treatment or lack of
I have been going to Aspen Dental now for a few years. I was never really comfortable there. After all it is a strip-mall dentist. They told me that I needed major work but I only ever had the necessities done a little at a time. I did have to have one tooth extracted after it became infected. I had told the dentist that it was bothering me but he kept putting it off and putting it off until finally there was no saving it.
The other things that bothered me about that office was that they would do x-rays every single time I went in there. It didn't matter if it was 2 months or 2 years. It just seemed like a money making scheme to me. I have cancelled appointments that they had scheduled for me to do major work because I didn't feel confindent enough in them to file all of my teeth down and replace them with crowns or bridges.
I really like Dr. Anand, however this last time I was in to the dentist he had taken his son to college for orientation so he wasn't in the office that day. I was only there for a cleaning but had to fill out new paper work f or any new medical issues since my last visit. Since my last visit I had been diagnosed with a genetic blood clotting disorder, Factor 5 Leiden, that I have obviously had since birth. The Hygeneist came in to do my cleaning and said that she had to wait for the doctor that was filling in for Dr. Anand. I had already waited a long period of time. The doctor came in and asked me to explain this disorder so I did. She would not let the cleaning be done until I got a medical release from my primary. She handed me the paper and told me to drop it off to my doctor and have it faxed over to her office and then they would call me. that was Nov. 12. 2007. I called a couple weeks later and the receptionist said they had not called to reschedule my appointment because they had not heard from my doctor yet. I called my doctors office and they said they had faxed it that day but would also send them one in the mail. I still have not heard from Aspen Dental. I did however get a statement from my insurance company stating that Aspen billed them for a complete exam. They did not do an exam. The doctor may have looked in my mouth for 5 seconds.........and thats pushing it.

Be weary and do your research!
I went last year to Aspen Dental to get work done. It is walkable from work, so it was the best choice for me.
I went in for a cleaning and 1 filling to start the process, and would come back on other visits to have the rest of the fillings completed. After I had my filling done the day I went in to have both procedures done, the dentist went home in the middle of the process!
The receptionist tried to reach him via cell and his home phone, but he was unreachable. To my understanding he no longer works there, but gave me my first bad taste about the company.
Because it was convenient for me, I decided to give it another go and had made another appointment. However in the meantime I was sent a bill in the mail, for something that I was told that it was to be taken care of by my insurance.
A year goes by, my fault for putting it off, and I have nerve pain come out of nowhere on a tooth I should have had extracted last year - again my fault there. I went in to find out if they could see me primarily for the extraction and for 2 fillings that need done and I was told I needed a full checkup. no problem there, but I'm limited on time I can be seen. I can be seen this friday after 4:30, or next saturday, other than that it may have to wait a few weeks.
I was told then they can't see me unless I come in on Friday at 4:00. I told them not possible - meanwhile no saturday options were given to me and I know they are open.
I should have known better than to go back with my bad experience the first time, however for the sake of convenience, I thought I would try it again. Maybe not all of them are bad, and maybe not everyone has bad experiences - but be weary and do your research!

Charging us for services covered by insurance
My husband went to Aspen Dental in Belle Vernon, PA as a new patient, as a referral from his insurance, Aetna. He had an abscessed root that was treated and removed by a nice dentist. Then, at checkout time, he was asked to pay $51.80. He paid it, but questioned it and was told, "that is your copay". We then called Aetna whom stated our copay is $18.00, not a cent more, and reviewed with us our benefits, and once we receive our EOB (explanation of benefits from Aetna) to call or show Aspen for a refund. Well, we then received a bill from Aspen for an ADDITIONAL $207.20!!! We immediately called Aetna to again review the EOB and she called Aspen Dental to review it with them. Latoya (a HUGE help!) then informed me Aspen would have a Biller look at the bills and EOB and to call back in 5 days. Well, I just called Aspen and spoke with Sue who was NO help whatsoever. I was told it was being "looked at" by the biller to clear the "confusion" and I would have to wait. (Of course, they didn't have to wait for the $51.80!) I asked to speak with the "biller" and was told I would have to call them back. Of course, I asked how long this process would take and was told "I don't know" and then asked Sue how soon should I call back and was told "maybe next week?" If this is not cleared up by Aspen, I will file a complaint with Aetna, and so on until I have it resolved. I also informed Sue at Aspen that I was owed $33.80. Hmmmm... I wonder how soon I will see that!!!!

The worst place you can go to get dental services
They made me a lower denture, that I woke up with after having my teeth removed on the 20th of September. The denture is so big it wouldn't fit Mr. Ed. They cleaned out my insurance money. They charged them $850.00 for a plate that I was told was $199.00. It's supposed to be used for 6 months and then they make you another denture which is to cost $600.00. There is no way for them to fit the denture they made for me. I asked for my money back that I had to put out before they even do the work, which was $874.50. They have done nothing but give me the run around. They said they have to call corporate headquarters and then they would get back to me. When we call they put us on hold and never answer the phone. In the meantime, I have had to go to another dentist and have made an appointment to have a decent denture made that I will actually be able to eat with and won't make me look like a football player, as it looks like I have a very large mouth-guard in my face. Be advised this is probably the worst place you can go to get dental services.
The new dentist I saw felt that this was one of the worst she ever saw.

Poor work!
My daughter just has two fillings (which we had to pay extra for- we did not want the black filling - they did white which did not match her tooth color. It looks like they poured white out into her tooth! They billed us for services that were supposed to be free... took long to get reimbursed. when you call customer services - you are on hold for ever THEN they tell you sorry for the delay and leave a message and a rep will call you back... so you press the number to leave a message and they disconnect you... I have never, never dealt with such a poor organization. I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND THESE PEOPLE TO ANYONE!!!

Unsatisfactory work
My mother went to aspen dental in orange Connecticut, she went in they gave her a price of 1200.00 and they agreed ok she ask for dentures ok all was well until she received her dentures and they were extremely to big for her mouth and what ever chemical they used on her dentures made her face swell up. So she called aspen dental and told them her problem and they brushed her. They told her there was nothing to be done, now she received her credit card statement and saw they charged her card 1700.00 and now she have dentures that look like horse teeth and they have a bad smell to them the dentures smell rotten. And think that is wrong for them to treat their new customers. I feel they should help and solve this problem by giving all that money back or fix the dentures and give some of the money back. Now i know this is a win win situation and i am not gonna sit back and let them scam my mother like this so someone needs to get back to me as soon as possible i will be forced to get the professionals involved. The patient name is mary johnson and if you need to get in touch with any one contact me her daughter amanda johnson at this e- mail address [email protected] and i hope to hear from someone very soon. Thank you very much because aspen dental you made my day by scamming my mother.
