Aspen Dental Reviews

Horrible Company
January 2008, I went into Aspen Dental to have a front tooth fixed that had been knocked out by my 3yo daughter. After all the xrays and quick exam by Dr. Bennidetto he expalined the best course of action would be to have a total upper extraction of my teeth. I am 32 years old and going on his recomendation had the work done. When I had gone in for a 3rd adjustment in May 2008, the doctor decided it was time for my final set. We scheduled the impressions and had the teeth made. On delivery of the dentures, I informed Dr. Bennedetto that I had sore spots. He then blew up at me and informed me I had been a pain since the beginning and I was to wear the dentures for a few days and let them settle in. I left angry and upset. I never went back to the Waterville office, but instead went to Bangor (an hour away). My dentures came with a 7 year warrenty and I wanted to make sure I kept the warrenty. The Bangor office worked an hour trying to fix the dentures but still couldn't get them right. I finally had to have a new set made. This set also does not fit correctly so I am still wearing my immediates! In the meantime, I filed a complaint with the State of Maine Dental Board (which I urge everyone with a problem with Aspen Dental to do), and the dental board found after six months of investigation that I had substantial bone to warrent not having my teeth removed to begin with! I sure hope they have enough money-because they have a hefty lawsuit comming at them!!

Deceptive Business Practices
I went to Aspen Dental for a free examination. I went because my wife had some work done and was very uncomfortable with the business practices involving upselling, bait and switch and general unethical treatment. I was also motivated to go as my insurance changed and I was forced to find a new dentist. I got my free examination and was told I needed a deep cleaning, 4 cavities repaired, 2 fillings removed that were failing, a bridge removed that was old with one supporting tooth was weak. I was also told I had bleeding gums in which I do not. The dentist then proceeded to agressively dig at my gums and then with a swab show me blood as proof of the bleeding gums. It was clear to me I was being played as a sucker.

I asked the business person to provide me with a detailed statement of the work I needed. He agreed and then never gave it to me. Rather he gave me an estimate for about $1400 for the cavities and a deep cleaning. He marked it down to ~$700 because he claimed I had a "good insurance plan". In fact, I had no insurance rather I had a plan that if participating members subscribed to the plan they charged published set rates for different services. I wasn't going to let these people to anything to me.

I then went to the dentist that has cared for me for 20+ years. I was told I had no tooth decay, gums were fine, bridge is fine, bones are strong. It's clear to me that I was being set up for treatment I didn't need, upselling, bait and switch. I recommend to stay around from these clowns. They are potentially dangerous to your health. If our state cared they would close these people down. Its very clear to me that a few simple visits by people from the state would see the practices. I have to wonder why this hasn't been done yet. Then again its Ma. government...

ripped off on dentures
I had 100% coverage on new dentures up to $1500.00, so I decided to get new dentures, I went to Aspen and the woman that handles the billing and ordering of the dentures, did not even ask me which ones I wanted, she automatically set me up for the top of the line dentures, which cost $2000.00, knowing that I would still have to pay the remainder, I was approved for a GM card which allowed me to make payments. After months and months of trying to get the dentures at a proper fit, I went to get my new dentures, when they put them in my mouth, they looked terrible, and they didn't fit right, I couldn't talk, nor wear them, after months and months of trying again to get them to fit, a new dentist from Easton, decided to "help" me and make me new bottom dentures, they fit wore than the other ones, and when I told him just this, he took the attitude that he was not making me another set, nor giving me my money back, but I could have the first ones back...why would I want another set that didn't fit?...I decided to try and wear them, but when I compared the top dentures to the bottom dentures, the bottom dentures were not the same quality, the teeth were yellow, they were the low grade teeth put in a $ 1000.00 price tag...I am contacting consumer affairs and the BBB to get my money back...I have to past the uppers in once a day, and the bottoms in 4-5 times a day...

Fraud and cheating
I too am a very dissatisfied patient ('customer') of Aspen Dental. Have been going thru heck with these people for almost a year. Too many problems to list here, still haven't gotten the money back I deserve, and they are refusing at this point to reimburse my insurance co. and I never accepted their crummy ill fitting dentures or partials. Still have their crummy ill fitting 'temporary' teeth, only because I cannot afford to go elsewhere until I get my problems resolved with my insurance co. They are thieves who only care about the 'bottom line' like most corporations. PLEASE if you are having problems with them, do what I have done and contact your state's Attorney General. Let them know what a scam this place is and then maybe someone will do something about them! I live in Ohio and would like very much to take them to court, but cannot afford an attorney right now. Anyone know about a class action suit going on? I would certainly join in!!!

Dishonest, poor work and customer service
I totally agree with all the complaints on this forum. I started my nightmare with them last Feb. and it continues. They have ripped both me and my insurance company off in just about every way that is mentioned: fit, cost, billing my insurance co. for teeth I don't have, and would never accept! Refused to reimburse them...Do what I have done, contact your State's Attorney General, the Better Business Buearu, your insurance company and let them know what is going on!!! These people are the worst of the worst when it comes to corporate greed! Even contact your local news stations. One contacted me after I sent a letter out to my Attorney General, and I CANT WAIT to see the investigative news story they are doing on these theives! Enough is enough...sure do hope they don't ask for any of the bailout money these other corporations are asking for!
By the way, if anyone is aware of an attorney in the Ohio area who is willing to bring a class action suit against these theives, please let me know, I'LL BE THERE!

They lied about their services!
I was told that $10, 300.00 would cover everything from my initial consultation through surgery and up to receiving my permanent partial dentures. After my last visit I was surprised to find out that not all of the services were covered by the initial $10, 300.00 and I still have not gotten my permanent dentures. Now I owe an additional $400+ for appointments that I was told was covered. What's even worse is that part of my restoration failed and they are billing me once again for a filling that didn't even last 6 months. I have no insurance so I am forced to pay out of pocket. I AM NOT SMILING!!!

Poor service
I went to Aspen Dental on Illinois Road in Fort Wayne Indiana on 11/28/08. This was my first visit, I decided to try Aspen Dental because it was close to my home and my other dentist was clear across town. My appointment was for 10:00 am. I filled out my paper work and wait for about 25 minutes. I was going in for a cleaning however was told that i would have to get x-rays first and then come back at a later date for my cleaning. During the x-ray process i was hit with the x-ray machine several times and it was even dropped on my clavicle bone. After the x-rays I was taken to a room and told to wait for the doctor. In the room beside me a lady was throwing up non stop. Why would anyone want to hear that. Her husband was in the room with her and was telling someone on his cell phone that she was very sick due to getting an infection after having a crown done by Aspen Dental. I thought maybe this was a bad choice coming here. I waited and waited, 30 minutes later the office manager came in and told me the doctor would be in shortly. It was now 11:30. I asked her if shortly meant 5 minutes or 30 minutes. She said she wasn't gonna lie to me and it was probably not going to be 5 minutes. She said she knew I was probably upset because I had to listen to the poor women in the room beside me throwing up but they did not have any other rooms to put me in. She asked me if i would like to reschedule. I told her no, and that i would just go to the dentist i have been going to for years. She told me she understood and there would not be any charge. This was the worst experience ever. I have been sure to tell everyone how awful my Aspen Dental experience was and I will continue to tell everyone.

Dentures
You didn't help me find my smile! In fact, I avoid smiling because of the teeth and the way they fit. Unless I really coat them with adhesive they don't stay in. I went back numerous times with the same complaint and was told they were fine. WELL, THEY AREN'T FINE! I spent a lot of money there and feel it was totally wasted and if it wouldn't cost me so much I'd go to another dentist and have them redone. A friend had a similar situation, went to a real dentist, and his teeth look marvelous.

Your facility never felt clean to me - labs coats on employees for the most part were stained and unclean.

I would not recommend your facility to anyone - in fact, I tell people about the terrible experience I had with Aspen Dental.

Scam
I had my initial visit with Aspen Dental and the Dr. told me that my teeth looked pretty good and scheduled me for a routine cleaning. When I returned for my "routine cleaning" I was told by a dental hygenist that I needed a deep cleaning and that I would have to have a couple more visits to do a total debridement and that my insurance company would not cover the entire costs. I said that I came for a cleaning and that is what I wanted done. I was told that they could not do a cleaning without doing these other procedures first. I felt like things were not right and this sounded like a scam and a major upsell. I decided to leave and do some research before committing to such things and I am glad I did. After reading all the other complaints about Aspen Dental and hearing about the other scams this company has perpetrated upon others I am so thankful that my internal alarm went off about this company.
