Harrasing phone calls
For about 6 mos. I have been receiving Robocalls from Art Van on my mobile phone. I receive the calls during the day at work, received them on Thanksgiving morning at my home, etc. I asked three times to have my name and numbers taken off the robo call system. I asked again to be taken off the system. I hope it works this time. I don't want to shop somewhere that thanks me with annoying robo calls. Even worse, they wouldn't take me off when I requested.

Don't shop there
The back of the couch I bought is coming off and there are several exposed staples that are sharp enough to cut you if you get too close to them. I bought the couch last year at Art Van, the Hall rd store. Also two of the legs are cracked. When I called customer service they said in effect "we will do nothing about those problems."

They want to charge me to fix the problems. I wouldn't trust that either.

That's the quality level you can expect at Art Van and the level of customer service you can expect - if you are daring enough to shop there!

Cheap Construction
I bought a table and chairs from the Mission Hills Collection that were described as;

Construction: Constructed using veneers over wood and select solids.

The select solids turn out to be plastic! All the trim on the set is plastic that scratches easily and shows white against the dark oak set color. I called corpotorate and set up an in home visit from their repair people. They said it was a cheap set, what do I expect! I was told I should have shopped at Gormans if I wanted quality. I called back to coporate and was told that they will not take the set back as it is over the 30 day return period. I can pay to have the plastic repainted or they will give me 15% off a new dinning set. This is crappy service. I'll take my money elsewhere.

False Advertising
Art Van is full of ____!!! I bought a $1800.00 mattress on sale for 50% off, with promises and so on. Long story short, it was not even a FIRM matress which the Livonia Sales clerk told me it was, NEXT DAY DELIVERY, "not when there is a sale, WE are too busy", found out that their SATISFACTION GUARANTEE is only good for 30 days (when I took them to small claims court), and the 15 year warranty on the mattress, well mine was measured and found to be very defective, but they claim it had a stain on it...there was no stain. When trying to get them to replace it due to increasing back problems from sleeping on it (I am 49), the general manager in corporate said there is no such thing as firm and laughed in my face, when I told them I can't even sit on the side of it without slipping off, more than 3 supervisors told me "beds are not made to sit on" and "sitting on a mattress anymore than 30 seconds is considered excessive", well... I tried to file with Better Business Bureau, they refused to accept the report saying it was stained!!! That is the issue..it is NOT!!! Sone one told me now that if they are a member of BBB, BBB never accepts a complaint from one of their paying BBB members...could that be why there were no records of any complaints for any Art Van. Also in small claims court, I was not even able to tell the whole story, Art Van stopped me and showed the judge warranty that I never ever saw and the case was dismissed. MICHIGANS MATTRESS LEADERS, what a laugh!!

Sold defective furniture
Bought recliner and sofa, which arrived in disrepair. Then have had 5 visits, soon to be 6 to put new mechanisms in chair, whole new spring system in sofa. It's just now a year, with all these problems, how could it ever last much longer? *** furniture, will never buy again. I bought this furniture at Art Van Furniture in Battle Creek, MI. I've had to deal with one rude lady during our many phone calls and I've wasted 15-20 hours of my time waiting around for people to come fix it again and again.Next time I will shop somewhere else.

Terrible service
We bought a leather couch from Art Van along with the lifetime warranty in 2007. Within the first 6 months the color and dye was wearing off. Called service and they came out and replaced the seat cushions, but said this was a courtesy only. Well, the color has worn off again, and service came out and refuses to do anything about this problem. Told us that it is normal wear and tear. A leather couch should last for years. My kids have a leather couch that we gave them and it is at least 15 years old. No problem with the color. I am very upset with Art Van for not taking care of this problem and it looks as they are selling inferior furniture that they won't stand behind. They have my money and now the *** with the customer. Never buy another thing from them, they have lost their INTEGRITY.

Poor service
Myself, wife and 3 kids are from ontario canada and travelled 1.5 hours drive to this store which we researched online. Upon arrival we where met by several high presure sales people but the one stuck with us thru our trip in the store. She showed us several pieces of furniture with allot of impatience for us to make a decision on one of the sets she had shown us.My gut feeling was to walk out but i had the wife and kids and i stuck it out.When i asked for a bottom line price on a couple of different sets she would walk away and come back with a price.At times it was higher than the price advertised and sometimes lower.I asked why, and she said that it was because it is a group set.Other times she would give me a price and come back later and it was 60 and 80 dollars cheaper than the first time??Go figure, this should have been a red flag, price would vary and drop the longer we where in the store!!She was desperate for a sale and really started to put pressure on my wife, and i knew she want to sell so i went after a really nice lazyboy set, to which she had priced up and down from the original price advertised.At one point she was high, and i gave her some grief, she would walked away and came back with a lower one.This went on for 20 minutes.She also informed me that we live on the other side of their delivery area in canada, by about 35 min. drive time and that they would not drive to our home and we would meet them in the nearest big city of london.Fine i said i will arrange a truck and meet them there, for a cost of 80 dollars.I informed her that if they delivered to my home i would purchase a 1200 dollar electric fireplace.She said that if she could arrange this she would call but as of now the delivery was to london only.Finally it was a done deal and she needed a manager for something and off i went to pay.I had to go to another person to pay.When i went to pay she had me down for 2 loveseats and a chair i wanted a couch and love seat and a chair so i had to pay another 80 dollars more than the price she didnt tell me about.After i payed, the cashier informs me that the furniture will not be in until the end of dec., 4 weeks away, fine so be it.Three weeks go by and i get a phone call for the sales woman and she tells me that if i take the electric fire place she could maybe have some leverage with the regional boss and i could possibly get the furniture delivered and set up right in my home.Great, i said if u could do this go ahead, it could be delivered by the end of the week it is sitting in storage.I get another call from another flunkey sales rep. and he tells me they will delivery for 240 dollars and i must buy the fireplace.He gives me a price for the fireplace and extra delivery charge and it is more than 100 dollars than the quote for our original sale price from the woman sales rep.I inform him of the error and he corrects it and apologizes.I have been hearing allot of apologies lately.Lets get the ball rolling I WANT MY FURNITURE!!So i pay the money.I get another call from some type of manager and she tells me that the furniture with be contracted to another carrier and will be dropped off at my home sometime in the next 2 months!!!And it will not be set up i must do it myself and if anything is wrong with it i must take it back to the store myself.In the mean time i have sold my old furniture in antisipation that i would have the new stuff that week.I inform her of this and again another we apologize.I asked why they wont go another 35 minutes past their range for a customer that just paid another 240 dollars for delivery and purchased 4000 dollars in product?She said thats their policy.So i politely tell her i want a refund.I hope any Canadian takes note and that our USA brothers and sisters heed this warning.
