Horrible dental experience
I went to Aspen Dental since it was the only participating provider in Vestal NY. It reminded me of what a medicaid dental clinic might look like.
First off a young lady made an attempt to take my x-rays - eventually I had to help her get the film pieces in my mouth and position them! I'm sure she had no kind of training certification...seemed to dislike her job.
Then brought to dentist chair, which is in a large room with 2 other dentist chairs divided by a row of cabinets! No privacy - made me feel like I was a number, not a person!
After waiting for a long time, the doctor (who looked to be a first year graduate) sloppily dressed, quickly introduced herself and began to examine my mouth calling off numbers to an "assistant." "Assistant" was a young woman, also sloppily dressed, who kept asking for clarification of what the "dentist" was saying...again, made me feel that the "assistant" had no training whatsoever! The doctor made no attempt to acknowledge me while she was "in my mouth"!
People walking back and forth behind my chair...since it was a large room...listening to other people in dentist chairs...that's when I knew I had had enough and was not EVER going back there!
I was then brought to the "closer"...yes, just like a sleazy car salesman! I stopped him before he went into whatever he was going to discuss, to let him know that I would never be coming back here.
I will definitely go back to my former dentist even if I have to pay large amounts of money for an out-of-network provider! It will be worth every penny!
It was a disgusting place - a great example of corporate dentistry!

inproper treatment
I have a huge fear of the dentist for the longest time. The mear mention of a dentist makes my heart speed up and I feel like I could puke. However, my teeth have gotten progressively worse since having my children so I finally made and appointment with Aspen since they are in my provider network and my sister said that they were real nice there. I told the girl when I made the appointment that I was afraid that I was going to lose one of my front teeth to advanced gum disease. I have had no problems with molars only my front teeth. I went in for the appointment and I waited for 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment time until they called me in for xrays. After the xrays they sat me in that horrible dental chair in a cubicle and there were all sorts of people milling about. The dentist finally comes in after about 20 minutes. Studies my xrays for a few moments and asked me what brought me here. I explained how one of my upper front teeth were loose and I was afraid that I needed to have it pulled and a partial put in. He poked around in my mouth for a couple seconds lightly brushed a couple teeth with his instrument. When that was done he said that his recommendation was a full mouth extraction and dentures. I asked if there was any chance of a fixed bridge since I don't have problems with my molars or bottom teeth and he said that they were all loose and needed to be pulled. Granted I haven't been to a dentist in 12 years but I am pretty sure that you at least have to touch all my teeth to be able to say that they are loose. I'm only 30!!!
I was immediately shuffled into the office manger's office. The door was not closed and there were other paitents outside, (forget all about privacy at this place) and she reviewed the different types of dentures that they offer. Gave me the estimate for their top of the line product and mini implants which are not covered by insurance. The total estimate was over $12, 000 of which I wouldbe responsible for $5000 out of pocket. She then asked me how I wanted to pay and I said that I would have to give that some thought. She then pulled out the Care Credit application and went over the different payment plans that would be available if I were to be approved. I told her I wasn't commiting to anything today and asked for a copy of my xrays. I paid for the printout of those and left there nearly about to puke.
I called a small family practice dentist and made an appointment for the following morning. I went over what happened with Aspen and the dental assistant was in shock. The dentist examined me, checked all my teeth to see if they were lose and measured my gum pockets. He recommended a fixed partial on top because my top front teeth will have to be removed and he recommended root planing and scaling for the rest. He said that my molars were not loose and that my gums are likely to respond to treatment. I showed him the estimate they gave me and he felt that was pretty steep for what they were proposing. He did say that his recommendations will not cost as much out of pocket because of my insurance but it was a longer more involved treatment that will require multiple visits over the next 18 month. He and the dental assistants were really nice and really did a great job of putting me at ease. He was like a big teddy bear. Not at all like the dentists over at Aspen which I presume the fly in from India and while they may be over qualified to be cab drivers here in the US they are certainly lacking some qualifications to be dentists. They are only there to do the easiest and most basic work possible for the most money. Stay away from them or you will definately lose your smile

Terrible experience
Went to Aspen Dental in Tarentum PA to find my smile. That was about 2.5 yrs. ago. I can not tell you how much trouble these people have caused me. They said all the work would cost over $6000.00. Well We started at the top, I was to have all teeth pulled and a immediate denture and to follow their TOP OF THE LINE DENTURES. Well the first time they made these TOP OF THE LINE DENTURES they must of mixed up my mold with GODZILLA these teeth were HUGH so I tried to have them adjust them. A long story short, the dentist Meredith said, "well thats all I can do for you." I gave her the teeth and said give me a refund. As I was walking out, she said "we need the immediates also" HA HA HA She wanted me to walk out of there with no teeth. yea! So they made a second set, again no fit, better but still could not wear them. After paying over $2100.00, I still have no smile. THEY FOUND MY POCKETS AND TOOK MY MONEY! So I decided to work with CARE CREDIT, that went no where. Finally, Aspen Dental decided to give me credit for those TOP OF THE LINE DENTURES! Well that sounds good, we have a price, because when this all started, their office manager Kim said she would have to call corporate to find out what the price was...duh! So, I paid $546 for the immediate and $845 for them TOP OF THE LINE DENTURES. The rest of the over $2100 plus $400 cash was for the pulling of the teeth. GREAT the immediates fit the best of all they tried, but $546, no way they are worth this, they are ready to fall apart. BUT I DID GET MY CREDIT Good, right...NO CARE CREDIT IS TRYING TO SQUEEZE ANOTHER $300 OUT OF ME. I paid them well over $1200.00 and they got their $845 credit so I say we are even. The lady at Care Credit said well you have some late charge and thats why. She's lucky I paid any thing, eat those late fees. SO here I sit, with bad credit and NO SMILE, hmm PLEASE PEOPLE DO NOT GO TO ASPEN YOU WILL NEVER FIND YOUR SMILE!! please don't use CARE CREDIT I think Aspen and the CC are up to no good. FIND A NICE SMALL DENTAL PRACTICE you will be glad you did.

Poor Service
My poor experiences with this company occurred over the course of 2007. I finally was enrolled with dental insurance, so I picked a dentist and went for it. They priced out all my work to be a little over 1500 dollars. And signed me up for care credit without fully explaining that I would be billed by care credit before any work was even done! So that was the first issue. Then finally I began having work done...and the trouble REALLY begins. I went for a routine cavity filling, the guy drills into a tooth i never even felt any pain in, and stops after a minute and says that the cavity is too deep and that I need root canal! WHAT?! So he put a temp filling in it and sent me on my way, it fell out that night and I still have not been able to have it fixed. The next time I went I had extreme pain in a tooth that I know needed to either be pulled or have root canal. I couldn't afford a root canal and asked them to pull it. They refused to pull it and did a pulpotomy to "hold me over". Well, the infection never went away and the reason I wanted it pulled was because I was losing my coverage soon due to an upcoming move. I called to say that it hadn't worked and the woman I spoke with told me that they had told me I needed a root canal and this was just a temporary fix. It wasn't a fix at all! She got an ear full from me and I haven't called back since. On top of the bad service, the people who work for aspen dental are not compassionate or understanding of any fears a person may have of the dentist and made me feel childish and stupid for having trouble with that, when on their website they claimed to be very understanding of that sort of thing. My suggestion if you are looking for a good dentist, use the tried and true word of mouth method to find one, because people are honest about service when it comes to someone working on their mouth!

Fraud
I am a manger of a business with 20 employees. I received a package from Aspen Dental which contained discount cards and coupons for one person to receive free services. These free service coupons were intended to allow one person to visit the office and receive free x-rays, exam, and cleaning.
When making the appointment over the phone, I stated that I had the coupons and that I wanted to evaluate the office through the free services.
When I arrived for the appointment, I stated that I was here for the free services and I presented the coupons. They punched holes in the coupons and added them to my patient folder. They also asked for insurance information, which I provided.
The vist went well and I was pleased with the service. A few days later, I received notice from my insurance company that they were presented with a bill for the services and that Aspen Dental was paid $117.00.
I call the dental office to inquire as to why I was billed for the "free" services and they said that it was their policy to not honor the coupons if the patient had insurance. There was no mention of this policy at all. I objected and asked that the insurance company be reimbursed. So far, no such reimbursement has taken place. I view this as a fraud.
I filed a complaint with the insurance company citing this fraud. I assume the insurance company will be investigating. I also requested copies of my records.
I emailed the Aspen Dental corporate office and have not received a response.
The Webster office indicated that they would pay the insurance company back but it has not yet happened. They did make a point of telling me that they would be making an exception by honoring the coupon!
I would not go back to this company nor will I ever recommend it.

Fraud
I have taken my son for wisdom teeth extraction . We were advised that the price is around $1200 - my son also asked if sedation is included or separately billed, they said it was included, otherwise he was going to do it with local anesthetic - anyhow long story short, teeth were pulled out and they asked me to pull up behind to get my son as he got some " Michael Jackson juice in him" - I paid 614 dollars as asked to pay, got my son and went home. Yesterday, I received a bill in mail stating I owe them another 323 dollars - and the total has changed - on the bill all of the sudden it was $$2430, when itemized come to find out that sedation was not included - billed separately - contrary to what we were advised before the procedure, also there is a $65 charge for Professional consultation ( I never saw a dentist - just a nurse who told me about Michael Jackson's juice in my son's body . I went to talk to Aspen Dental in Webster, 975 Ridge Road 14580 and among 3 ladies I talked to, none knew what to say or how to remedy the issue. To make the matter worse they claimed that $ $2430 was the total from the get go - that is a lie as they asked me to pay $614 right after my son was done, so that $614 has to have had a base to be calculated from - exactly 50% of their $1200 quote - none of them had an answer, they were all looking the other way telling me that none of them handled this for me at the time - I will not let anybody take me for a fool and will contact their Corporate Office, Attorney general and BBB until I get to the consumer's justice. This company is a fraud and this has to stop - I hope somebody from Aspen Corporate reads this and responds to me ASAP - I want my money back - and I will get it . What was quoted at the time of visit - prior to the procedure must stay after the procedure. Needless to say I took offense for Aspen personnel referring to my son post surgery condition as " He has some Michael Jackson's juice in him now" after that same juice killed the famous singer. These people are unprofessional and fraudulent . Do not go there! My e mail is [email protected] in case Aspen Dental Corporate Office would like to contact me !

scam
My husband chose Apsen after checking other places because his teeth were bad and he needed dentures. After all was said and done, he was given a sheet with a total of $3400, with discounts for cash payments and insurance. We decided to use our tax refund to cover the cost. That was in March of 2009. Now in Oct of 2009, he has dentures that make him look like Mr Ed, and today, the upper broke! He went to the office where they told him they can't fix them because he supposedly still owed $1200! He paid everything owed and then some, and now he has teeth he can't use, and our new insurance won't cover repairs because the teeth are less than 10 yrs old! These teeth have never fit right. Numerous calls to Aspen get us nothing but assurances that "the gums need to heal" Sub par work, by sub par dentists, guess we learned our lesson. We are out $3400 and my husband is reduced to eating mush until our next income tax refund. It's about time something was done about this company!

Crown fell apart after 15 days
The dentist told me that I needed two old fillings and 2 old crowns replaced. There was nothing
wrong with the fillings or the crowns, they were just old. It was the first week in January, the beginning
of my dental insurance cycle the work would have used up my entire plan for the year, Aspen Dental did
not care about that they just wanted the money.
I agreed to have one crown replaced. The crown broke 15 days later when I was eating a cheese burger.
The dentist tried to save it by filing the enamel down and the told me if that did not work, they would
replace it for free. It did not last so he had to replace it. Aspen Dental kept billing me and
my insurance company. This was for a free replacement and I have it in writing from the dental office.
They kept billing me and I kept sending them a copy the letter. They finally sent it to a collection agency
and I have reported the same information to the collection agency. A year later, I was brushing my teeth and the second crown crown has broken. That will be 2 crowns on the same tooth in 18 months. I would never recommend Aspen Dental to anyone.

misdiagnosed
I went to aspen dental and was told that I had pre-peridental disease and if I didn't take care of it I would loose my teeth. I then applied for a credit card through them to have the 1, 505 procedure done, I am not ready to loose my teeth. As I drove home I was discusted that this was so exspensive. I talked with a few people about the cost and they suggested I go for a second opinion which I did. My teeth are fine with no gum issues the costs was 75.00 and next appointment is May 2010. This is absoulutly disusting in the health field that they are stealin from the poor. Beware and always get a second opinion on everything their are no more honest people out their.
Thanks Sue
