financial aide
i have been sending all information requested of me and each time everything is fine until it is time to send out what is due me, then we start all over again with the same papers, this makes me believe that they are getting paid to put as many people in debt as possible.and somewhere along the way fafsa or someone should have caught on to this.there is noway that this company is not under investigation;how can they require me to fill out the same paper five times and noone can see how this is happening because they are recieving the funding by signing up their quota and after recieving the funding they find any reason why the person should not be paid.this is to well and turely set up for the pattern to have gone unnoticed this long.why should i have to pay a debt when someone else is recieving the money and is not delivering what they promised ;they are committing a crime not me:where are the people who is suppose to help me and others like me; this
is a scam so what is being done about it.

Financial Aid
I HAVE BEEN ATTENDING THIS SCHOOL FOR 8 MONTHS AND I HAVE NOT RECIEVED ANY FINANCIAL AID. THIS SCHOOL HAS TAKEN OUT BIG AMOUNTS OF LOANS AND THEN I WAS ELIGIBLE FOR PELL GRANT. I WAS TOLD THAT I WILL STILL HAVE TO PAY OUT THE POCKET. CLASSES ARE $1200.00 PLUS A $75.00 DIGITAL COURSE FEE. PELL IS ONLY $5500.00. $14, 000.00 WORYH OF LOANS HAS BEEN TOOK OUT IN MY NAME FROM THIS SCHOOL. HOW IS IT I DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH TO PAY FOR MY CLASSES. THIS SCHOOL IS A RIP OFF AND JUST WANT OUR MONEY AND PLUS THE ACADEMICS HERE ARE NOT UPSCALE. THESE PEOPLE DO NOT CARE ABOUT STUDENTS PROBLEMS OUTSIDE THE SCHOOL. ALL THEY CARE FOR IS THE MONEY THEY CAN GET OFF STUDENTS. THEY HAVE VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WILL NOT HELP WITH ANYTHING DEALING WITH OUTSIDE OF THE SCHOOL. WHAT KIND OF ADVISORS ARE THESE PEOPLE

$1000+ bill for nothing more than 6 total wasted weeks and a worthless over priced book
I enrolled at Ashford University Online in April, 2009. After comunicating extensivly several times with the enrollment advisors and being reassured multiple times that All my tuition would be covered by my grants. Which was re-confirmed by my advisors during the begining my first week of classes that all my paper work had been finalized and all my tuition was being paid for. However during the middle of my 2nd week I recieved a notice that I had no student aid and nothing was being paid for and that I was going to have to take out 2 intrest loans to attempt to pay for my tuition. I tried repeatedly to call and e-mail them to figure out what was going on and try to resolve the matter. But all I got in return was having my calls and mail ignored for the past week. 3 days into my third week of class after repetedly calling I finnaly got in touch with someone to actually talk to me. As it turns out I had been lied to and misinformed and minipulated from the very begining about my student aid and tuition coverage. When I tried to find out more about my fed. student aid and what else I could do to resolve the matter they kept trying to change the subject and get me to take out multiple intrest loans. When I continued further to find out more about my fed. student aid options they kept transfering me to other advisors and giving the run around. I called around locally tried to get advice from the local board of education, my old high school and a semi-local technical college they were all very suspisious and told me not to enroll or sign any thing further and dissenroll ASAP. It took 2 days to get into contact with them just for that. So today May 07 2009 I dissenrolled and now am held with a $1000+ bill for nothing more than 6 total wasted weeks and a worthless over priced book. All I can do is hope that this does not mess up my student aid for the future, or the chance of enrolling with a professional and legitamate school. I just hope that this information can be used to help someone else to avoid from getting into this type of situation with such misinforative lying {so called} business.

FA
Well I don't feel like typing all afternoon but my complaint is with ashford university and the "process" for getting money back for a class that I was charged for. I am a disability student and I was told if I hurried up and started thge new program, services would (access servicees for disability) would be in place ASAP. the short of it was I didnt get services, failed a class and when I asked about a grdae appeal I was told NO...retake the class and tuition would be reimbursed and grade would be removed. Suddenly everybody has amnesia!!!I have been taken through numerous processes and in the end since I used rent money to help with school expences, because they said feb 14 my check would be mailed, I ended up with a place to live. I have been fighting, contacted the president of Ashford and grievence supervisor, I am still without. I said today, "I cant keep up without my FA reimbursement because I have certain items required to use with my disability" I was told If I quit it would not be likely that the reimbursement would be completed and I would owe the school money. They have got me over a barrell so to speak. I am looking others to join me in a lawsuit them because this is just not right!

Class Action Law Suit
To whomever this notice may concern:

I have experenced issues with Ashford University, and I am currently in the process of filing a class action lawsuit against the company, notice I did not refer to them as an educational institution, because their primary goal is to obtain funding, and then education falls very low on the spectrum.

As I was researching information and complaints against the company, I noticed that there are several of you out there who have had issues with Ashford University, particularly their Financial Aid Department, and Collections.

In seeing this I realized something has to be done. Immediately.

But before we can do that I need your help...

Perhaps, you enrolled in Ashford and they misled you, like they did me by promising me a teaching certificate with the state of Iowa immediately following graduation -- then after enrollment you realized that the company was nothing more than a big scam.

I want to hear about your financial aid stories with Ashford, please email them to me at: [email protected].

Too often companies think they can push over on consumers, but we as consumers have recourse.
Not to mention because Ashford is an accredited university, this can stop you from being able to enroll at other universities due to holds on your account i, e. they won't release transcripts.

Together we can achieve Justice.

PS. The US Government and other Agencies are currently investigating Ashford, so we need to act quickly while we have prominent agencies looking into their history.

dishonest
I have written my complaints about Ashford before and it doesn't look like it gets any better. I was almost dropped (but of course, they made sure to have my money first!) for...they didn't know why. They came up with a different reason every time and NONE of them made sense! I finally had everything fixed (major work on MY part!) and had 1 more thing to do. I needed to make 1 more phone call to make sure that someone had gotten a name mix up fixed. Sounds simple? Oh no, this is Ashford! They can't have any smart people who actually do work there! That would be silly! So I started to get the runaraound again but at least by now I knew the drill. I told him what was wrong and how to fix it. I had already forced them to figure out the problem and it was a name mix up in their system. I have a common name so I understood how it could happen. I was just mad that they didn't fix it until they were afraid my money would go elsewhere! But the main issue was resolved. The only thing was getting this one man to check to make sure that the system had it right. One last step! That was it! And could he do it? Nope! I had already been told he was the typo person. So this was not good! He was trying to basically get out of trouble and cover his @$$. He pretended not to understand me, he changed the subject, he interupted me when I asked him to please check to make sure my name was right. He outright refused to do anything for me! He lied and lied and lied and finally I told him that I have saved EVERY email and EVERY voicemail from him. I know what he has said! So can he please just type in my name and make sure my first, middle, and last name match up with my info? NO?!? What? So I have all these voicemails from him calling me between 7 and 9:30 at night and all these emails, each with a different story about why I was almost dropped, and all these conflicting lies so he can cover his butt for...wait, what is the point? He already got caught! I have already talked to everyone trying to get the problem resolved and they followed the trail back to him. He's always been disorganized and lazy so I'm not too surprised. It's just that at this point, does it really matter? There was 1 more thing to do and he couldn't even do it. Now I have to worry if that one mistake he made will cause more problems. What if the other girl with my name does something to get dropped or has a different major or whatever? The thing that really pisses me off is that he doesn't care! He wants to get out of trouble and not just take 2 minutes to make sure it's fixed! He even told me that there was no computer problem! I told him that's what they told me and told him exactly what had happened. I have a very unusual middle name but very common first and last names. Another person had already tracked down my name and told me that there had been a mix up with me and another girl with my name (and I think middle initial). And yet even knowing he was caught, he kept lying! So since I had to be professional and polite to him, I'm complaining on here! I don't want to have him mess up my records more!
Financially, I have to continue because I can't pay everything back right now. Otherwise, I am so sick of them messing things up! This is just one case. They can't figure anything out! Every time I call I feel like I could get smarter answers from a bunch of kindergarteners! I have no complaints against the teachers, just the office staff. They need to get their rears in gear and pretend like they're getting paid to actually do something!

greedy
I picked Ashford because they are cheaper than University of Phoenix. UOP was so expensive, I figured out right away that it wasn't worth it to go into debt! Ashford seemed like the better option, and less stigma since not many people know it's an online school. I was so wrong! Tuiton went up almost immediately. My grant money, which I never had a problem with at community college, now is too difficult for them to figure out. They did manage to do it but I swear I had to walk them through it step by step! That's not a good sign! Me being the one with just a little bit of college education? Hmm...
There also seems to be a million different kinds of advisors for everything but they change every week. I have multiple advisors for everything. They don't actually do anything helpful, they just chat and pretend like they might have a brain cell in there somewhere. And they like to call late at night! I realize Iowa time is different than my state but they know where I live. Why are they calling me at 7, 8 and 9:30 at night? For no reason really! At first they seemed to be trying to babysit me. Um...hello, I transferred with a 4.0. I can handle this. I don't need people calling me every night when I'm trying to sleep telling me to keep going and keep my eyes on the goal. Then there was something about changing advisors and that's always a flurry of calls each time. There's always something! Now they are telling me I am in danger of being kicked out. For what? They don't have a clear answer for that. How can such chatty people call me nonstop all the time for no reason, mess up on every bit of paperwork EVER and then suddenly they shut up? For once I could use some of their chattiness. There's some runaround crap about me being disabled (I am but it doesn't have anything to do with my classes), or maybe it's a name mix up (okay, I do have a common name so this seems legit), or possibly they may have messed up in their computer system (they said this once then took it back), or maybe it's that I never attend classes (I log in at least 3 times a week and I get A's on all my assignments so that is not a valid excuse at all!. Just something someone came up with on the spot obviously without looking at my record). And those are the answers I have gotten. Really? I'm so mad! I guess they want me to drop out but I can't afford to. I sent them an email telling them that they can drop me but I expect a refund due to their error. I know that means nothing to them, an empty threat, but it made me feel better. I guess they can ditch me from their school and make me pay what I owe but why? I still have classes left. I have a lot of classes left! Why not keep racking up the money? Is this a usual tactic for them? Do they pick random people to drop for no reason so they can get money?

At least my teachers are good and actually, class-wise I have no complaints. Financially it's about the same as going to a private college. I could complain about cost but I'd have loans no matter where I went. The big problem seems to be an incompetent staff! It does seem like students have to do all the work while the offices are filled with losers getting paid to do nothing. Can I get paid for doing their work on my own forms? Because I did all that! I told them how to do it! Why is it that a community college staff knows how to do all the grant, loan, admissions, etc very well but a "university" can't? Something is very wrong with this picture! And why is this place so disorganized?

Dismissal for attendance
I have attended Ashford for 3 classes. I transferred here because I have over 90 credits and they were only one of a few online universities that will transfer most of my credits. I received excellent customer service from my enrollment advisor and my academic advisor in the beginning. But, here is where my complaint comes in. Most universities have an attendance policy of logging in to your class at least once a week. Ashford evidently required you to log in twice a week. I have been kicked out of my current class for violating this policy. Although ALL of my coursework is complete for the class! I was told that I am being dismissed from the university after my next course (which begins Monday), but can appeal the dismissal if I pass this next course (I would have to pay to be reinstated!) . And, on top of this my financial advisor is now emailing me that I have not completed my FAFSA for 10-11, but I have the paperwork stating that it was indeed submitted to them LAST YEAR! I have to decided to transfer to my second choice school after my "dismissal" instead of appealing. Please be aware of ASHFORD and their shady policies.

Misleading, no compassion for students
I have been attending Ashford University since May 2008 for my Master's degree. I chose Ashford rather than University of Phoenix because I was told that the courses were exactly the same but the tuition was $300 less than University of Phoenix. In October 2008 my father died and I requested a three month break from classes and was told that it was fine. In January 2011, I had three classes left (9 credits-that includes my Capstone) to complete my degree and was in the middle of one of my final classes. I received an email stating that I was dismissed from Ashford University for taking too long to complete my degree. I did not receive any notices or warnings from anyone at Ashford University. I attempted to reach my AA, FA and the person who sent the letter, Tina A. and did not receive any response. Only after I wrote an email stating that I was going to contact the detectives in charge of the cases against Ashford University did I receive a response. I was then told that I could appeal the dismissal. Since then I have contacted University of Phoenix and Grand Canyon University to see if they have similar policies about a time limit for completing their degrees. They told me they had never heard of such a thing and that was one of the reason why students chose the online environment because life has so many obstacles and most students could not attend a traditional university due to having to take longer. I would have taken seven weeks longer than Ashford Universities requires to complete my degree. I am now receiving harassing phone calls, emails and letters stating I need to pay the $110 balance owed to them or they would send my bill to collection and my credit would be ruined. I have left messages explaining that I was appealing the dismissal and that I am a 100% financial aid student so the financial burden is horrific for me. I also suffer from depression and the increased anxiety and depression that this ordeal is causing me is horrible. Please learn from my mistake and do not attend Ashford University, they do and say anything to get you in the door and then just leave you to the wolves.
