ability to cover human flaws, this whole Anytime Fitness franchise operation would die so quickly that CEO Jeff Klinger wouldn’t be receiving any awards. And the fact that he was awarded anything with “visionary” in the title is completely beyond me. Maybe he should look beyond his own bank account and little fitness fiefdom and use that visionary prowess to see exactly how poorly the club franchises he spawned are being run. Running a business isn’t for everyone, so if a club owner is relying on “easy money and little management time” because of the business model, maybe he/she should think again. Or actually, maybe they should just think.
That’s it. Just think. Use your brain. Get it together. Answer a phone call. Reply to an email. Know company policy. And respect your members, Anytime Fitness and ABC Financial Services. If you cant’ do that, then get out of the business. And for God’s sake, get out of my bank account!
