Patient rights
On May 19, 2008, my husband needed to see the Dentist for an emergency for his lower left molar. The tooth was broken in half and the root was exposed causing severe pain up the left side of his face. When he entered Middletown Aspen Dental and told the staff of his emergency, he was turned away. They told him that they were "too booked today" to see him and had no openings. They also told him to come back on Wednesday (May 21st) for a possible walk in. When he arrived on Wednesday, he was told to try on Friday. Being that this is his dental provider, he did what they said.

I, myself, work in the medical field, and it is neither ethical or professional to turn away any patient who has an emergency no matter what the situation is. Your company's problems do not become the patient's problems whether the company is busy or short of staff. If the patient becomes septic and dies, this creates a large law suite for Aspen Dental. I will NEVER recommend this company to ANYONE. They have violated a patient's rights to be seen in a timely manner for an emergency. UNACCEPTABLE PRACTICE!!

Inappropriate dentist!
I took my 16 year old son for a crown placement on 3/27/08. The first crown the doctor, Sophia Rodrigues, broke while trying to place it over my son's tooth. They tried to repair it for two hours, without coming to the waiting area to tell me what was going on. Needless to say, I was upset, but I was not rude or disrespectful. On 5/15/08 during the second attempt with a new metal crown, Dr. Rodrigues complained to my son about me being upset during the last visit and made my son extremely uncomfortable as he has been raised not to talk with adults about other adults, especially not his own parents. The next day, I telephoned Dr. Rodrigues to tell her in the future should she have any complaints or concerns about me she should speak to me directly and not talk to my minor child. The doctor was incredibly defensive, snotty, and denied she said anything to my son. She also called me "unprofessional" (I don't know why she called me this as I was calling as a concerned parent not as a "professional").

Since my husband pays a lot in dental insurance, not to mention the out-of-pocket expenses we incurred, I will be complaining to CEO /President Robert Fontana. Not only will I never go there again, I will not bring my other children and I will tell my friends, family (hell even my enemies!) not to frequent Aspen Dental. Oh, since the second crown was made from the cheaper metal, we are due a refund from Aspen Dental. I anticipate a long drawn out battle to get this money as when I brought up the refund to the receptionist, she told me it would be better to just use it towards other dental services at Aspen. Yeah right.

In all my life, I have never encountered a dentist as rude, defensive and unprofessional as Dr. Rodrigues. According to my dental insurance website, she graduated from dental school in 2005. Perhaps she was absent the day they taught how to interact with children patients, and how to speak with their parents. NEVER AGAIN!

Scam
I called Aspen dental and made an appointment for a cleaning and check up. They gave me a whole battery of x-rays and then the dentist gave me a cursory exam. The dentist then sends me to the Office Manager who proceeds to set me up for a deep tissue cleaning, replacement of 4 fillings, and 4 new crowns. I have no pain or sensitvity issues. I never got the cleaning.

I told them I wanted the 4 cavities taken care of and made another appointment. when I got there, they had me set up for a deep tissue cleaning first. I was upset because that is not what I set the appointment up for. They then had to check with the dentist to see if was able to do the fillings without the deep tissue cleaning. He said yes. They asked me for the payment before services were rendered. when I got in the chair, they started to give me a whole new line of sales crap.

Aspen Dental has no interest in you as a patient. It is not a family dentistry office. They get you in under false pretenses and then try to up sell you on everything under the sun.

They do not practice dentistry in the best interest of the patient. They should be investigated by the Attorney Generals Office for their business practices.

Rude People
I have never been treated so horrible as I was at the Aspen Dental at Watertown NY. My dentures are breaking down at a rate of every three months. They are only 5 years old, so I don't know if that is normal. Anyway, I cannot afford the $100 every three months to fix them. I am on a tight budget. I didn't buy the cheap dentures. I bought top of the line. I was being treated so bad I started to cry, which only made them treat me worse. (One exception) I had to go back 2 hours later to get them and they made sure they made me wait another hour while they took everybody ahead of me. My Mother was waiting in the car and heard two girls come out and say how rude the people are in there. I got in there only to be treated worse than before. I figure the 6-7 thousand dollars they have made off me, I would get better service. I will never go back there again. I always told my friends about that place. I will make sure I let everybody know how bad this company is. I tried to find a website to make a complaint and cannot find one. Of course you can't find one because they get bombarded with complaints and don't want to bother. Another way that they handle business. Aspen Dental needs to make some changes.

Terrible in all ways
I just moved back to Mass, and my new employer's dental plan gave Aspen as the closest provider. Against my girlfriend's, who is a researcher, wishes I went ahead and scheduled work, I should have know that when looking at the estimate they were going to charge me over $100.00 for their reccomended toothbrush as well as $135.00 for Oral care instructions. They led me to believe that the deep cleaning that would be done in two sessions with my 50% insurance payment would be no more then $250.00 per visit instead the bill for the first session was almost $500.00 which included a charge for a toothbrush head which I did not order. I faxed the bill to my girlfriend who is actually in charge of research for a local agency. She had her staff fax the bill to several reputable dentists in the area and found out from all that the bill was totally out of line and bordered on fraud. I now have to retrieve my records and go to a reputable dentist to get the work finished. I think Aspen is both deceptive and disgracefull.

Rudeness by manager!
The manager Sara, at this Aspen Dental in Schenectady NY. Is a very rude and nasty person, to both clients and to her employees. She apparently wants to look good at the expanse of others. I will never go there again, as long as she is there, nor will I recommend this place to anyone.

Aspen should be ashamed of having such managers, that can be so rude to clients, and yale at employees in front of clients.

Unsatisfactory service
On 2-19-008 I went for impressions for a full upper denture and a bottom partial plate. On 3-6-08 I received my upper, and was told my partial had not come in yet. I was called to come in on 3/18 /08 and was told that the metal on the partial had broken, and would have to be sent out and re-made. After hearing nothing from them I called on 4/2 and 4/3 and was told someone would call me back. Finally today 4/4 I received a call saying that the partial had come in. I asked if I could come and get it and was told not for 5 days. Very poor service - would not use Aspen again. They just want the money ($2700.00)

Should be put out of business!!
WHAT A RIP OFF FOR SURE!!!

I WAS JUST ON LINE LOOKING FOR MY COMPLAINT AND I CANNOT FIND IT. SO I WILL TRY AGAIN.

I HAVE READ MOST OF ALL THE HORRY STORIES FROM THOSE WHO WENT TO AN ASPEN DENTAL OFFICE TO HAVE ANY KIND OF WORK DONE.

I WENT IN TO HAVE DENTURES DONE AND MY STORY IS WAY TOO LONG TO GO INTO, ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT IT HAS BEEN AN ON GOING THORN IN MY SIDE.

THIS ALL STARTED ON JUNE THE 14TH, 2007 AND I AM STILL WALKING AROUND WITH NO TEETH AND THE DENTURES THAT THEY MADE ME NEVER FIT CORRECT THE FIRST TIME. I CAN REALLY RELATE TO ALL THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN THROUGH THE SAME AS I HAVE.

THIS SO CALL DENTAL BUSINESS SHOULD BE "PUT OUT OF BUSINESS"!!!

AS FAR AS THE MONEY PART GOES, I HAD TO MAKE SURE THAT I WAS PAID "IN FULL" ON THE DAY OF MY SURGERY AND THAT WAS A HORRIBLE ORDEAL. IF I HAD DONE RESEARCH, I WOULD OF SAVED MYSELF A LOT OF GREIF.

SO AS OF TODAY 4/2/2008 I AM STILL WITH OUT WORKING TEETH AND I AM AT A STAND STILL.
I BELIEVE IF THERE IS ENOUGH OF US COMPLAINING THAT THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO SOMETHING.

ONE WAY OR ANOTHER I WILL GET ALL MY MONEY BACK AND GO TO A REGULAR DENTIST THAT WILL MAKE A GOOD PAIR OF DENTURES FOR ME. LIKE I SAID BEFORE, I DON'T GO ANYWHERE, I DON'T WANT TO BE SEEN LIKE THIS AND I WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO HAVE SOMETHING GOOD TO EAT. I AM WAY TOO TIRED OF EATING SOFT FOODS. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH OF ASPEN DENTAL AND I WILL KEEP GOING UNTIL I GET SOME KIND OF SATISFACTION!

I HOPE THAT THE MEDIA CAN GET A HOLD OF ALL THESE LETTERS ABOUT ASPEN DENTAL AND EXPOSE THEM TO THE PUBLIC. OH YEAH, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THEIR NEW COMMERCIAL, ABOUT HOW THEY "CARE ABOUT THEIR PATIENTS"??????

WELL ENOUGH HAS BEEN SAID, SO TO ALL THAT HAS BEEN BURNED BY ASPEN DENTAL DON'T GIVE UP OKAY?

refused to work on my teeth
I went to aspen dental as i was having problems with my lower partial plate and did not know if it needed to be relined or needed a new one i also wanted the 4 bottom teeth i have left cleaned as those teeth hold in the denture. well the dentist came into the room and asked what the problem was and i told him. He said take out the denture and let me look at it so i did . He looked at the denture and said i don't see anything wrong with it. i said look at my mouth it is all torn up from it so he looked in my mouth and said oh that's nothing it's just settling in. I said settling in?? it had 4 years to settle in. Well he refused to see anything wrong with it. So i said well i would like the teeth cleaned
He said there is a lot of tartar there. I know i that's why i would like to have them cleaned. Well he said if i find decay under the tartar i won't even bother th fix them .I was in total awe of what this guy was saying to me so much i was at a loss for words. So i said what do you recommend?? he said have the teeth pulled then i will put steel posts in the gum to hold the denture in. I said how much money are we talking about here? he said roughly $4, 000 thousand dollars absolutely insane was my reaction. then he said to be very frank you seem like a nice person but you and i would not get along because you know what you want and i can't give it to you. A dentist that can't do what you want absurd!!! I think he was looking for a large amount of work myself so then he said thanks for stopping bye and i left' Now pray tell what are dentists coming too!!
thanks for listening

Misleading!
Aspen Dental, Warwick, RI. I went to Aspen dental to get my teeth cleaned, and I wanted a tooth checked that was giving me some discomfort. When I filled out the papers for the necessary information, I put down my visit was for cleaning and check. I was given a full set of X-rays which I didn’t need and when the dentist checked my teeth, and the X-rays, he didn’t even see the cavity on the tooth that I wanted checked. I did have a broken tooth right above the one that was bothering me. His main concern was capping the one that was broken, and not taking care of the one that was bothering me. I made an appointment to get the cavity taken care of.

When I went for the appointment he started working on the tooth that needed a cap, and not on the one that needed the filling. I told him that I wanted the cavity taken care of on the lower tooth. He did the filling and then started working on the broken tooth that needed the cap, which I did not want done at that time. He went ahead and put a temporary filling in, and said nothing about a core buildup, which is needed for a crown. When I received my statement from the insurance company, it listed it as a core build up which is not covered by my insurance.

On the Aspen bill it was listed as core buildup with pins. I questioned the core buildup and pins listed on the Aspen statement. In a phone conversation I was told that there was one pin put in and that two were not needed. When I went to pay the for the core buildup with pin, I found out there were no pins at all and that the price was the same, with or with out pins. The person told me that it was listed as core buildup/pins, meaning that the core buildup could have pins, pin, or none. This in itself was inconsistent with what the bill stated, because on the Aspen statement it plainly stated core buildup with pins. Beware of Aspen Dental; they will take advantage of any person that is not aware of their pressure tactics. They obviously can’t keep track of what they do and don’t do. And are confused on the proper terminology too clarify their work done.
