Arizona Medical Board Reviews

Wrongful decision made on complaint
I filed a complaint with the Arizona Medical Board over 8 months ago and just now received a response from their office indicating that they are dismissing an appeal that I filed against a Doctor Matthew Holland; a pain management doctor in Tucson, AZ.
In the original complaint I sent to the board, I addressed how this doctor mishandled my medical care where he was negligent in not sending me for an MRI x-ray scan to determine the severe hip/leg pain that I was enduring. When I requested from this doctor to give me some pain medication, he flat out refused to give me refills on my pain medicine. He asked me to return to his office for a epidural injection into my hip, which he claimed would help or rid my pain...well when I returned to the office for this injection, this idiotic doctor bruised my hands terribly, because he could not inject a needle into my hand to administer the sedative to help with the procedure. Instead of sending me for an x-ray, this clown of a doctor wanted me to have implanted into my body a device called "spinal cord stimulation" which would have done nothing for me in getting rid of the agonizing pain I was in. I went to my primary care doctor a week later and my doctor had me undergo an MRI scan which showed I had a severely herniated disk in my back, where pieces of the disk were lodged in my spinal canal. Well the Arizona Medical Board reviewed this complaint and decided that there was no "wrong doing" from this quack of a doctor. I've filed a handful of other numerous complaints against doctors who were negligent in the care that they gave me and also filed complaints with the AZ Medical Board and to no avail, they also dismissed those complaints as well!! The board members & doctors at this AZ Medical Board need to step down and resign, since they are so damn ignorant in recognizing medical malpractice when they see it! I guess the AZ Medical Board feels it is "acceptable" for a person to be in severe pain, whereas this doctor could have taken me out of my misery and sent me for a simple MRI scan, when I requested it from the doctor when I first met with him on my initial appointment. So don't waste your time with the Arizona Medical Board in trying to get resolution out of bad medical care you received from a doctor, because you will simply be treated like you are nobody and they will quickly, and wrongfully send you a denial letter on your complaint with their aweless attitudes!!! I ask myself why is your agency even in business?? Shut this Medical Board office down immediately and save the taxpayer money for state government offices that do something for the average american citizen that works so hard to pay his/her fair share of taxes!!!

Rude and bad service
The Arizona Medical Board's meeting which takes place every two months includes a "Call To Public" session.

When I initially filed a complaint, I was advised (and encouraged) by their office staff to come and speak at the Call to Public. I was told that any citizen could come and make comments, voice opinions, etc., and they did not state (nor does their website state) that one MUST have a case on the agenda in order to speak.

The Board staff also passes out a handout when you enter the meeting area, which states, "Call to Public is a forum for citizens to speak to the Board and voice their opinions or concerns about cases or other matters within the Board's jurisdiction... each person may speak up to three minutes."

It does NOT state that one must have an open case, or a case on that day's agenda.

Yesterday, April 14, I went to speak at the Call to Public about concerns with their review process, and negligence that I encountered by the Board during a recent case.

Lisa Wynn, director, aggressively approached me and scolded that they were not going to let me speak because my case had previously been adjudicated. She was angry and hostile without even knowing the content of my three minute speech, and was clearly refusing my RIGHT to the Call to Public session.

I was not going to speak about my case, but rather was wishing to express concern about the process as well as the Board's acceptance of unvalidated information supplied by the (deceitful) doctor. Lisa Wynn denied my right to voice my concern -- and was less than pleasant or polite about it.

It was not a busy day at the Board meeting -- there were very few people in attendance compared to normal, and the case load was much lighter than normal. Surely the Board had three minutes to allow me to speak, but they were unprofessional, unkind, and inappropriate.

Many have said the Arizona Medical Board is worthless. At this time, I not only agree, but I also have the opinion they are negligent, corrupt, and very biased towards protecting doctors' careers, instead of protecting the public.

Incompetency and Public Danger
Lisa Wynn the non medical executive director of the board is dimissing complaints of dangerous Physicians and also making medical decisions without a medical license. In essence she is abusing her power.
Her credibility and history are very shaky, and there is an uproar in the medical community to remove her from the post.

She is extremely unprofessional, unethical and will be removed soon due to public outcry.

This is part of the reason our medical system in Arizona is ranked in the lowest of the country, and why all the good Physicians have left the state.

Lisa Wynn (Executive Director)
Lisa Wynn the executive director of the Arizona medical Board is both incompetent and abuses her position.

She is not medically trained, has a poor track record, and was hired only because she is a woman with previous connections to our past lame Governor Napolitano.

Public record reveals that Lisa Wynn has a tarnished and immoral past and many complaints have been subjected against her personally for incompetence and abuse.

She tries to hide behind the premise of the Arizona Medical Board, but will be surprised very soon when they will not protect her anymore.

She soon will be removed from her position based on both incompetency and corruption, and will also will have to answer to some serious civil suits.

We need to rid ourselves of both Ms. Wynn and others like her in various state positions

Negligence
On February 10, 2010, the Arizona Medical Board (AMB) heard two cases against a particular doctor. AMB, per procedure, secured an outside medical consultant (OMC) to review the case and give recommendation.

The OMC determined that the doctor deviated from the standard of care. The doctor defending himself claimed the OMC was biased because it was a local physician. So, the AMB took the time to get a second OMC to review the material.

The second OMC, just like the first, indicated the doctor deviated from the standard of care, and recommended a letter of reprimand (discpline) for the doctor.

OMC (expert witness) after reviewing the information of two patients, provided commentary such as, the doctor (regarding liposuction) "grossly re-sected fat" and suctioned "in areas known to cause deformities."

There was more, and minutes from the meeting are available at www.azmd.gov.

In addition to the doctor deforming and over-suctioning two patients, one patient also had difficulty in retrieving her medical records from the doctor; the doctor withheld her records from not only the patient but from a subsequent treating physician. She had to use the assistance of an attorney two times, and it was not until four months later that she was able to get her records. While this is not acceptable behavior, a particular board member decided not to take action against the doctor for that because the patient "ultimately" (eventually) got her records.

The doctor solicited letters from his own colleagues which (not surprisingly) were in his favor (surely the doctor would not submit negative reviews on his own behalf), indicating the Board's OMC's were just overly critical plastic surgeons.

(On that note, I feel if one spends $15k, $25k, $35k, with a cosmetic or plastic surgeon, they have the right to not come out looking deformed. There is a problem with a medical board who doesn't support this thought process.)

The Medical Board ignored TWO unbiased outside medical consultants' opinions and recommendations, and these two patients were left deformed, one of them also with serious medical conditions, after this "doctor" performed cosmetic surgery.

In addition, when the Board questioned this doctor, they had to repeat and rephrase ONE question 10 (ten) times before the doctor gave a satisfactory answer. It was like they fed the doctor the answer. I recorded the entire proceeding which was open to the public, and have the audio to back my statements.

To top it off, approximately ten complaints (from different patients) had been filed against this doctor. Because the patients, through internet research, found each other, the doctor cried "conspiracy". The medical board sided with the doctor instead of protecting the public.

I had heard before that the Arizona Medical Board is worthless and the "doctors stick together." The Board is comprised mostly of doctors. However, I had faith in humanity, and faith in this Board.

Regarding filing a case with the Arizona Medical Board, many people had told me, "don't waste your time."

I've discovered, unfortunately, these people were right.

It would be Governor Jan Brewer's job to look into this matter, but Jan Brewer (and/or her office) has opted to ignore public safety as well, and has declined to even talk to the patient(s).
