I called Apex/ABC and I spoke to a man named David. David has a very heavy accent and seemed to be focused on closing the inspection. I questioned David on his procedures and other aspects of his company which are on the website. I asked about their organic materials, their inspection report as well as their inspection procedures. David seemed as if he didn't have a clue what we were talking about. I asked questions about his certifications and he told me he would show me at the inspection. I asked about where I could find out about certifications and he wouldn't tell me. At first he wanted to charge $500 for the inspection and as I continued to question him he offered a free estimate.
He never gave me a clear answer on any of my questions. He kept pushing for an inspection and I was getting annoyed and suspicious of their intent, so I decided to get off the phone with him and look around for another company. I searched for another company and I found ABC. They stated on the site they are experienced in mold remediation. I decided to call them to see if I could do business with them.
When I called I ended up reaching David! Again I searched and found Big Apple mold Removal. I called and it was this guy David again! I was now completely sure something was up with this company. I checked the addresses (311) and this business did not exist at any of the addresses stated. I decided to check up on these "certifications". I decided to go down to one of the locations to see if they actually exist and what I found was shocking. What I found at the Brooklyn address was a mortgage company. I went inside and asked around and they told me they had nothing to do with Apex or any Mold Inspection company.
I called the EPA ((212) 637-4013) and asked them about being "EPA Certified" and they informed me that a "EPA Certification" for a company does not exist. I also explained to them that on their company site they have "EPA Certified" on the landing page. The agent told me that they never heard of Apex or ABC and would investigate the matter. The agent informed me that some of these companies would do anything to try to get a buck off of someone. He told me that he would call me to let me know of the progress of the investigation.
The agent called back and told me they claimed to be a carpet company and that they were not claiming to be "EPA Certified". They also claimed to have nothing to do with ABC, though I personally ran into "David" twice. So with this knowledge I then knew that this was some kind of scam.
I called him back to confront him on his false claims of EPA Certification as well as his business addresses being false. I questioned David on why he would put that on his website and David got with me and hung up! I called him back and told him that I would write about this. David then hung up again. I feel this is an outrage and that they are nothing but a bunch of con-artist My wife is pregnant and nobody should ever have to deal with a situation like this when they are doing what they must to protect their family. I know at this point APEX/ABC/Big Apple are all carpet cleaning companies that I don't know anything about mold removal or mold inspection and all they want to do is rip people off. I hope nobody else deals with this company at all.
