Aspen Dental Reviews

Ill fitting dentures
My wife had her teeth pulled and now dentures from Aspen Dental. However they do not fit properly - they are very loose and fall out even when eating light foods, like a half of a strawberry. When we complain they are non caring, rude and condescending. When she went to have them adjusted three staff members worked on her and not a one introduced themselves to us, (this is very poor business practice) they acted like we were being a bother to them and were talking down to us like we are idiots (I have a Dr. degree but did not disclose that to them).
We plan to get an attorney and make them pay another dentist to straighten out their problem if they do not make this right.

unsatisfactory care
When I went to Aspen Dental 2 years ago for a dental cleaning, I was suprised to have an ultrasonic gum cleaning being performed when I did not ask for it to be performed. I inquired about it and was told "it was in my treatment plan". I stated that I did not agree to this service and didn't argue further about it. When I scheduled this dental appointment, I specifically said I just wanted a cleaning- not the gum cleaning I had last time.
When I arrived to my appointment, I was told that they had to stick to the treatment plan- with gum cleaning. I stated I refused this treatment but the dental hygentist wouldn't clean my teeth- she stated that I needed to speak to the office manager. The office manager comes in and says she sympathizes with me but the treatment plan must be followed. She says the hygentist must do what is best for my teeth and her repuation is on the line. I offered to sign papers stating that this was not an issue of money (2 dental plans to pay for services) and not a matter of me being uneducated about the importance of clean gums (I am a nurse), but a service I did not want to suffer through again and my gums appear just fine. Since when did the customer/patient not have a say in what THEY want? As a nurse I know that I cannot force treatment on patients against their will and this applies to ALL forms of healthcare. Aspen Dentals office manager insisted that they would not clean my teeth and give me an exam without the gum service being performed. I walked out and me and my family will never go back.

Has no compassion
Our regular dentist was on vacation when a front tooth broke. I would not be seen in public with this tooth missing. It was a clean break and I thought that a bit of glue would hold it in place for a few days until my regular dentist was available. Aspen advertised walk-in service so I called to verify and after explaining what I wanted they gave me a same day appointment. Upon arrival we again explained that we only wanted a tempoary fix to hold us over and was told "no problem" they gave me 3 pages of questions to fill out and said that an x-ray would be required. When I was in the dentist chair, doctor Young Park said that he could do what we asked but REFUSED to do so because we were not coming back.

We should have been told up-front instead of waiting until then. Plus they had the audacity to bill my insurance for an x-ray and oral exam. What a bunch of money grubbing, unethical, expletive-deleted...

Fraudulent diagnosis
I am in the process of having Aspen Dental investigated in RI and attempting to have the entire franchise investigated based on the complaints here. My complaint is they mislead patients and misdiagnos them for the benefit of monetary gratification and are in violation of the ADA Code of Ethic, more specifically Code 5.A and 5.B.6. I will repost the results when more progress is reached. I went to my prior dentist and they did the same testing and report I do not have to have a scaling done and my gums are in healthy condition. They even refused to clean my teeth unless I have this procedure done which is not needed. I'm not letting this go. People are having it hard enough surviving without be ripped off by their dentist.

Dentist
I went in to the dentist office for a free xray of my front tooth that needed to be fix after the exam they explain to me that i needed two fixed then three next a four partial plate after that i should have gone with my first instinct not to let them do any procedure on me.Then each time they wanted more money an i gave it to them then i thought about it i called them asked for my money back.So after that the office manager ask me to come in to talk to her and the dentist because at that point they where unprofessional the dentist was talking about my case out loud with the techicians actually the tech.was telling the dentist what to do but after speaking to them the second time i gave them a chance after apologizing. The second dentist was suppose to be better she said but he hurt me cut my gums up before he did my crown impression i thought maybe it would heel.So now i go in for my last office visit to get my crowns put in surprise they are to big both tooth are to big i said how did you all get my teeth wrong from the impression you first made when i first came in everybody is SHOCK! now i have to get the other tooth fix to look like the other tooth that nothing wrong to look like the other that to big and wrong color an i have paid them $15oo.00 for them to have disfigure my gums.I spoke to the manager again she said that they will get back with me its been two days nothing has been done there not professional.WARNING IF IT DOESNT FEEL RIGHT GO WITH YOUR FEELING!There just out two make money and not to please there customers if i would only just gone on the computer to research Aspen Dental

Generally an awful business
I have been a patient at Aspen Dental for a few years and have finally had enough. Every time I have an appointment, I have to be on top of them about what my insurance will cover - whether it's a routine cleaning/x-rays or a filling. They have done an x-ray that was not covered and then charged me for it at the end of the appointment. They have tried to give me a white filling twice even though my insurance only covers silver fillings. They literally balance bill me for every single appointment. I have to call them every time to let them know I am not paying this bill. I requested an x-ray from them to bring to my oral surgeon when I was getting my wisdom teeth out. I made this extremely clear and they still gave me an x-ray that didn't even show my wisdom teeth. I had to leave my oral surgeon appointment to drive across town to get the correct x-ray, which I had to pay for a 2nd time, even though it was their mistake. The final straw was this past appointment - I had one of the first appointments of the day at 8:00. I was not taken in until 8:15, and the hygienist proceeded to scrape my teeth and gums so roughly that I was crying. She saw the tears and laughed. Then when she finished, she told me to wait for the dentist to inspect my teeth. I waited for 15 minutes and the dentist never came to see me. I finally left after I had been at this appointment until 9:15. Unfortunately, I still have to deal with them one last time - they balance billed me for a simple cleaning and bitewing x-ray AGAIN!!

Bad service
I have talked with office manager of newark oh aspen dental. 2 different aspen offices can not make partials to fit my mouth. & want to give me the run around on a refund. like offering to give me under $200 back. afterpaying $800.00 cash & owe care credit card $1500.00.do they really think im that ***? im tired of being past to one person and back to another. then i get a letter from patient services supervisor. telling me i need to talk with office manager. but when i do its the same thing .you needa adjustment but dentist says he cant do anything about the cap in teeth on the partials. they made them and its my second pair between 2 aspen dental offices that cant seem to make partials to fit my mouth. in that case i feel they did not perform work that was paid for so why cant i get a refund? so i can find a better dentist to fix my mouth.is there a owner of this corporation or just managers that cant seem to get together on this problem. refund me and ill go to another dental office that has nothing to do with aspen dental.

Billing mistakes
On June 1, 2010, Aspen Dental charged my husband $348.00 for services that our insurance company was to pay because Aspen's computer had wrong info about what our insurance company would pay. I called Aspen immediately and they verified everything I said that was suppose to be covered was correct since they called our insurance company. At that point, they would not cancel the charge. Instead they submitted a new claim to our insurance company and the insurance paid them $200.00 nine days later. It has been 7 weeks and Aspen Dental still has not re-imbursed us our $200.00 credit. Every time I call them, they are very lax about the whole situation. Needless to say, we won't be going there again. Time for a new dentist.

Class Action Lawsuit against Aspen Dental
CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST ASPEN DENTAL FORMING
Within the first 3 days of posting the notice alerting consumers about the formation of a class action lawsuit against Aspen Dental, there has been an overwhelming response from angry patients wishing to participate in this action.
To answer the question posed by many frustrated patients – YES, Aspen has designed its patient service department to effectively diffuse your isolated complaints; this is why you will never successfully receive any justice from Aspen Dental when presented as an individual complaint. But, Aspen cannot evade and will be held accountable to the thousands of angry patients who are collectively unified under this large and comprehensive Class Action Lawsuit.
With the high volume of feedback and interest in participating in this Class Action Lawsuit, we are requesting that in your email you identify your complaint as being in one of the three following categories:
1.DENTAL MALPRACTICE – In which you have been physically injured by their dental “care.”
2.CONSUMER FRAUD – Includes cases in which office personnel of Aspen Dental used high pressure sales tactics designed to take your money with false promises of providing competent dental health care.
3.Combination of Malpractice and Consumer Fraud.
To respond to one of the most frequently asked questions: Yes, you can remain anonymous!
When you email the description of your complaint for inclusion in this action, simply request that we assign you a confidential identity.
As a new patient, a reasonable person would not expect Aspen Dental to take unfair advantage of a dental problem – after all, they are considered to be a healthcare facility; however, when you sit down with the Office Manager to discuss your dental treatment plan it becomes clear that your money, not your health, is Aspen's primary objective. The job of the Aspen office manager is to force you into accepting the most costly and extensive dental work possible. This is termed “conversion” and is against the law.
To respond to another frequently asked question - Yes, Aspen Dental rewards its employees with financial bonus incentives for exceeding monthly production goals. This bonus system is based upon Aspen's internal use of “metrics” which pressures each office to compete against other Aspen offices. Unfortunately, since Aspen’s Management Team is composed of individuals whose background is in “consumer retail” – not in healthcare - they operate the dental care facility as a retail business in which you are not viewed as a patient - instead, you are simply a paying customer. Aspen Dental’s motto is: “To create a happy, paying patient.” But, unfortunately once you pay, you quickly discover that you are not happy.
This Class Action Lawsuit will effectively make Aspen Dental accountable for their acts through the unified and coherent voice of thousands of patients who have been wrongfully injured by Aspen Dental.
This Class Action Lawsuit will channel thousands of patient complaints into a collectively powerful force which will finally stop Aspen. Your participation in this Class Action Lawsuit will not cost you any money - the legal services are free to you. And, you may be entitled to receive money as compensation for your loss and suffering.

Poor Customer Focus
I had 3 appointments set up for a "deep cleaning, " then a regular cleaning and tooth extraction, and cavities. I went for the deep cleaning, couldn't keep the appointment for the tooth extraction, and they told me it could all be done on the day I was getting fillings.
When I came in for my appointment, I was told they would not be doing my extraction due to "staffing levels" and that the extraction wasn't on the schedule for what was supposed to be done. This was despite my Saturday appointment being bumped half an hour sooner previously SO this could be done all at once.
After my teeth cleaning, they filled ONE cavity, and whoever was doing it, I hope to God he wasn't a student, jammed something in my mouth the wrong way and it slipped off. Luckily it didn't hit anything in my mouth but sure made me flinch.
Whomever was holding the suction vacuum pretty much sucked my tongue out of my mouth, but didn't even get all of the filling material out as I had to stop them halfway through the procedure to pull a piece of it out of my mouth or I was going to gag.
Upset I wasn't getting my tooth pulled, I had to reschedule my appointment on their next Saturday they had open (yeah, they're open ONE Saturday a month, one day late a week). I guess its too hard for them to understand that people like me have to work a full time job and cannot just take off days of work to have a tooth pulled. Anyway, their Saturdays apparently don't become available until a certain "time" and I guess I got lucky! However, she seemed unsure to schedule me because the dentist that day WANTED TO KEEP A LIGHT SCHEDULE!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? I am the customer and you say that right in front of me! I was very offended by that, and probably won't even go back. I will say that the oral hygenist there was the nicest person out of all of them, but I don't care for the office manager.
STAY AWAY!!! Especially if you have a regular 9 to 5 job they certainly don't do enough to cater to their working clientele.
