I hired ASAP Relocations Inc. to relocate my home and office materials from San Francisco to Seattle in May 2008. We agreed on a delivery date of June 1, 2008 and they never showed up. When I contacted them on June 2, 2008 they told me bluntly that they did not have to deliver my belongings (picked up on May 17) before June 22! The tone of the conversation was clearly indicative of something odious to come but I did not get it well at that point.

After sleeping on the floor for 9 more days I got a call from somebody that he was in my area and needed 50% of the moving fees in cash within an hour or he returns my belongings to California. I'll say clearly here that when I hired ASAP Relocations Inc. I told them that I couldn’t keep thousands of dollars in my house and that I could not withdraw more than $400 from the bank in one day and they had promised to call me one day before the delivery so that I could have time to collect cash!

When the caller showed up I saw Continental Express Inc (another California-based mover) on the truck. He told me that he was delivering on behalf of ASAP Relocations Inc (San Jose). I handed him the remaining moving fees in cash and he started unloading without verifying the checklist that he had. I started verifying my copy of the checklist and when they said all was done, 2 boxes containing all software and books and courses for my office where not delivered. I called ASAP Relocations Inc and they did not want to talk to me, they rather talked to the driver and I did NOT understand what they said since it was in a foreign language. The driver refused to let me verify the boxes that were remaining on their truck pretending that they were for the next delivery. He was going to call me only after that delivery! He then disappeared and never called me back with an unsigned delivery order. So, technically ASAP Relocations never delivered my belongings.

Hey, you have a company that has check listed items and does not know what is on the truck right? What were they then trying to deliver when they left California? Within one week I called their office 4 times and the switchboard operator always told me that somebody was going to call me back in 15 minutes and all the time nobody called me back. Worse of all, 3 weeks down the road when I called the same guy told me that they had not received the delivery order from the driver that left Seattle on June 9 for San Jose - unless you are traveling in a difference universe I can't see how you can leave Seattle for San Jose and still be on the road 3 weeks later. That's when it became crystal clear that I was in a scam.

They refused to answer the complaint filed with the San Jose Better Business Bureau. They refused to answer the complaint filed with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. And that confirmed my dreaded suspicion: scam. I never in my wildest dreams thought fraud, extortion and theft were legal. But apparently they are since the police consider this as a civil matter and the federal agencies that I thought had the authority to reign in fraudsters told me that they could not do anything if the mover refused to deliver my belongings.
